We visited Philadelphia with a large group for an event in town. Many stayed at various places. We had two rooms for our stay. My family of 4 had one room and my in-laws in another. My sister-in-law decided the day before to cancel and stay across the street. |The most important thing to mention is that this is a very small/old hotel. The Lobby is small but clean and the people working are over the top friendly. |Rooms- Our room was on the front of the building where you see the windows. The windows are covered on the inside by heavy curtains, but the windows are so dirty on the outside that you can't see out. There is what looks like a window air unit in the window that is for heat and cool. There are also two old heater plates on the wall that are plugged in. It was cool in there, but not cold. We tried everything to heat it up a little but didn't get anything to work. I asked at the desk and they said the window unit is how we would heat the room. We tried everything to no avail. Not a huge deal as it wasn't freezing. Beds were comfortable and linens soft and clean. The main overhead light turned off many of the wall plugs so charging things was tricky. The only mirror in the room was in the bathroom so it was difficult to have someone shower and someone get ready. When we got back in the evenings, we wanted to watch a movie with our Netflix Acct. The TV's are not Smart TV's so we couldn't. The TV connection is also pretty poor so the reception is pretty fuzzy. Just local channels. There was a min refrigerator and microwave. |Building - I think the second floor of this building must have been apartments or something as the hallways are very narrow and choppy. There is a narrow staircase that goes up and an elevator that has a very narrow opening, but opens to a little larger space. They just did the best they could with an old building. Not a big deal. The first floor hallway looks pretty normal. The ceilings feel higher and the hallway not as narrow. There is a nice ice machine on first floor near the front. The staircase was pretty dirty, but did get vacuumed during our stay. |Breakfast - Very small (but nice) space, so simple foods. Yogurt (off brand), cereal, make your own waffles, orange juice, coffee, and limited fruit. (apples and cuties, but not the freshest)|I think that this has new ownership, and they are trying to improve some things. Everyone was very kind and an employee, A'Nazarey asked if we saw things that needed improved. |Thoughts - We came to town two nights before originally planned so stayed a street over to the east. It was a cool street. No frills, No front desk or food, but I enjoyed the stay there. We stayed her for 4 nights and if I had to do over, I would stay in our original spot (even a little cheaper because no breakfast), or my first pick is where my sister-in-law stayed. It was the same price and they had full breakfast with name brand food. Bacon, eggs, french toast, waffles, sausage, oatmeal, etc. There lobby was very nice, rooms were normal. The rooms at Quality Inn are doable for sure. There are no bugs or deliberate dirtiness. I guess it just depends on price at the time and what you are looking for. I do want to stress that I think Quality Inn is trying to improve and EVERYONE was so kind. There is not a lot that can be done for an old building. Have...
Read moreThere were to many obvious problems with my room, the first and most was the danger for a person such as my self of getting injured. Due to my vision impairment where I need additional or adequate lighting, this room that I had was not equipped with sufficient lighting in as one of two desk lamps that is suppose to be on the night stand was not available, as there was only 1 of the 2 on 1 night stand and the other night stand had no lamp on it at all, and the over head light was limited to just 1 on the ceiling near the entrance to the room and at night the lack of light for me was a big issue.
When it came to convenience it turned out to be less than convenient, because the microwave that was in the room did not work, but I did not know this so I had purchased a frozen TV Dinner with the intention to heat it up that evening for dinner not knowing that the microwave did not work.
Upon entering the room it was freezing cold in the room, as it seems the air-conditioner was left on running and although I tried using the remote to the air-conditioner as well as pushing on the buttons to change the settings, that was not possible because the remote did not work to change the settings and the buttons did not work either, resulting in I having to turn the air-conditioner off. I had submitted all this information in the morning to the front desk early in the morning, but before I had use the toilet, so I had not included a problem with the toilet on the list that I wrote and gave to the front desk, so the problem of the toilet was not included on the note that I had given to the front desk. and did not know about any problem with the toilet till after I had submitted the note to the front desk, and that problem was that the toilet seat was loose.
So later that manager had came to the room to see the problems that I had reported, and that's when I showed him the problem with the toilet, that in my opinion should be immediately taken care of before having this room occupied again by a guest, because of the seat itself being loose I almost fell off of it as it was really loose and moved as I went to sit on it, clearly a serious danger for anyone guest especially a senior such as me.
Last the breakfast is less than good because a bag of chips, a small box of cereal, a granola bar, a bottle of water and no milk in a bag, where I saw one lady a guest going through some bags removing some items from out of one bag and putting some other items into another bag, is less than desirable for me, what ever happened to a continental breakfast.
So to summarize the manager founded that the microwave was unplugged, but everything else he could not fixed or address, and he simply apologized to me, nothing else, so I did not get to eat my tv-dinner, and I lost what I had paided for the dinner, as I could not take it with me, I had no dinner or breakfast, nothing to eat in that eveing when I checked in. and nothing to eat in the morning of checking out.
Totally disappointed, not like Jacksonville Florida, where I enjoyed my stay at a Quality Inn a few years ago, before this last stay in Philadelphia PA.
By the way I took pictures and did a video to substantiated my allegations, or to...
Read moreUPDATED REVIEW after 09/02/2023 I stayed again at this Inn on 09/01-09/02 for another eye surgery. It was a different place altogether. I can say that one of the staff remembered me and was as pleasant as the first time and a joy. There was also a complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby this visit. Those are the only positive points. I arrived in town early for surgery and stopped by the Inn to insure that my reservation was good (they graciously offered to hold our luggage) then went for surgery. We returned after the surgery to check in and were given a room on the 7th floor, which was not serviced by the elevator. We had to take the elevator to the 6th floor then walk up a set of stairs constructed before building codes. When we got in the room, which was touted as a suite, it had only one bed, despite me booking a double queen bed room. When my brother asked at the desk, we were told it was the only room they had and offered a cot. It was suitable for a toddler or adolescent, but hardly dignified for a grown man. Stuck with this room, as I had to be positioned face down for recovery, we decided to make due. The room was dirty, with physical debris on the floor like it hadn't been vacuumed recently (much the same as the carpet on the scary staircase). There were also dirty linens on the floor outside the room our entire stay, and must have been seen by staff when they brought the cot up. The "suite" was considerably smaller than the regular room I stayed in previously, and was adjacent to the elevator mechanical room, providing a never ending thumping and general noise, day and night. The bathroom was smaller and both of us were afraid to shower in it (the grout was black in some areas and grey in other, we believe from dirt/mold). Aside from the stairs being dirty the elevator floor was also quite dirty and it appeared to long term dirt rather than normal daily usage. There were still no guide books or info of any kind and the street noise was quite loud again. We did not eat the prepared continental breakfast even though it was tempting (my brother had a sealed cereal bar) because of the dirty conditions. I booked this through Priceline and they had 3 rooms left when I booked. I reached out to Red Lion who advised it was independently owned and out of their control. (They did offer a $100 voucher if I signed up for some free plan good at any of their properties, I declined) and advised me they would have the owner or a representative contact me. I still haven't heard from anyone. I am disappointed in the downward turn the Red Lion Inn took and I will not stay there again despite the price level (I have stayed in $35 a night motels that...
