I finally had a chance to visit Pasadena Sandwich Company with my friend after hearing a lot of buzz about it. And like everybody says, the sandwiches are humongous, but worth the price. You're able to order at the counter for to-go orders, or you can sit down at a table to have your order be taken.
The storefront is quite small with a few tables at the main entrance as well as a few more around the side. But because people pretty much eat and then leave, you won't have to wait too long for a table. There's a small lot in the back for parking, but there is also residential parking close to the restaurant. I really like the atmosphere of the restaurant. Everybody is super nice and seem really relaxed and happy. That in turn makes you, the customer, feel just as relaxed and excited to eat the food. There's also a very homey vibe to the restaurant.
My friend and I decided to split Trust the Cook ($12). Basically it's whatever the cook is feeling like making for you that day. All you know for sure is that the sandwich will be enormous. I'm not sure if we had to pay extra to split the sandwich, but we did request to have them split the side order into one of the potato salad and macaroni salad. The sandwich came with a pickle, pepper, some fruit, and we also received some chocolate kisses.
I don't exactly know what was in there, but I do know that it tasted good. There were more than 3 different meats, more than 2 types of cheese, tomatoes ... it was a good combination. I also really liked the potato salad, which is their most popular side. The macaroni salad didn't have very good flavor in my opinion. I could barely finish half of my sandwich, so I would definitely say this place has good leftovers for dinner since they only open until about 3.
One other unique thing about PSC is that they have a ton of different and unique sauces on the side for you to try. I think there was cranberry mustard, Sriracha mustard - we tried almost everything! It made the sandwich eating experience much more fun.
Definitely will be back to try out more sandwiches, but I will always bring somebody with me...
Read moreAbove the counter here, there is a plaque dating from March 2015 congratulating Pasadena Sandwich Company on 20 years of operation. So I guess they have added another 10 years to that, making it 30 years. I am not surprised -- at the shop’s longevity, I mean. The quality of the food here, not to mention the friendly staff certainly merit a 30 year run in Pasadena. This was my first visit and I did not know what to expect, but I looked at their menu online prior to the visit and saw that they served genuine Reuben sandwiches. So that's what I ordered. My sandwich arrived on gently toasted delicious rye bread with corned beef mounded high on the bread, Swiss Cheese, sauerkraut, plus mustard and horseradish per my preference for this classic. Sorry folks, I just can’t hack Russian Dressing on anything, particularly an innocent sandwich.
Alongside there was a pickle spear, the way it should be. I also picked up a bag of chips to gnaw on with my sammich. Sadly the only thing missing was a cold Pilsner beer.to wash it down.
Oh, what a lovely sandwich it was: juicy, flavorful, redolent with pungent sauerkraut and mustard.. I have not had such a splendid Reuben in years.
While he was preparing my order, the friendly fellow behind the counter asked if I like spicy stuff (I had asked for spicy mustard and horseradish.) “Yes,” I replied, “Love it.”
“Well I have some Ghost Pepper cheese here, I’ll put a slice on your plate so you can try it.”
Wow! This place just vibrates on another frequency compared to what I am used to. The sandwich was huge, everything about it spoke care into the universe and I knew the minute I tasted it I would be...
Read moreThis is a small sandwich shop located in East Pasadena. It's quite a drive from the office, but my coworkers often insist that it is the best deli sandwich that you can get around here. Yeah, it's pretty good AND filling.
The layout is confusing at first. There's an inside and an outside-ish section. Outside-ish being in a corridor between 2 buildings, but it's still covered from the elements. Both sections are fully serviced by waiters but seating is not exactly strict either. Sit at a table or be assigned a table, and you'll eventually get service from one of the friendly waiters here.
-=-The Chicago on Onion Roll-=- This sandwich is where it's at. The amount of meat that they stuff in this sandwich is ridiculous. I decided on the Chicago since I was undecided between the corned beef and pastrami, so why not get both. I'm not a fan of rye, so I switched it out for the onion roll. Regardless, this entire sandwich will be consumed by the meats. Even the swiss cheese mattered less. This hulking sandwich will have you yelling mercy about halfway through.
-=-PSC "Philly"-=- I was feeling like a hot sandwich so I tried this today. I wasn't feeling it. Yes, they put "Philly" in quotes to designate that it's not really a Philly, but in order to even claim it there needs to be ooey gooey melted cheese dominating over the beef. This sandwich didn't quite have that. The PSC "Philly" did adhere to the tons-of-meat requirement though. PSC is still the king of deli sandwiches, so stick to one of those if this is your...
