We stopped in for a quick bite on our way to a local theater production at Masterman. Only after stepping through the doors did I realize—this is the old Westy’s Tavern! A place where, 25 years ago, I happy-houred many times. While the space has been transformed, there’s a familiar warmth lingering in the air, like the friendly ghosts of Westy’s past still watching over the bar.

The owner greeted us at the door and personally escorted us to the bar. With limited time, we opted for a quick round of appetizers and cocktails, and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. They rushed our order (and re-order) so we could be on our way without feeling rushed ourselves. Shrimp skewers with cucumber salad (twice), steamed pork dumplings, and crab rangoon—each dish arrived piping hot, fresh, and a solid rendition of its kind. Our entire visit clocked in under 30 minutes, yet we never felt like we were just passing through.

The renovated space is built for hanging out, drinking, and belting out karaoke, but the menu reads well enough to warrant a return visit for a full meal. It feels like a hidden gem if you find yourself in this part of town.

And perhaps it was fate (or maybe just the pull of a good cocktail) that led us to stop in again after the show. Walking past on the way back to the nearby parking garage, we couldn’t resist unwinding with one last round. The staff, still as friendly as before, asked us about the performance—just another small moment that underscores what makes this place special.

From the owner to the cook, the entire team is smiling, welcoming, and eager to make your visit enjoyable. If you’re looking for a regular spot, this one is a strong contender. After all, the friendly ghosts of Westy’s might still be here—just with a fresh coat of paint and a karaoke...

Walked in and at first I couldn't figure out what was going on. But there was karaoke happening! A small group of young people were passing the mic between each song. There was no indication at the time that we were welcome to sing too, until we were leaving, but I'm sure it was just a matter of us asking. The staff was VERY friendly and the kitchen was very accommodating and made me the most DELICIOUS veggie fried rice since I am plant based. I forgot there might be egg but I ate it anyway. The portion size was good. I was allergic to something in it though. Perhaps next time I will ask if they can substitute tamari for traditional soy sauce and/or black vinegar or leave it out altogether. I also get similar reactions to MSG so next time I will inquire about it and see if they can leave it out for me. My food got cold quickly. (Seems the heater may have been on the blink). But again it was SO delicious! Hubby had the cheese steak egg rolls and full moon chicken which he thoroughly enjoyed. He paid the dinner price for the chicken but felt like he received a lunch portion. But other than that there were no complaints. The bathroom was clean. Overall our experience was great. "Ferdy" our waiter, who was also doubling as a bartender, made it extra special. Will definitely return, with friends along. Suggestions are 1) put veggie fried rice on the menu and name it after me lol and maybe one other vegan dish like tofu or chickpea curry 2) give option to make certain dishes gluten free and/or egg free 3) bigger portions on the higher priced "dinner" dishes 4) let new guests know they can...

A Hidden Gem for Food and Fun – Fat Moon Delivers Big!

Fat Moon is hands down one of the best Asian fusion spots I’ve been to in a long time. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is electric—vibrant decor, moody lighting, and just the right mix of chic and cozy. Whether you’re here for a casual dinner or a wild karaoke night, this place knows how to set the mood.

The food? Absolutely phenomenal. The menu blends traditional Asian flavors with modern twists that take every dish to the next level. And don’t even get me started on their craft cocktails. The Lychee Mojito was dangerously smooth, and their beer selection is great as well.

But what really makes Fat Moon special is the energy. Once the karaoke starts, the whole place transforms. Whether you’re belting out classics or just cheering on brave singers, it’s impossible not to get caught up in the fun. The staff is fantastic—attentive, friendly, and more than happy to make recommendations (or encourage a second round of drinks).

If you’re looking for a spot that nails both food and entertainment, Fat Moon is the place to be. Whether it’s a date night, a birthday bash, or just a random Tuesday, this spot delivers every time....
