Once you step into Almyra it feels like you’re transported to Greece. The ambiance is absolutely breathtaking. I ordered the moura cocktail and it came w a mini bottle of champagne. The drink was delicious & CUTE , it felt like I was drinking 2 cocktails mixed in one (the drink was huge and I was set with that all night). We started off w plenty of appetizers and honestly I got stuffed from it that I barely ate my entree. For appetizers we ordered the tuna crudo, crispy rice, duo tartare, crispy potatoes & caviar, shrimp kadaifi, & the saganaki. Let me start off by informing you that my bf & I are sushi lovers so we are familiar with good quality raw sushi (we loveeeeee raw sushi). The tuna crudo was flavorful w a bit of a tangy taste. I’ve tasted crispy rice from many different restaurants and let me tell you this one was the besttt! My bf fav appetizer was the crispy rice! It was the perfect ratio of tuna and crispy rice which I loved the most. The duo tartare was sooooo good I love the combo of the salmon & tuna w avocado at the bottom! The lotus chips topped it off because it added texture due to the crunch. The crispy potatoes & caviar was amazinggggg it was a small portion but the potatoes overpowered the caviar. I was hoping to taste the caviar a bit more. Onto the shrimp kadaifi, it was hugeeeee I love how they added fried vermicelli noodles around it. I’m Cambodian, in our culture we make fried shrimp rolls. The shrimp kadaifi tasted similar but since they wrapped noodles around it, it gave it a different type of texture which I like, the sauce they included almost taste like spicy mayo which wasn’t bad at all. Now onto the sanganaki, the star of the appetizers.. it came out in a pan and the waiter lit it on fire which was really nice! It’s cheese w a nice tangy sweet burnt taste to it. It was addicting to eat!!! At this point, I am full but here comes our entree. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection, it came out w a white sauce which added more flavor and coldness to the plate, the layered potatoes were similar to the ones that used for the caviar which was good. It wasn’t your average potatoe fries. The lobster pasta was average it tasted like spaghetti. Overall, the restaurant exceeded my expectations. Everything was really nice, fast, the decor was beautiful, the cocktail was so good, the appetizers was delicious!!!!!...
Read morehad a deeply disappointing experience at Almyra in southern Philadelphia. On an extremely cold day, I arrived wearing a hoodie and hat for warmth. Despite the small, easily missed dress code sign near the door, I was confronted by an extremely rude security guard. He demanded I remove my warm clothing in the bathroom, showing no consideration for the weather or my comfort. This left me feeling very uncomfortable and unhappy. The staff's lack of empathy and the aggressive enforcement of their dress code, especially given the harsh weather conditions, ruined what should have been an enjoyable dining experience. I felt unwelcome and disrespected as a customer. This treatment is unacceptable for any restaurant, particularly one that claims to offer upscale dining. I cannot recommend this establishment based on their poor customer service and inflexible policies.
Edit: in addition, their rules are not consistently enforced. I saw a table of people with not only hoodies but also jerseys. Not sure how that is consistent with maintaining their “atmosphere”
Second edit: saw two more examples of their policy being violated. Perhaps they need training on how to consistently enforce policies while maintaining a level of customer service that aligns with their pricing structure and apparent branding aspirations.
Third edit: yet another policy violation. The blatant inconsistency in enforcement is rather curious indeed.
Fourth edit: literally can’t make this up. Woman in halter top and cowboy hat sitting at table right behind hostess and in clear view of the rude security guard that originally prompted this review. Also a plastic grocery store soft soap bottle the the bathroom? Really?
Fifth edit: a cursory glance at other reviews indicates that multiple customers over a long period have had positive experiences at this establishment while clearly violating their stated policies. Such selective enforcement is not only problematic from a customer service and business ethics perspective, but also needlessly damaging to the image this business is attempting to maintain. As such, a comprehensive review of internal management practices would be beneficial to this...
Read more"To the Owners of Almyra" I am writing to express my profound disappointment regarding an incident that occurred on Saturday, July 12th during a reservation for my son's 30th birthday. Upon arrival, my son's father was rudely confronted by your security guard, (Dwayne)( who later was laughing and smirking towards me with sarcasm), about wearing a hat, despite being dressed in otherwise appropriate attire (dress khaki pants, button-up shirt). This was particularly frustrating as I had observed another male patron wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and a baseball cap being permitted entry when I was just three weeks prior. Both managers I spoke with (including the one who later called me back) refused to make an exception, even after I explained the special occasion and guest driving 1 hr to come there and the inconsistency in policy enforcement. This rigid and seemingly arbitrary application of your dress code, coupled with the lack of empathy from your staff, completely ruined what was meant to be a Special celebration. The inconsistent enforcement of your dress code, as well as the dismissive attitude of your security and management, is a serious concern. It detracts from your establishment's reputation and customer experience. I strongly urge you to review your policies and provide proper staff training on consistent enforcement and appropriate customer service.
This experience ultimately forced us to find an alternative restaurant the last minute. Happily we found a highly accommodating and welcoming experience at "SPICE FINCH" directly across the street, where the food, drinks, and service were EXCEPTIONAL, and the prices were more reasonable!
I had a follow-up call with one of your managers Megan. Which she wish security wouldn't be the reason for me not to return. However, it wasn't just the security that influenced my decision. You had opportunities to improve the situation and chose not to, which also played a significant role. I hope the owners seriously consider looking into this...
