The alley gets 3 stars. It is old, the people working there aren't the friendliest, and the entire place smells like smoke. That being said, the shoes seem new and the lanes and tables are in good condition.
The rest of my review here is for the Better Off Bowling social league that plays at Gold Coast. Given their wide-spread marketing campaign but few places to leave reviews for the league I feel it's appropriate to share my experience here, too.
Better off Bowling is a a disorganized misleading disappointment. Save your money. I would give Better Off Bowling zero stars if I could.
I am a veteran of multiple social sports leagues across different states and I can say Better Off Bowling is the most disorganized and poorly run league I have ever belonged to.
Free agents are required to find their own team amongst 20+ half-full teams. This was a first for me, usually leagues place free agents on teams that need people, or are "free agent friendly".
The social aspect is a joke. You may have an opportunity to "play trivia" (aka fill out a sheet of paper with questions) with the "opposing" team. This requires the weekly host to remember to bring the trivia questions.
The bar isn't aware of the promised drink specials and the "bar games" are games someone brought, Jenga and the like. There are not traditional social sports bar games such as flip cup, beer pong, and the like. This may be because people don't really go to the bar after (it is a bar that people can smoke in, which is a turn-off).
There are no theme nights, no parties, nothing that other social leagues do. Based on older reviews maybe they used to have these events but they don't anymore.
Finally, there is no accountability at the league. I showed up a few minutes early (as usual) for a game that started 30 minutes later than usual (which was communicated on the schedule and via email) only to find out that the 10 minute warm-up was over.
When discussing with the on-site league rep she had no idea that the start time had moved and wanted to see my email from the league with the reminder time..
She started texting league officials to find out what to do stating the bowling alley started the practice and it wasn't her fault. The final straw was her telling me that this mix-up wasn't the fault of the league, it was the fault of the alley. Zero accountability or apologize. I don't blame the rep, she was set-up to fail by the league.
This league claims to be the "worlds biggest social bowling league" to give the impression they have clout and experience and also a "small business" to doge responsibility and accountability.
I can not in good faith recommend anyone spend money on this league. I wasn't expecting much but this was beyond anything I could...
Read moreIf I could give this place 0 Stars I would my family and I went yesterday to try to do some bowling and we stood in front of the cash register for approximately 45 minutes a gentleman by the name of Josh was trying to help us but since he was new he didn't know how to enter the special on the system so there was an old woman by the name of Frank who refused to help him and I feel that she was being racist. Why do I say that? Well she was helping everybody else but once we came to the line she completely ignored us then when we were helped by Josh she went on to help the rest of the customers. Josh didn't know how to proceed with the order and all she told him was to call a Susan she wouldn't give him the number and he didn't know it when she finally grab the number from an office she gave it to him he was able to call her as he was calling her she took the phone from him abruptly and started whispering on the telephone to this woman. Even after this she didn't assist Josh the poor guy was very embarrassed and kept apologizing he was very kind and was really trying to help us. As to the old lady as we were walking out because we couldnt stand this any longer, she just told Josh help the next customer. It is because of people like this that places loose customers especially when it comes down to casinos my family and I are Latinos and we have never had this happen anywhere else where we've ever been to. I hope that this woman gets replaced because she definitely does not want to be there. Also when we asked her for her supervisors name she said she didn't have a supervisor when my sister asked her again what's your supervisor's name she said I'm the supervisor finally she told us her Supervisor was Lewis and he was not available to speak to. That's why people like us end up replacing...
