A whirlwind of a visit.
The day before, day of, and the day after visiting Gebby’s was the most whirlwind of times in 2014 for me. This breakfast was on the day before my cousin’s wedding. It was a mad dash to get some grub, set up the VFW for a wedding and also rehearse the wedding. Andy, my cousin, raved so much about Gebby’s that we decided to come here on wishes of the groom.
The interesting thing about Gebby’s is that it’s two restaurants in one building. While that might not be weird on its own, the fact that Gebby’s is the breakfast side of things and Schooner’s is the lunch/dinner side.
After deciding to go to Gebby’s, we got most of the wedding group crammed in a few cars and headed there. Once we got there, we had to wait a few minutes for enough tables to empty so they could push them together for our large group. But, it was a short wait considering there being about 10 of us. The jumbo table was ready for us.
My cousin suggested a few things to try out and I ended up getting their biscuits and gravy with a side eggs and bacon. Due to the sheer amount of food ordered, it did take awhile for it to come out. That is to be expected but the overall wait wasn’t that long at all.
When our waitress set our food down in front of us, I nearly died of laughter. My side of eggs and bacon was arranged in a smiley face. I hadn’t even taken a bite yet and I was already loving this place. It’s little touches like this that let you know that you are in for a treat. I can thankfully say that the food had that touch as well. Each bite had that taste as if grandma made it. I remember wanting a second round but that was out of the question for this wedding group. We had things to do and places to go.
If you are in the Peoria area and are needing some good breakfast during breakfast hours, Gebby’s won’t leave you disappointed… unless you get there too late and only...
Read moreThe first time of coming here a couple weeks ago, great experience. The waitress I had was normally the hostess. The experience I had today, complete opposite experience with a different waitress. I’m not one to complain but I had very terrible service. The waitress was not friendly at all. We drank the whole carafe of coffee n she still hadn’t checked on us. We had to walk up to her to tell her we needed more coffee. This was 45min after we arrived. Two tables that arrived after us got their food before us. The one table was a party of two arrived 5min after us. The other party had 10ppl and arrived 10min after us and our order had already supposedly been turned in before these ppl had their order taken. Her excuse was when the orders are turned in they don’t get done in any particular order in the kitchen. When our food finally arrived 1hr after we got there it was cold and not correct. Waitress was very short with us and rude about everything said. I normally give the benefit of the doubt especially with waitstaff because I know everyone is busy and short staffed. The service provided today was especially terrible and that is the only reason I’m leaving this review. No tip left for...
Read moreFirst time visit for me, but have eaten next door at Schooners many times. My buddy Darryl and I decided to drop in after church services Sunday morning. The place was super crowded, but we were able to get seats at the counter right away. Took a good 45 minutes to finally get our meals, but that was no big deal, since they were overpowered by the surge of customers. I was told later by one of the employees that it's this way every Sunday and Wednesday. This restaurant has been in the community for many years and evidently many people are very well pleased. If you are looking for something fancy you should keep on truck'n. This isn't a fancy steakhouse. Reminded me of the old Raedenes in Creve Coeur which closed years ago. No better neighborhood restaurant than Raedenes was. Anyway I had the biscuits and gravy with one scrambled egg. It was ok but nothing to write home about. My buddy was happy, since all he cares about is a cheeseburger, fries and Mountain Dew. He did like one waitress, since he tipped her 10 dollars and she wasn't even our waitress! I felt great dinning here, but many won't. They have a very steady loyal customer base and God willing it will...
