The general manager Mike has been incredibly helpful. This is the third gym I have visited and yes, some of the machines are a little bit old but do you seriously need the newest and fanciest machine to work out? ;)
What impressed me the most is how passionate, generous, and professional Mike is. I didn't have to play bargaining games like I had to in other gyms to get a good deal - Mike gave me the best deal he could offer (I know this because the other LA fitness gym totally tried to rip me off it was was embarrassingly insulting!) and he gave my family plan a lot of flexibility to fit our schedules and potential lifestyle changes. During my initial visit 3 people (who are current gym members) stopped by Mike's desk, said hello, and wanted to add more members from their family to their current plans - that meant a lot to me because if the current members are happy, I know I'm in good hands.
I also had to freeze one of the accounts in my family plan a week after I signed up and it was super quick and easy when I talked to Mike about it - he immediately froze the account without trying to convince me otherwise or making me feel like I had to explain my decision - I feel respected and this is sadly very rare to see because somehow, a lot of businesses just seem to only care about one's wallet nowadays (but hey thankfully Mike's LA fitness wasn't one of them!)
Mike also kindly recommended a personal trainer director at a different LA fitness location for my in-laws because this director spoke Chinese and I know my in-laws would feel much more welcomed and comfortable when they discuss their exercise plans in their native language. And not surprisingly, a few days after I signed up, my father-in-law received a call from the Chinese trainer and they are very excited to begin their exercises soon - if it wasn't for Mike I would never have thought about this small but important detail. Mike's thoughtfulness and kindness truly made a difference. :)
I have also read some of the reviews with lower ratings about this gym and I feel it's only fair to mention that most of them took place before Mike became the manager - he was actually hired to bring this gym back to life and in my opinion he is doing a fantastic job. They are also getting a lot of new machines and doing remodeling of the facility very very soon - so if that's your concern, rest assured that they won't be for long.
It was extremely important for me to know that the people I'm dealing with are honest, hardworking, and passionate about their jobs - and Mike is all three of those. I am much much happier coming to this gym knowing that I will be treated respectfully and fairly, than going to a fancier gym but wondering if my wallet would receive more attention than me myself.
Thank you Mike and your wonderful...
Read moreFirst of all, you need to know that all of the five star reviews you see after my review is because a previous sales manager named Mike asked a number of regulars to post positive reviews. Mike is no longer working at this gym. You'll notice that all of these reviews occurred around the same time. How do I know this? Because Mike asked me to post a positive review as well, so I did. I'm retracting that review as of right now. I'm not real happy with those who manage this club right now. And I'm not talking about the people who actually work in this club. I'm talking about upper management. I started going to this club a year and a half for two reasons:
The new facility is awesome. I’ve been a member since 2010, and frequented nearly all the clubs around metro Atlanta. With that said, this is the first time I’ve felt racially profiled.
I’m an African American male, and I use the facility to shave at times. I never leave a mess nor have I ever had anyone to tell me to clean up behind myself. On this day (3/13) I’m shaving as usual. The Hispanic janitor walks past me on more than one occasion and says nothing. The big boss ( as I found out later ) walks by me as well and says nothing. A few minutes later, the janitor come in with the big boss peering over his shoulder and tells me to “make sure I clean up my mess” as if I’m not a 36 year adult that happens to manage a national automobile repair chair (that’s of little consequence but it shows I do at least have some comprehension of facility maintenance as well as managing people).
I finish shaving and clean up my area as always and I approach the janitor to ask him why out would he approach me to ensure I clean up my mess and I’ve never seen him approach the countless other Caucasians whom shave on a daily basis, and his answer was a mix of Spanish mumble incoherent rhetoric. He couldn’t give a straight answer. I’ve seen him countless times at the old facility never utter a word to others yet, conveniently now you want to overlook me as if I’m an adolescent. It wasn’t his fault I’m sure. It was the leering boss that if he felt I was doing something inappropriate, should have spoken to me upon his initial noticing. Yes I have facial hair and I shave with clippers as opposed to a razor, but isn’t that what the outlets in the bathroom are for? Mind you when I left there was a Caucasian male with an array of beauty and hair product around the sink doing the exact same thing I was. I wonder if both the manager doubled back to ensure he cleaned his mess up?
Again, in 8 years I’ve never been approached about my shaving or a mess in ANY of their facilities. Just food...
