My wife and I live near the Brown Bear in Pentwater and are regular customers durring the spring through fall months for years. We had a few friends up and the 5 of us went to dinner at the Brown Bear. We had a server who has been there for several years. My wife and I ordered a sandwich to split. When the bills came each paid separately. We placed a $50 dollar bill to cover our bill expecting change. One other person in our party apparently put a $50 dollar bill out for their payment also. The server collected all the bills together at one time. When she returned she told us we were short on our bill that we only gave her a $20. We are certin we gave her a $50 and questioned her about it. She became rude and insisted only one person gave her a $50 and it was not us. Reluctantly we gave her more cash to cover the bill. As we were leaving, walking past the bar where she was standing she made some snide comment as.sge was speaking to another server.

I am just appalled at her treatment of a customer. Perhaps she was having a rough day but her demeanor was not acceptable.

We have been very regular customers but will certinaly rethink our dinner options...

We’ve eaten here a few times in the past. We love the Brown Bear in Shelby. The last time we went here was a week ago and they were busy. We walked in and no one greeted us. In fact they would exit the back and see us and turn around. There was no sign to say wait to be seated or seat yourself. Finally my sister flagged down a server and she asked if we had signed in on the board on the wall. There was a tiny whiteboard on the back wall as you walk in which we missed. Everyone who walked in after us also missed it. We told them where to sign in as they were experiencing the same lack of communication. Our server said very little to us. Basically did we know what we wanted? He spoke with no personable skills at our table or those around us. Our food was delivered promptly but when they rattled off what the dishes were we couldn’t understand what they were even saying they spoke so quickly. We did not feel welcome at all! The food was great as normal and that I believe is the reason people still go there. We’ll still go to the one in Shelby but won’t be back here unless it’s for takeout! Very disappointed in how rude the...

Arrived on a Sunday just after opening, but they had an issue, and note on the door said they had to open late. How late was anyone's guess. A number on the window for carry-out was called, as people were walking around inside, but no one answered and the voice mailbox was full. Doors opened about an hour late, and a full house was waiting outside. Which meant the kitchen got slammed all at once. We were with a larger group, and knew the food would take a little longer. However, it took an hour. Other customers who entered the same time as us, got their food, ate, paid, left, and new tables were done ordering before we got our food, any drink refills, or even acknowledgement from our server. When our food came, it was delicious, as always. Prices are good, here, too. Our server wasn't on top of it, and didn't have even a remotely friendly disposition. That was the end only negative. Other servers' tables were turning over and getting their...

Carrie was our server, we ordered a beer fried pickles, cuban sandwich with onion rings, and the A1 Burger with sweet potato fries. Service was great. Atmosphere was pretty noisy and it wasn’t clear if we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait. Burger was real solid and cooked perfect medium as ordered. The burger bun was SO good. Cuban was okay. Not enough ham, and the pulled pork is mediocre. Not at all a bad sandwich, I’m just picky about my cubanos. Sweet potato fries are thin, almost shoe string style and not super crunchy. Would probably go for the regular fries next time. Onion rings were good. Overall a very solid option if you’re in pentwater and want a tasty dinner. Our tab was about $60 after tip.

Posting the updated menu. Couldn't find one online that was current prices. Fish and chips was awful. Over fried, no fish in-between the batter. I was surprised looking at my mother's plate that they dared serve it like that. Skip the extra charge for the fries, they weren't good either. Burger on the other hand is good. But I think Culver's is better. Texture of the bun was stale here. I ordered onion rings because the burger served next to me had a high pile of big rings. I didn't get as lucky. But they tasted decent compared to other places. Took about an hour to get acknowledged that there was a group waiting at the door and then seated. Must have been a rough night for staff.

We love the Brown Bear! Always get fantastic service and the best burgers on the planet! The "Notorious Bear Burger" is a must try! 1 Pound of the best beef, cooked to your liking, Go hungry, this thing is mammoth! We've tried a few other menu items and desserts, never a disappointment. they also have a good selection of drinks & beers. We love the atmosphere as well, feels like your hanging out in a hunting lodge. like a hidden log cabin in the mountains. Pentwater is a beautiful town and I think the Brown Bear is a big part of that. it's located right in the center of town and within walking distance to the shops, marina & waterfront park!
