I found a piece of glass in my food, about the size of my pinky nail, and they treated it as though it were my fault.
I've been coming to this location for years with family and others during occasions. Tonight, it was my girlfriend's 21st birthday. Having gone to this place a couple times and enjoying the food, we decided to go.
During my meal (salmon and rice), I bit down into a piece of red ridged hard plastic/glass (not sure) about the size of pinky nail. I immediately called the server over and kindly explained what had happened. She was apologetic and brought the food and plastic/glass back to the kitchen. When my server came back out, I was very understanding, but a bit shook as I've never had this happen. I simply asked if they could replace the dish.
After the dish came back out, my girlfriend asked on my behalf if I was still responsible for paying for the dish with plastic in it, the server said she'll talk to the chef and "figure it out". Keep in mind, I wasn't even asking for the entire bill, which any other nice establishment would have picked up without hesitation if a customer found a large piece of plastic/glass in their food. Just the entree in question. About 10 minutes later she came out and said I wouldn't have to pay for the dish with plastic in it, but I would have to pay for everything else. Okay. Whatever at this point.
Afterwards was the most awkward dining experience I've ever had. Servers kept coming over and looking at us or clearly talking while shooting us glances. This was very uncomfortable and I was just finished with the meal at this point, so I asked for the check. I asked if this restaurant offered any cake or similar for birthdays, since I didn't wanna ruin the night for my girlfriend.
The server became incredibly defensive, said "Um. We can put a candle in it or something, but it isn't free." I just said "Okay.... Can we please get the check then please? We'll go somewhere else.." As the server brought out the check, she said "my chef wanted you to have this." And gave us ice cream, which was a nice gesture, even if it wasn't her own, but my girlfriend has troubles with ice cream, which is why I specifically mentioned cake. We ate a little, then left rather uncomfortably.
Overall, it just felt very strange to me that I was being treated as the bad guy for finding plastic in my food? I understand that the server wasn't at fault, and I kept making that clear, not getting angry at all. Yet, after that happened, I was treated as if I shouldn't be at that restaurant. And I had to pay for that experience.
I used to love coming here for the food, but I don't think I'll ever be back again after such a horrible meal. Especially since the waitress knew it was my girlfriend's birthday as she checked her ID for a glass of wine.
There's a lot of nice restaurants in this area, maybe opt for one of those instead, if you're reading this review and wondering if you...
Read moreOn June 13th I visited the restaurant, I asked the hostess for a table for 8 people the hostess proceeded to tell me that the restaurant only accepted groups of 4 max. therefore my group of 8 could not be served. Of course I was not happy about the news the manager was next to the hostess and she (the manager) proceeded to tell me that this was a rule followed by the restaurant even before the pandemic, we even asked about 2 tables that were empty next to the door to see we could sit there, the manager proceeded to say that those tables were reserved and we could not sit there. I went outside and I told my sister (who had just arrived) the news, she immediately when inside to ask herself but this time the reaction of the manager and the hostess was different, this time my sister was allowed to sit down with her party of 8 people with no problem, what was worst is that we were sit down on the 2 tables that I was previously told that were "reserved". I felt discriminated and lied to, I asked for the manager to come to the table so I could express my discomfort, when she arrive she proceeded to defend her point and her reasons of why I was not allowed to sit down but my sister was, stating that the reservations were "canceled" and that was why my sister was told yes while I was told no. I personally find her story hard to believe and the whole only groups of 4 people allowed was just ridiculous I have never visited a restaurant that send me away for such a limit or any limit for that matter. she didn't even apologized for her acting. I also find hard to believe that I was not allowed to sit down based on some form of discrimination I'm hispanic, with dark skin and with an accent on my English. I will never go back there, the food wasn't even that great, though our server Josh...
Read moreBud & Marilyn's is the homiest restaurant ever. It's like stepping back in time to grandmom's kitchen. It's a restaurant, obviously, but it's like when you'd come home from college on a break and mom would make all your old favorites that you'd been craving.
On this visit, I came with a friend. We had tickets to JVN's tour and wanted something close by to the theaters. Sadly, the tour cancelled but we kept our reservation anyway and still went to dinner.
She ordered a cocktail and I ordered the Wile E Coyote mocktail (pregnancy-safe). It was a little tart but better than just getting a plain soda -- felt festive. I've had old fashioneds in the past here and they're amazing -- this place knows how to make a cocktail.
We split the cheese curds and I was really impressed by the salsa! It made it feel like a really jazzed up, flavorful, spicy mozzarella stick situation.
I ordered the meatloaf and it was SO flavorful. I loved that it was stuffed with greens in addition to the carrots and potatoes as sides. I finished the whole thing. I usually avoid mushrooms so I didn't even try the gravy but it was wholly unnecessary in my opinion. The meatloaf was so moist as it was and that ketchupy/BBQy sauce on the outside was JUST like mom used to make. Friend ordered the steak and it was cooked medium, perfectly.
We then split the chocolate peanut butter cake for dessert because who can resist one of the giant slices of cake! It was so yummy. We loved the little crunchies to add some texture.
Overall, a delicious meal and solid service. Love this place and highly...
