Brown Street Coffee is my favorite cafe in the city, hands down thumbs up. Like many Philadelphians, I would frequent many cafes, sometimes going to multiple in a single day. Now, my heart belongs ONLY to Brown Street. Jokes aside, Brown Street has a lot to offer. It's not just their perfect cup of coffee or my recent order of a hot oatmilk latte, it's the fact that each cup is consistent & always delicious. Further, their pastries are all delicious, but nothing beats their Apricot Galette which i dream about & look forward to eating on many weekends. Seriously, it' so good--definitely try it. In addition, they may have the best Banh Mi in the city (the only rival would be Fu-Wah mini mart in Wes, which IS NOT a cafe!!) the atmosphere is the ideal place to (1) enjoy nature outside while drinking their yums bc in the summer you can greet dogs passing by or watch butterflies, birds, & bees buzz around (2) sit inside & use the wifi to work, read, write, etc. (3) make new friends with other local, ride-or-die Brown Street Coffee regulars--we really are a community. Lastly, I want to talk about the staff that somehow manages to find their way into your heart, as if they are your actual friends. Are they? Yes. They are. If you come in on a day of absolute heartbreak (NOT THAT I EVER HAVE), you will leave uplifted, seen, & taken care of. If you come in hungry, but don't know what you want, the staff will talk you thru your options, make smart recommendations, & are generally so lovely & pleasant. If you just want to refill your social battery, they are always game & will definitely crack you up even if you really don't want to laugh that day. I don't even know how a cafe in Philly got so lucky to have such beautiful humans working in one place together, but the energy of the space is magnetic. Amir, G, Hank, Liv, Josh, Corinna, Lewie, Wylie, & Eric are all so lovely as a team & as individuals that it makes every single experience coming to this establishment truly wonderful. I could not come to recommend another cafe more & I don't. The rest can all burn in hell. Just kidding, but seriously, Brown Street is the best!! Sometimes, because I am always recommending this cafe I find it can become so busy & there is sometimes limited seating. That is the only downside. Inside is very cute as well & you can stay there comfortably for hours. The cafe is perfect & full of smiles & empathy & kindness & the best food. The space is hip, respectful, inclusive, & full of warmth. They also have beautiful plants hanging with adorable names. The staff is talented, vibrant, & interesting if you get the chance to talk to them. If you had a bad experience here, you are either lying, something was going on in the astrology, or some other third thing. I go here daily & it's been the best part of my lazy girl summer. Brown Street Coffee has certainly enriched my life & it is so close to the Art museum & Fairmount Park (literally in between both of the those places) so you should immediately stop in on your next date. Be open to the vibrancy that is Brown...

Worst service in the area. The owner kicked us out at 5:40, saying that they closed at 5:30 but took our order anyway. When I called him out on his hours as posted on Google he said they took last call at 5:30. We'll never go back.

Edit: The owner's response to my review is bizarre and alarmingly stalker-esque, not to mention untrue. I have NO idea what he's talking about with a banana and drinks. Very strange. But I have nothing to do with reviews in my profession. I work in the field of web analytics. But that has NOTHING to do with my review. It's just smoke. And intimidating patrons with replies like this only reflects poorly on the business. We were treated disrespectfully and lied to, and that's why I left the review. When we were told the shop was closed, I asked what time they closed because people were still coming into the coffee shop after we left. And the owner said 5:30 and added "we served you anyway" - as if he had done us a favor. It was only after checking their Google page that I saw they closed at 6. And the danish was of the quality of a pastry you'd buy at a convenience store. It was...

Brown Street Coffee is exactly what I love about the food scene in Fairmount. They have a great little coffee shop that would probably survive on its own. Then they add Bahn Mi because why not. They open at 7am and I am usually here around then to grab coffee before work.

For my own taste, I am not a huge fan of their coffee. I typically get a black drip dark roast and there is just something about that taste that I usually find off. Why do they get 5 Stars you ask? Their Bahn Mi, plain and simple. It is some of the best Bahn Mi I have had in the US and perfectly prepared on the right bread without too many ingredients.

At breakfast, you can even get egg sandwiches on their Bahn Mi buns - which is a real treat. They also have a pretty wide assortment of baked goods in the morning. There is something for everyone.

I'm not sure why I keep pay $5 for coffee I don't really like. Maybe it's convenience. Maybe it's the atmosphere. Maybe I like supporting a local small business. It's probably a healthy mix of all three. Regardless, I'll keep coming back and...

This is my second cafe experience in Philadelphia after weeks in France experiencing their unique café experience. Nothing compares to Parisian café culture. In the U.S. it’s the local coffee shop with sidewalk seating and coffee and food served on dishes. At the Brown Street Coffee & Bánhery, the cappuccino does not disappoint. The underlying coffee beans are not bitter and the temperature of the milk is just right. While the food prep area is small, my egg sandwich was still made to my specifications (no cheese) without the corporate feel to food warmed at other places. The baked goods come from a local bakery was the response to a customer’s question who was also concerned about corporate sourcing of food. Everything about this coffee shop feels local — a neighborhood stop for that morning joe or rest and water for the dogs on their walk. This place exudes joy and good vibes and while many have passed through it’s been joyful to relax and savor a petit dejeuner here.

I really like this neighborhood cafe and banh mi shop! The staff is very sweet and works hard to serve the neighborhood. This place feels a lot more casual and accepting than some of the other cafes in the area (those with suffocating environments), making it our preferred breakfast spot if we go out. We always order ahead on the website, which makes pickup really convenient. The coffee is pretty good and prices are comparable to those around the area, but the sandwiches are what we stop by for in the mornings! They're within walking distance and are full of texture and flavor. Not the most topping-packed banh mi in the city, but for a neighborhood shop full of kind service and good vibes, they're great.
