My wife went to pick up our breakfast on a Sunday. The posted hours say the restaurant opens at 9:00 AM on Sundays. She was there at "opening" time. After trying the door a few times an employee came to say they wouldn't be open until 9:30 or 9:45.
Apparently the owner who carries the cash for the business (which is posted cash only) wasn't there with the money bag. This was an inconvenience not only to the customers who showed up at the posted time, but also the employees. Then, while inside the restaurant my wife witnessed someone who didn't have cash pay with a card. I understand not wanting to pay fees, but this seems disingenuous.
The food was good, but I for one am turned off by the lack of respect in opening late. There was no apology offered tor the incident. People have lives and schedules. Maybe the business should post, "We open when we feel like it" as their hours.
As a business owner since 2007 I would have apologized profusely and offered some free extras for the inconvenience. That may appease the customers, but still doesn't rectify the issue wirh the employees.
Hopefully this review will be heard and the owners can use it to better...

Pros: Home made food! I CAN'T EXPRESS THAT ENOUGH. I got the California Burrito, Carne Asada Fries and the 5 Rolled Beef Tacos. The meat is not fatty and cheap like at other Bertos' locations. Deliciously seasoned and spiced. The rolled tacos aren't small microwaveable lookalikes, instead they're sizeable and filling. Their Salsa bar is delightful as well (He wasn't kidding about that red sauce oooowee). Most importantly, above their delicious home made cooking, their prices are outstandingly low and affordable.
Cons: More like minor inconveniences... They do not have a drive through, so yes you'll need to get out of your vehicle and actually go in (oh no). Small hole in the wall, but wasn't busy. Potential for seating to be limited, but not in my experience. Home made cooking, means slightly longer wait time but your patience will be rewarded with delicious food.
10/10 recommend. Try it out. They're not getting the business they deserve!

Read moreI made a spontaneous stop at LA Tacos in Peoria for lunch and ordered the carne asada loaded fries. This dish was a revelation.
The fries were hot, fresh, and crispy, while the carne asada was seasoned to perfection with cumin, garlic, and onions, so tender. The shredded Monterey Jack cheese and sour cream added a creamy texture, while the slightly spicy cheese sauce complemented the dish beautifully. I opted for guacamole and pico de gallo on the side, realizing they could be spicy. They were not but were very flavorful and were clearly made in house. My friend had the Lengua burrito, which was filled with large, tender chunks of beef tongue. She said the flavor reminded her of her childhood.
The restaurant boasted a salsa bar with a variety of heat levels. My portion was so generous that I'll be enjoying the leftovers for dinner. As I brought my fork closer to my mouth, I could smell the smoky aroma of the perfectly seared meat. This hidden gem is definitely worth...
