Been here quite a few times with friends and family but this will probably be the last time. Unless you're dying to see a "hibachi" or rather teppanyaki "show", I would avoid this place. Came for a friend's birthday. She had a reservation, but they refused to seat us unless everyone was physically there. Everyone was already at fallen timbers but were just looking for parking as it's quite difficult to find parking on a Friday night. Hostess tells us that they can try to seat us if we can order for the remaining people but not knowing what others wanted, I mentioned we could try to order drinks for everyone first. Another hostess then came and said actually, you exceeded the grace period of 15 minutes (Looked at my phone and it was at 16 min) and we need to bump you 1h30min outs. Why did the 1st hostess bother asking us then? The last of our party arrived as soon as they told us about being bumped. Tons of other restaurants in the area, we can go somewhere else right? Nope. We were told we will be charged $25 per person or $150 for a party of 6 as part of a "cancelation fee" if we leave. Umm...Excuse me what?! not $25 but $150. For the rest of our party being 17 min late? Claimed we were warned initially when we arrived and through confirmation text. That is a lie. My friend finally saw it in the first email she received about booking and not in any other followup confirmation emails. Talk about fine print. I hate to be that person but I asked to speak to the manager and the hostess said they couldn't reach her. The manager comes rushing shortly after. Technically wasn't my reservation but I was angry for my friend. I've been here in the past and they've made us wait more than 15min with a reservation. Manager offered to seat us within the next 30 min (magically an opening). It was that or be charged $150. Took them 25 min before they took our drink orders and another 15 before they got our food order (which is normal here so not sure why they're so strict with the 15 min rule. We can pick our drinks in less than 5 min). They even messed up the birthday girl's drinks. Poor Birthday girl. The initial experience damper the night and it's her 1st time there too! "Chef" as always is entertaining, and server was nice. One star for the each of them. Food as always is mediocre at best, only if you drown it in yumyum sauce (yikes). The whole interaction before being seated felt like being on an overbooked flight. Don't be fooled by the high ratings. Most likely due to lack of competition in the greater Toledo area. If it wasn't for my friend, I wouldn't have eaten here.
TLDR: Don't come here if you're looking for good food and being treated like a real customer. It's more or less a comedy show where you pay for the "chef's humor" and a joke of...
Read moreWe reserved a table of 10 for my birthday last night. We were seated right away, in the back room. It was extremely hot upon arrival but hoped it would cool down. It definitely did not! Our waitress was visibly sweating, and it didn't take us too long before we were too. She had the entire back room of people to wait on, which was about 30 people. Needless to say, the service was horrible. We waited almost 30 minutes for our drinks from the bar. We didn't put our food order in for almost an hour after being seated. The chef was entertaining and the food was delicious. The waitress apologized for all of the delays and said that the manager offered us free desert, but the manager never actually came over to speak with us herself. Two other staff members gave us 3 deserts for 10 people... The waitress came back about 20 mins later. We told her that we were missing 6 deserts. She ordered them again. We waited another 25 mins, after our bills were all paid and food was packed up, we got the rest of the deserts. There were several things that were not correct on the bills but everyone was hot, and sick of waiting for any type of service, so we just paid the bills. Two of my guests paid with cash and were not offered their change. The waitress did tell us gratuity was not added because of the difficulties we had, to which we all tipped well anyways, but the change that she didn't bring back would have been more than a 30% tip. I have no problem giving the expected 20% but definitely not more than what is expected when service was very disapointing. We then had to wait another 15-20 mins for her to come back so we could ask for the change. She was visibly bothered by the request. We were finally able to to get our change and leave. We left about 9:40 PM. Dinner on a Tuesday night, with a reservation, was over 3 hours long. Upon leaving there were two managers standing at the front, facing the restaurant. Not once did they come back into the room and ask us how we were doing. I never once saw a manager offer to help the overworked waitress, and they didn't even extend a greeting as our large group walked right past them to leave. I chose this place for my birthday dinner because it is usually excellent. The food was still delicious but the service left a lot to be desired, and the managers should have been lending a hand to that poor girl. I felt badly that my guests spent so much money and had to experience an annoyingly long, hot dinner...
Read moreI recently had a terrible experience at Nagoya. I called the restaurant to place my takeout order because I have some food allergies and needed items omitted from my sushi rolls, so I wanted to make sure they were aware of these details. The girl who answered the phone told me I can't place my order over the phone, I must do it online. She was unsure if I could specify online if I needed some ingredients omitted. She was incredibly unhelpful. So I placed my order online at 4pm for a 6:30pm pickup. There was a section that I could add special instructions, so I added instructions regarding my food allergies and asked for this to be omitted from the rolls. I arrived at the restaurant at 6:30 pm, my specified pickup time, and told the hostesses I was there to pick up my order. They seemed confused and just said, "Okay, we'll let them know." Twenty minutes pass, it is now 6:50pm. I ask about my food and I am told it is being prepared. Mind you, this is amidst a pandemic and their waiting room was shoulder-to-shoulder packed with people, some of whom were not wearing masks at all. Which was the whole purpose of placing a takeout order - to avoid this scene. So I waited outside in the cold for my order, which was now approaching 30 minutes past my pickup time. You would think a 6:30pm pickup time means you would receive your food at 6:30pm. Finally, at 7:05pm I received my order. I took it outside to check the bag, because I had a strong feeling it wouldn't be right. Sure enough, my bag was completely missing a roll, and all of the rolls I did receive had the item in them that I am allergic to. I took the food back inside and asked to speak with a manager. I told him the issues of the delay in my order, the missing roll, and the rolls not being made to my specifications. But did I receive an apology of any sort? A "How can I make this right?" Nope. Just the justification of "We're down a sushi chef tonight." He took my bag and had my sushi rolls remade, which took an additional 20 minutes. To top it all off, the food was just okay.
I do not recommend this restaurant and I will never be giving them my...
