EDIT:
I don’t think that the owner is understanding what my complaint is. I’m trying to say that you guys need to train your staff better. The cooks should have a meat thermometer so they can see if the meat is cooked at all before serving it. Someone is going to get food poisoning if you don’t train them better. The same things for the hostess. Sorry that you took it offensive as the hostess is your daughter. I get that she’s young, but she also needs to be trained better. We even had to seat ourselves, although she was in the front. I get she is young and shy, and that’s fine and completely okay. But maybe there’s another position she’ll be more comfortable with if she’s that uncomfortable with taking to customers at all.
No, I’m not sure how we would know that there was a manager there. I believe you even said that the manager was off for surgery. The waitress was well aware of how upset we were. She never mentioned a manager, and no manager came to check on any of the guests that were there. If food is sent back, I would advise in the future to have a manager check on the guests. It’s just common business practice. Instead of targeting the one waitress, I would make sure ALL of your staff is trained to do this. Especially since we witnessed another table sending food back as well, it wasn’t just us and seemed like it happens a lot based on her reaction.
Sadly, the owner’s response was just as bad as the food.

I really hate to leave bad reviews. But our experience was so bad, you should know about it.
Once we sat down and started looking at the menu, my husband asked me what I wanted to order. He noticed the table next to us was complaint about the burger they ordered. I still ordered the burger (although expensive, just short of $20!). When food came out almost an hour later, I was stunned. I ordered it well done and it was MAYBE rare, if not just uncooked. Bright red meat. Opposite of well done.
When this was brought to the waitress’s attention, you could tell they get complaints often. She said what passed as an apology, and I waited 30-40 minute for my burger again. We had toddlers with us, so it’s irritating to wait technically close to 2 hours for food. They weren’t busy at all, by the way, almost a vacant restaurant.
Food was mediocre at best. The burger I finally got was still not well done. Waitress struggled with basic hospitality. We still paid full price for the restaurant’s mistake. They even brought us the completely wrong tab. Who is running this place?!
I would NOT recommend to anyone. Sad to say. I usually don’t leave reviews and prefer to leave positive ones. Hopefully they get better as the season progresses. Even the hostess didn’t greet or say goodbye — not sure what her job is, then.
We will not...
Read moreGull Landing is surely one of our favorites! Their fish and chicken dishes are amazing! My go to is surely the walleye dinner with squash and cherry butter. So fresh, mild and cooked to perfection! The only downsides I can comment on to date would be the slight disappointment that the indoor seating is not yet available. The biggest disappointing aspect is that they now charge you an additional 3% of your total tab to use a credit or debit card. The worst part is that they don't even tell you before or after the charge. That is completely difficult to overlook considering the average table tab is $75 or more, in our specific instance with ordering for two adults and one child cost $99. The outdoor seating section has been full every time that we've visited. When you consider the price per plate with the average amount of guests, I can't imagine that their credit card service costs are nearly as much as they are charging their customers in total. Credit and debit card use among all Americans is most certainly the most utilized form of payment in today's world. It's a shame that people are being charged extra fees in a society that has the most advanced safe guarded electronic payment methods around. All Local and family owned businesses should be uniform with payment method options that are most efficient and cost friendly in order to continue operating among other successful business platforms. This unfortunate incident has happened to us once so far, we can only hope it was a one time incident that way we can continue to enjoy such a tasteful dish with an excellent service and dining experience for years to...
Read moreSo we walked into The Gull, (as the locals call it) and sat ourselves at the front of the location says to do. After only a few short minutes, we were greeted with someone who we would soon come to love, Eric. Eric was our server for the too-short time we spent there. Eric served us in such a way that can only be described as absolutely amazingly Excellent!
When Eric first arrived to our table he had an amazing comment which was an excellent blend of comedy and honesty; "Thank God someone finally decided to stay in the air conditioning!" This was said in response to The Gull having both inside and outside seating, of which we choose inside when seating ourselves. Though we didn't yet know it, this subtle sentence was exactly what we needed to break the ice with him, allowing further bonding throughout the visit.
While ordering drinks, there was a comical moment wheb the first three of us four all ordered different variations of water, as the tention grew, Eric was also invested to see if our 4th would order the same, and when he did not, Eric, along with the entire table, all erupted with a great deal of laughter and sarcastic disappointment.
These two events are just some short examples of what happened the entirety of our visit to The Gull with Eric. Eric is one of those guys that you can just instantly connect with, simply for being awesome. Eric truly is a one of a kind server, and made my visit to Michigan worth every minute. If ever there was a negative to hanging out with Eric, it would be that all time after leaving the restaurant a little more dull, with no Eric to...
