Ten years ago Pensacola had two good pizzerias: Sky’s and Tuscan Oven. Neapolitan style had not yet arrived to the area. That changed with the opening of Angelena’s and Pizzalute in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Both joined the national movement of new style Neapolitan popularized by Roberto Caporuscio at Keste and Chris Bianco at his Phoenix pizzeria, and to a lesser extent, Roberta’s in Bushwick.
Lucky Dough has crashed on the scene with the best Neapolitan pizza between Houston and Jacksonville. Everything about Lucky Dough is world class.
Very few pizzas are bad, but we often are caught in a cycle of settling for average pizza. These pizzas fill the stomach, and they taste plenty good. But when you’ve had excellent pizza, truly excellent, it tastes so different from greasy, average pizzas that it makes you question why you’ve ever settled.
Lucky Dough uses outstanding ingredients. And when you start with the good and follow it with good technique, from proofing to spinning in the oven, you end up with an excellent product.
We had both the marinara and the Margarita. The former was good, but the latter was outstanding. It was among the twenty best Neapolitan pizzas I’ve tried in the States.
It will be interesting to see if Pensacola supports a high end pizzeria such as Lucky Dough. Quality does not come cheaply, with the above priced at $20 and $24 before tax and tip, making it as expensive as any Neapolitan pizzeria in America (compare the Margarita at Bar del Corso at $21, Don Antonio at $17, and $21 at Antico in Atlanta), but Lucky Dough’s quality is just as high, and honestly, better than those pizzerias. I hope it does. I’ll enjoy it for as...
Read moreAbsolutely incredible pie!! I am suppose to be Gluten Free and most options are not so happy....then Lucky Dough came along of course it isn't Gluten free but let me tell u, he imports all his ingredients, and I haven't had one reaction... think I am 5 pies in now ..they are all incredible!! They aren't gluten free, but maybe the quality of the ingredients made the difference...I didn't even itch!! Alot of times healthy means sacrificing something, but honestly I feel like I am being bad because it is absolutely delicious..and that crust is incredible the perfect amount of chewy and crispy all wrapped up in perfection. We love the Queen Margot, and Prosciutto....and the basil leaves, you can tell it is freshly picked....dang it man I am going to have to eat another....I am not sure how good it is for my waistline, but my soul is singing songs to heaven!! So thankful to Lucky Dough!! I can finally enjoy my favorite food again....p.s. I would of finished the dough but my dog loves...
Read moreI first met Arpan through a friend who told me about his operation and catered Lucky Dough for an office of mine.
I am Italian, from NY, and was just in Italy last month and this pizza is just about as real as it gets. I ate an entire pie to myself and thought I’d be filled with instant regret but instead found myself filled with energy, and was extremely polished. The ingredients he uses are pure and the most natural you are going to find. After you eat lucky dough your body will be craving more due to the freshness of the ingredients.
For those complaining of them being slow- it’s a brand new shop and they are trying to get on their feet and the service can be a little slow at times, but I promise it is worth the wait and it’s only going to improve as they improve their operations.
Without a doubt the best pizza in Pensacola and probably the best...
