The Press is a classy and cozy café in historic downtown Panama City. While maintaining a spacious atmosphere, you still get an intimate and comfortable environment indicative of the café experience. My first visit, I tried the seasonal Maple Cinnamon Latte. The maple was just a sweet note at the end with the cinnamon being the real star of the drink. I love The Pour's Teddy Roosevelt Latte which is another cinnamon style latte and The Press' Maple Cinnamon Latte is a good comparison. I came back the next day to try the Mocha Macadamia Nut Undertow, a delicious caffeinated experience everyone should try! Undertows feature bitter and warm espresso on top, followed by creamy half and half, finished with the sweet syrup at the bottom. A great shot-style beverage to wake you up and get your day going, definitely not meant to be sat with and sipped at. I am excited to find a reason to come back and sit inside to work in the near future. The space really is inviting. I would like to try their bakery goods. On my second visit, my partner and I got an Apple and Brie crepe and a Breakfast crepe featuring bacon, eggs, cheese, sausage, and potatoes. My crepe had the rind still on the brie and the skin still on the caramelized apples. The crepe itself was rather tough so cutting through and eating the crepe was not exactly an amazing experience. My partner said that his breakfast crepe was just ok, so really not a place to go if you're looking for great crepes; there are other places in Bay County that make crepes a true experience. Finally, I cannot appreciate enough how inviting the atmosphere of this café is. The color scheme, the nick knacks, the set up, and the bar area are all really lovely. The design aesthetic at The Press was really well thought out and a nice contrast to some of the more chaotically decorated stores in downtown Panama City. I will be visiting again soon, I'm certain. The Press is doing a lot of things right and the areas for improvement are easily overlooked for decently priced, delicious...
Read moreWe went to this wonderful quaint little coffee shop on Harrison in downtown Panama City a couple of days ago. It is small so seating is minimal. It is a very clean shop which smells like coffee heaven when you walk in the door. I got a Nutty Irishman pour over coffee that was a rich and smooth blend of Irish Cream and Hazelnut. My Apples and Brie Crepe was cinnamony and delicious. My husband got a Bourbon Caramel Latte that alas had no real bourbon in it but it was very good he said. He got a Breakfast Crepe that was filled with eggs, hashbrowns, bacon and cheese which he enjoyed but he really wanted the Apples and Brie after tasting mine. He went back the next day with a friend and got the Apples and Brie Crepe. There is a lot of merchandise like candles and ground coffees along the walls. We bought some of the Nutty Irishman grounds for coffee at home later. Reasonably priced and family friendly atmosphere make this a good addition to the downtown establishments revitalizing Harrison Avenue. We will obviously be adding this to our list of places for good coffee and plan to get the charcuterie...
Read moreTypically, the service here is wonderful. They have their issues with technology and scheduling new workers that aren't fully trained during the morning rush. But all in all, I am usually pleased with the service.
This morning, however, my wife and I placed our order (a tea and a latte) with maybe 2 other orders in front of us. About 5 minutes later, a lady walks in, and stands at the register for a few minutes. A guy walks from the back, takes her order (4 drinks) while on the phone with tech to fix the Clover register issue, then proceeds to make her order ahead of the 3 or so orders already taken.
All 4 of her drinks were made and she was out the door before our order was finished...even before the other people ahead of us were served. The guy even apologized for her wait. What wait? She was served before everyone ahead of her. Total time waiting for our 2 drinks was around 20 minutes and no apology for the wait and poor service.
Like I said, service at The Press is typically good - a little slow, but mostly above average. My hope is they can fix their customer service and...
