Tangerine soft serve ice cream was (and I don’t mean to be dramatic here) the missing piece of my life. I could share the story of the day that led to my first TangerinExperience, but instead I’ve come up with further reasons to enjoy this delicacy and would like to share them with you. Here, then, is an incomplete list of occasions that deserve Tangerine Soft Serve from Jimmie’s Dairy Bar: - The Sunday Scaries - Weather is too hot - Weather is too cold - Weather is perfect - Just got paid - Ten minutes after getting paid and bank account has $8 balance - Feeling a little sick - Feeling great - You need a Dole Whip but are actually quite far from a Disney park Celebrations, such as: - Second cousin’s half birthday - Boss is on vacation - Sneezed to completion when you had a nose tickle and thought you were only gonna get halfway through the sneeze and then get left hanging What you need to know: - Pictured is a “large” Tangerine Soft Serve in a cup. This is the smallest acceptable size if you love yourself. I did have a lil taste before taking this picture, my apologies. - Drive through is faster than you expect, even if you order food. - They do take Visa & Mastercard, though you’ll have to order at least two Tangerine Soft Serves to get to the $5 minimum. This is not a problem, and you don’t even need to pretend that you’re taking the other one to someone who isn’t with you. You’re allowed to get as much as you want, just for yourself. - The building is painted with a tangerine orange accent color and I appreciate the continuity of the theme, giving me the full Tangerine Experience. In addition to Tangerine Soft Serve, there is a larger menu. I suggest reviewing this in advance, the menu at the drive through is not comprehensive and you’ll be in a full panic to order. ProTip: obsessively practice saying your order in your head and out loud numerous times as you approach the drive through. I’ve had the tenderloin and the chicken sandwich. Visually these are identical so pay attention when you receive your food. They were on toasted buns but they were otherwise barren so you might ask for condiments if you require such things. I don’t care to dirty up my fried food with fresh vegetables but you do you. Making your sandwich a platter will add fries and your choice of slaw OR baked beans. Again, review this in advance as it’s not a decision to be taken lightly. The slaw complements a fully deep fried meal with a satisfyingly sweet and tangy crunch, while the beans are presented in a rather soupy format with sauce to spare for your sandwich. I think next time I’ll try the BBQ sandwich with slaw - the sign out front said it’s the best BBQ in Indiana, and though that seems very ambitious one does have to trust Jimmie as he hasn’t let me down so far. Wherever you’re coming from, this is worth the drive to enjoy a delicious piece of history in beautiful Pendleton. Grab some food and head to nearby Falls Park for the picnic you’ve been dreaming of, or just shovel it all in your face on your way home. However you choose to enjoy it, you’ll be glad you did.

Second visit here. Didn't really enjoy first time so wanted to give them a chance since they are a locally, well established business. This time...did drive thru. 4 normal orders. Had us pull up. After twenty minutes, nothing. Walked up to window. Order had been ready but woman said she was too busy to walk it out. My double steakburger was just two patties of their cheeseburger (which two others got). Other food was fine, but nothing special. Went back up to get ice cream...for cost, portions are too small. We had ordered an extra cup but woman wouldn't give it to us. Said we needed to pay for it....which we already had. Had to verify with woman who took order. This business nickel and dimes you for everything. Even charged 5% each time to pay with a credit card as a surcharge. Time to catch up with the times or move on. You had a good run, just ended several years back.

Not our favorite drive in ice cream stand. We tried a cheeseburger, Coney dog, hot dog, fried mushrooms, and onion rings. Ever6one liked the coney and hot dog. The cheeseburger was ok. The fried mushrooms were excellent. But the onion rings were bland. We also tried the famous marshmallow coke, but no one thought it was great. For ice cream, we tried the tangerine, the vanilla with brunch, and a scoop of cookie dough. Vanilla and cookie dough were enjoyed by the kids. The tangerine was really good, but we had wished the tangerine flavor were stronger. They seem to use a vanilla base and it tastes more like a creamsicle than tangerine. Still tasty though.

Not impressed. This place seems to be a big hit for the locals who don't know any better? ...I guess. We were passing through Pendleton Indiana we thought we might try Jimmie's Dairy Bar. We support local businesses across the country and are fairly anti Big Box. We do this with the thought in mind that we dont mind paying higher prices for quality meals which support community/small business. I was in the mood for a sundae and ordered a large with butterscotch topping. My hubs ordered a tenderloin and fries. The services was outstanding and all of the staff very "small town friendly" --in that cute Indiana small town sort of way. We even enjoyed the chatter of excited children enjoying icecream cones after a sweet baseball win behind us. The food: sadly, it was nothing to write home about. The sundae was ordinary bland softserve (I did ask for a handdipped sundae I dont believe they offer this) with runny Smuckers-like topping on the sundae. Which was double the cost of a McDonalds small sundae with even less icecream :( The tenderloin came out so fast it was likely microwaved. The hubs said it was the worst tenderloin he'd ever had. He didnt finish it. Guess we should have tried the BBQ other reviews...
