Asads opened up in West Philly. Being a Black American, I never wanted to try any chicken sandwich, especially since the pandemic when it became clear they were pandering to the Black community with the fried chicken wars. The detrimental state of health in these urban communities is alarming! Despite my reservations, I decided to give it a try this week because they opened a new location in West Philly.
While the decor and service were top-notch, the chicken was appalling. It tasted like low-quality GMO chicken, or worse, like it was made by a 3D printer. The overall thickness was disgusting. There are no healthy items on the menu—no side salad, fruit cup, nothing—just chicken and fries.
To make matters worse, they store the bread in holding containers outside. How is that possible, especially in the heat? I'm tired of every race except Black people selling us fried chicken. It’s disrespectful at this point, and I urge you to think twice before feeding this to your families.
Signed, A sincerely concerned African American
ADDED TO REVIEW 5/24/2024 I appreciate the response. I will say the customer service and communication is something I admire. However, with the menu options provided, I cant help but still feel the same way. I never said the chicken was not complaint to business standards, however I know that there is better quality available. Also, it was just alarming to see someone grabbing bread out of a container outside and throwing it in the back of the Jeep. BOH task should not be seen by the PUBLIC ever. However, I will be willing to remove my review if at least 1 healthy option was added to your menu. I know it might not play into the strategy of your food cost, but it would be a nice gesture to say "I want to provide at least one healthy option since I know a good portion of the urban inner city community will be eating here. That's how you prove your not pandering or taking advantage of...
Read moreAsad's Hot Chicken has definitely been a hot commodity for some time now, so I finally had to go and see what the fuss was all about.
Looking at their menu and photos of their chicken, I knew I was in for something spicy and juicy. I ordered the #2 which comes with two chicken sandwiches (got them hot, although they have two spice levels above that) and fries. I also ordered the loaded fries which can also be ordered at varying spice levels.
Ordering was fairly simple although there wasn't a structured line for new orders and processing orders. The wait time was quite short (less than 10 minutes). But, being that the location is similar to a food stand, there was no seating and we had to take our meal home with us.
When I finally opened our platters, I was extremely pleased with the size portions of our meals, especially for the price. They are absolutely not cheap and give you amazing value for your meal. However, I was a little disappointed in the buns. They didn't feel as fresh and soft as I would like and they were slightly burnt. The good thing is that this didn't take away from the amazing taste of the sandwich itself.
My absolute favorite part of the meal was the loaded fries. Every bite was mouth-watering delicious. There was a point when I thought that the loaded fries was less fries and mainly loaded which is wonderful since most places skimp on the toppings.
I would definitely go again, but perhaps try one of their other sites as the location I went to is at a highly congested intersection in Philly (Cottman...
Read moreI DO NOT UNDERSTAND! It makes me so uneasy to even leave this review because personally I’m not in the habit of highlighting a business’s shortcomings. Usually if im dissatisfied I simply don’t patronize anymore. This time it’s a little different because im truly blown away. My husband and I Love Asads. We were so happy to have one in our area and less than five minutes from our home , how incredible is that? At least I thought. I have a severe pickle allergy and before I place any order it’s quite literally the first thing I let them know, my husband as well. It’s routine because of the severity of my allergy. Every single time I have said NO PICKLES! I get pickles from Asad. EVERYTIME! I truly tried to overlook the mistake because and continue visiting them as I really want to enjoy the food. This is my fourth order from this restaurant. My husband ordered the 2 slider meal for me and as always made sure to include NO PICKLES! Imagine me excited and ready to take a bite and something said, “just check” PICKLES!!! On both sliders!!! YOUVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!! Four times I’ve given this place a chance. Four times we’ve spent our money here and all four times I could not eat my food! I’ve never been so disappointed. The clear lack of consideration for the customers that patronize your business is unreal. It’s...
