We were staying at the Rio and The Empire Strips Back (also great, also at the Rio) got done about 9p. My wife and l were hungry but didn't want to leave the hotel and didn't want anything from Canteen Hall. We walked by Luckleys earlier in the day and saw they were open until 10p, so we thought we would give it a shot. We were not disappointed at all. Everything was great. Chevian, our server was attentive and funny. He answered our questions and gave suggestions. My wife wasn't as hungry as l was so she got the appetizer of meatballs and some onion rings. I tried both and they were really good. I ordered the $45 prime rib special. It's a 3 course meal for $45. You get a Caesar Salad to start and the croutons were somehow crunchy but lighter than any other crouton with great flavor. Then came the main event. The prime rib with creamy mashed potatoes. This was pretty great. I've had plenty of prime rib from other places and this was by far the best. And the potatoes were creamy but not thin and tasted great. We were done with the meal and then the waiter asked if we were ready for the best part of the meal. I don't know how dessert could have been better than the main course, but l was intrigued. The choices were 3 flavored ice cream (which l believe he said we're vanilla, mango, and coconut) or the banana pudding. My choice was simple. I went with the banana pudding. This wasn't just a regular banana pudding you make out of a box and throw a couple of nilla wafers on top. This had real bananas in it with a light and fluffy banana bread at the bottom. The waiter wasn't lying when he said it was the best part of the meal. The whole meal was great. I would definitely go back and probably order the same thing because it was so good. If there was anything l would change it would be that the music was a little loud, to the point that sometimes we had a hard time hearing the server. But that is such a minor thing. The meal itself will be remembered and talked about for years to come and any prime rib l eat from now on will be compared...
Read moreThis would be my first visit to the Rio in many years and I wasn’t sure what to expect. Upon entering the Rio’s main entrance, I easily found Luckley Tavern and Grill. Three in my party started at the bar, which has a very accessible craft cocktail menu. I had a cable car. Friendly bar staff made us feel very welcome while we waited for the rest of our group to arrive. The walls of the restaurant are covered in some pretty cool rock ‘n’ roll concert memorabilia and posters with lots of fun Easter eggs if you’re looking for them ;) eventually, our entire group was seated-eight of us in total. One subtle thing that I noticed was the gradual transition from afternoon lighting vibe into a more evening nightlife, lighting, color scheme. The mood was very cool. My favorite menu items were the kale salad, the sliders-which were absolutely the best sliders I’ve ever had. I was so impressed. I had to ask about the meat they used and they gave me the breakdown of their proprietary meat grind blend. The tuna tostada was like nothing I’ve ever had- thin sliced tuna on a subtle cracker tostada type substrate. The star of our meal was the tomahawk steak, which came sliced and was incredibly satisfying and was actually enough food after our multiple rounds of starters. I’m not sure if it is the name having “luck” in it or the rock ‘n’ roll ties but this place kind of reminded me of Mr. Luckys in the old hard rock hotel back in the day. A very unpretentious dining experience with really good food would definitely. I would go out of my way to eat at...
Read moreI hadn’t been to the Rio in ages, so when some friends invited us to dine at Luckley, I didn’t know what to expect. Though the casino seemed to be under construction, we soon stumbled upon this beautiful restaurant with tastefully done rock ‘n’ roll decor. The ambiance alone got me excited to see what the food would be like—and it did not disappoint.
We started with several appetizers, and the big standouts were the chicken wings. As a huge chicken wing fan, I was thrilled—they were perfectly done with the ideal buffalo sauce, so delicious I could’ve easily had two more orders. I didn’t expect to love the sliders as much as I did, but the beef was juicy and flavorful. Another highlight was the shrimp cocktail, with a cocktail sauce perfectly balanced with horseradish.
When the entrees arrived, the steak was my favorite. Cooked to a perfect medium-rare, it was accompanied by mushrooms that were just right. We also had scallops, pasta, and a few other dishes but by then, I was starting to get full and could only try bites of each. Everything was excellent!
My big takeaway: Luckley nails the classics without overcomplicating them. There’s something here for everyone.
I had a great time, service was outstanding from beginning to end. I’ll definitely...
