Chan's Halal Chinese Food — Restaurant in Philadelphia

**I hope the owner of this place reads this review. Because he needs to know what goes on at this place. Unless he doesn’t care, which is likely possible. He should be shamed to say he’s a Muslim and run a place like this. SubhanAllah!

If you don’t read my long review, at least read this: dirty, rude ghetto incompetent employees, nasty food, horrible customer service, if you try to return your food you’ll be faced with wannabe gangsters. Wonder if this place is even halal...

After my experience tonight, I will never again go to this place! Walking in I am not greeted at all. The girl who takes my order stops in the middle to goof off and laugh to her coworker (this comes into detail later) and then tells me they don’t have shrimp chow mein. So I run out to the car to tell my mom she needs to change her order, only to have the girl come running out and say they actually do have it. So I finish my order and assume all is well, take my food and leave. Upon arriving home I see they screwed my order up. I ordered general tso ( the first thing I told the cashier) but instead they gave me a nasty looking soupy thing they call “shrimp with lobster sauce” and a tiny thing of over cooked rice. For $10.00. Remember when I said the girl got distracted taking my order? Well apparently she messed up and gave me this instead of the general Tso. So I called up the restaurant to let them know they made a mistake and told the girl I ate some of the shrimp with lobster sauce (how I knew it tasted bad) and she said “how are we supposed to sell it if someone touched it”!! Seriously?! You guys are going to resell some food you messed up someones order?? My husband went there to return the food and the Girl had her brothers waiting for my husband to intimidate him! What is a gang running this place?! Do we need to get the cops involved in order to return food for fear of being killed by these hoodlums?

Now I’m scared to eat any of the other food since God knows what else they do there. The place was really dirty. And to be honest, none of the food we got tonight looked that appetizing. I won’t be back here!! Bad attitude, bad customer service, nasty food and they claim to be halal...what a joke!!! Go to Upper Darby if you want halal Chinese!! The owner of this place obviously doesn’t care who he has working for him or care about his customers!...

-Beyond horrifying and waste of money- We chose this place because it said halal Chinese food and so We ordered a bunch of items last night (Jan 28, 2020) and almost everything tasted the worst I have every tried in all restaurants combined. Ordered items:

Chicken fried rice - rice uncooked. Chicken in huge piece, plain white, not been marinated at all. So chicken was in huge slices of super white tasteless pieces. Only some bean sprouts were given with none other vegetable. No egg.

Shrimp fried rice - rice uncooked. The rice must be cooked the same time with the chicken friend rice except that they split half and tossed the above-horrific chicken for one half and the other half for the plain frozen shrimps.

Chicken wonton soup - worst I have ever tried. I had a bite of wonton and had to throw all away. Huge and thick tasteless wonton sheets with tiny tasteless chunk of bits of chicken in yellowish water.

Chicken lo mein - a bit edible. Chicken still as tasteless in plain white pieces with some huge slices of bell peppers.

Chicken with cashew nuts - a bit edible though carrot cubes are large and still a bit hard.

Mixed vegtable stirred fry - topped with gluey sauce with chunks of broccolis and some onions and whatever veg they put.

I am so disappointed. We paid about 110usd for all these and other items I didn't try. Even my husband said he would finish so much of the leftovers because they all were so yuck. I had to tried to put garlic, onion, slices chicken and shrimps in smaller pieces, tried to out more sauces, mixed veg, eggs so that we wouldn't waste all the food.... And still it's not good coz the rice was uncooked...

The first time I ordered from here I got the cashew chicken and a side of French fries which were really good. Besides the fries, I feel the meal was pretty healthy, not the type of food u feel bad after eating because it's so heavy and bad for u. I thought the portion size was cool. I also got a spring roll and can of soda for free which is a plus because most Chinese stores are too stingy for that type of stuff. U can imagine my amazement when my food arrived in 25 mins from ordering time. For some reason the Grubhub menu says delivery is $7 or something like that..someone needs to fix that asap lol because it almost stopped me from ordering from here and taking a chance. It was actually $2.

The second time I ordered from here I ordered the general tso shrimp and fried rice. The delivery was fast again. The rice was very good and the general tso sauce was good too. The amount of shrimp and the breading are my only complaints. I think I got around 7or 8 smedium.. yes I spelled that correctly..smedium shrimp for almost $12. The breading was not right. It was a chewy texture and too heavy/thick for the little shrimp under it. In the end I had a pile of the thick breading. Try something more light and crunchy for breading or forget it all together because it was still good with out it. They also kept the tips on the shrimp which sucked because they looked bigger at first glance.

All together the food was no doubt, fresh and cooked well a lot better than the regular Chinese stores. Still going to order from them of course but until I feel they can do better with the shrimp thats...
