We went for an early dinner as first time visitors to Basil. Upon entering, we saw a mostly empty restaurant. The hostess was training someone so it was a bit of a wait and disjointed. When the hostess did greet us she asked if we had a reservation (which we did not) and then said we could sit at the high top bar near the entrance. We politely declined and asked to wait for a standard height table to open. The restaurant had around 10-15 tables sitting empty in the standard dining area so we were confused as to why she would offer us less desirable seating simply because we didn’t have a reservation. The hostess appeared annoyed by this request but then quickly seated us at a standard table. When we were seated, we noticed the plates were coated with water and residue. We asked if we could get different plates and the hostess said it was “just dishwasher water” and we again asked if they could at least bring us something to dry our plates. If I’m dining in a restaurant, the very least we could have is clean and dry dinnerware. She reluctantly took them away and brought out new ones. Our waitress was kind and attentive. They were quick to refill waters and ask if we needed anything during our meal. The service was fast and our food came out very quickly. I ordered the vegan gnocchi and my husband ordered one of the pizzas. The pizza was very good, a little sweet, but the crust was exceptional. Unfortunately, the choice in cheese made portions of the crust soggy but overall still good. My gnocchi had very little of the vegan sausage and was mostly sauce. After I had picked through the gnocchi and sausage bits, there was easily a cup of sauce remaining. I wish there was a better sauce to substance ratio. The cost was reasonable for a dine-in restaurant. I would consider coming back to try something different or maybe even order pizza to go. I’ll note that when we left, there was still ample standard seating available so again I’m confused as to why the hostess was resistant to seating us in the main dining area at our request… despite not having...
Read moreHad dinner with friends six total . Waitress was nice, but clearly must have been new. that's Understandable...Ordered our pizza And I've had firewood pizza from many other places... came out raw in the middle. Once again understandable... said they would make us a new pizza, which was fine, they brought out the original pizza In the meantime and the manager steps in and says here's your old pizza back Half of it fell apart, so we're making you a new one to your standards ??? ......I was thrown back a bit and wanted to say something, but kept my mouth quiet. Coming from an Italian family and having many pizzas cooked in this fashion, it threw me that she had enough audacity To tell my wife we're going to cook you a new one to your standards. Long story again short If you think that firewood pizza should be a bit raw in The middle, then you may want to reconsider. I will say they tried to make it right by Offering us free dessert. I think the thing that upset us the most was. The manager made us feel like our standards on a pizza being cooked properly We're out of line . I normally don't leave such a long review. But I just had to express my frustrations . At the end of the day, if you're looking for a great firewood pizza, I would recommend 5th street pub. I've gone There plenty of times and they've always met our standards which is a properly cooked firewood , I think the manager should have better bed side manners . seemed Snooty... I was not going to mention the fact that one of the waiters dropped A Full glass of water on my wife's lap and once again a no Apology from the manager ... the comment the manager made.... made me feel that maybe I should express how I feel With no apology for spilling water on us to our standards of a raw pizza I felt this was just in leaving . To the owner, I understand the situation of new employees and being short-staffed. But this one here pushed me...
Read moreOur first experience at Basil was 9/4 in the afternoon. We got seating out on the patio, and enjoyed live music by Chris Knopp. We each got a flight of 4 wines - I got all reds and my husband got all whites. When one of my selections wasn't available, the waitress was very knowledgeable and offered a comparable (and in the end, better) option.
The food was fabulous. We shared a muffeletta sandwich, and the small charcuterie board. The sandwich was the best we've had outside of Nola, and the fries were perfect! The selection of cheeses on the charcuterie board were to die for, and included a very spicy cheese that was amazing with the apricot jelly.
The manager was exceeding sweet and comped our desserts because it was our anniversary. We got the chocolate cannoli (pairs amazing with a good red wine), and the salted caramel gelato, which has surprise chocolate caramel bites inside.
We were so in love with this place we came back for brunch the next day! We got there early, so it wasn't very crowded. Again, they had live music, this time inside, that had soft jazz vibe.
We ordered drinks (black hole sun, and strawberry mimosa mule), the monte cristo madame, the stromboli, a side of apple wood bacon, and a bagel with jam. The sandwich was so rich and delicious. The eggs over top were cooked perfectly and the yolk ran down the sides when sliced into. The stromboli was also delicious, the marinara being absolute perfection!
My only complaint from breakfast would be that my bacon was a little chewy, but I didn't specify that I would have preferred crispy so that's on me.
I cannot rave enough about this place! Skip the bigger name places around Perrysburg, and spend your money here. The atmosphere is great, the service is stellar, and the food...
