My family and I have been going to Pentwater for over 20 years. We of course make our way into HOF at least 3-4 times during the week when we camp here. Tonight my family and I experienced the worst customer service and outright disrespect from this staff. We get done ordering our ice cream and pay for it and my son then asks for sprinkles. I asked the girl if we can get a side of sprinkles and she told me yes but it’s extra. I said no that’s ok since I already paid for the ice cream and didn’t want to charge 30 cents plus their fee for sprinkles. Fast forward to getting our ice cream my son who is only 3 wants sprinkles and so I asked my wife if she had any cash. She pulls out a $1 bill, I walk up to the counter and ask for a side of sprinkles and present the $1 bill to them. The girl goes oh we don’t offer sides. I said but I was just up here and you said it’s extra so I’ll pay for it. Then another girl comes over and says the same thing. No sides. I again start saying I literally just ordered some ice cream for my 3 year old and its sprinkles…they say the same thing so now I’m irritated. I walk back and another lady (manager maybe?) asks what’s going on. I explain. She goes back to talk to the girls and says to me first thing that I had an attitude and now I’m really pissed. I said yes I do now after I offered to pay for sprinkles for my 3 year old son and was denied 3 times. She literally is arguing with me in front of staff and customers (the manager?) over some sprinkles that cost maybe a few cents at most for a 3 year old little boy all while my son is literally crying next to her. It was the most disgusting thing I have seen. I am not one to complain and I own multiple businesses myself that strive on customer service and this was outright awful. That lady should NEVER manage or operate a store. I hope you have cameras and can see this that I was civil until they denied my son who was upset. This is a town full of kids in the summer. Have some courtesy for children. If I saw this from an employee of mine she would be terminated immediately. You don’t treat people, customers, and...
Read moreI go here about four times a summer, and it's always one of my favourites. Pentwater has a bunch of ice cream places (part of being a summer beach destination!) but House of Flavors is wonderful because you can also order different food and sit down indoors! With air conditioning! It's always super busy on the big weekends (4th of July and Homecoming, for sure), but the staff are always as fast as they can be and as smiley as possible under pressure. They deserve more nice things in their life than anybody; imagine having to serve hundreds of crabby tourists a day!
The ice cream flavours are always delicious with a tonne of options, the tiramisu is one of my favourites as well as the age-old mint chocolate chip and moosetracks. I've been eating HoF moosetracks ice cream every summer for the past at-least 17 years (it could be even longer; I honestly don't know if I was eating ice cream before the age of 3) and it's always a-mazing. If you have any kids, they even put lil sugar eyeballs on the ice cream! Make a new ice cream friend! Eat your new ice cream friend before he melts!
Their peach smoothies are absolutely AMAZING. I'd drop everything just to get one of those things. It tastes like they put a literal peach and some ice cream in the cup. Honestly, that's probably what they do, but it tastes so good I can barely describe it accurately. It's so nice. I love it. They also have super cute chalk artwork on the sidewalk outside advertising their things creatively! It's such a sweet little shop and the mirrors on the side of the wall make it seem bigger than it actually is which helps with feeling too crushed when it's busy. No public restrooms, though, which is...
Read moreMe and my boyfriend normally stop in when we come up to get some food and ice cream and when we went today it was an uncomfortable experience. I normally dont leave bad reviews but this experience has been sitting on our minds. When we went in we ended up being the only people in there while we were eating because the other people had left. When we got our food the guy who brought it out looked very young, possibly 12-13 years old, and that doesn’t sit right with me. Then some police came in and we didnt mind that but when they came in the workers started yelling and it made us uncomfortable. I saw a guy and a girl with a fake gun, like a bb gun(?) and the lady cop let one of them shoot her back because she knew them. It made me uncomfortable because i was sitting right behind that cop, and if they had by chance missed it would have hit me. Then a girl took it and was pretending like she was going to shoot the male cop because they knew these cops, but the male cop was sitting behind my boyfriend and if she did do it and missed it would have hit him. Like i said i dont leave bad reviews because i understand food service is not an easy job. but this experience was uncomfortable to us. I will say the girl who gave us a take out tray was super sweet to us and...
