I'd give 100 stars if I could because Ji Bei Chuan is absolutely brilliant and knocks every single dish out of the park. We flew into town for the weekend and although we sampled other eateries, we went back to Ji Bei Chuan because it is THAT AMAZING and I knew I'd regret it if I didn't. No other places came close. Picture perfectly tangy cucumber salad, delectable and savory braised beef, egg drop soup with an unmatched texture of egg and broth, and flawless, golden potato fritters. The dumpling choices are numerous. We tried several and each one was full of respective flavor and a wonderfully rich, chewy texture. Everything on the plate was impeccably fresh and beautifully presented.
For each dish that came with a dipping sauce, the server mixed the specific sauce directly before serving, for the table. They served water with lemon already in it, as well, so this brought an additional clean and bright taste to every new bite. I loved that.
It's meticulously clean and comfortable, and the service was incredible, as in they anticipated what we needed before we even asked and it was provided.
The owner was so funny and also so very kind, as well! We ordered a whole bunch of stuff at once (everything looked so good we just ordered a lot of stuff - both times) and I'm so glad we made that choice. Also, when we left, I asked if I could buy one of the reusable bags they have so I could take it home and remember how delicious everything was and he gave me a couple! It was so kind of him because he didn't have to do that.
What I also appreciate is that they have dishes for every palate. So, this is also a perfect place for picky eaters or someone who has specific food needs.
My companion said his only regret was not coming earlier each day so we could just eat 2 meals there and that day.
I could go on and on but I won't. In short: the excellent reviews you see and the hype is real. Everything is delicious and I cannot recommend this establishment enough.
I've never been to Philly before this trip but 100% I'll be coming back, and as soon as I get off the plane you'd better believe I'm making a beeline for Ji Bei...
Read moreI’ve eaten here three times (7/3/24, 10/16/24, and 2/23/25) and ordered the same thing each time — the Supreme Fish Maw Rice Noodle with Chicken. IT’S SO COMFORTING AND COZY. Perfect for a cold day and if you don’t want anything too greasy/heavy. It comes with some corn, goji berry, lettuce, one morel mushroom, enoki mushroom, bean curd, wood ear mushroom, tofu puffs, and of course the fish maw.
The cold cucumber salad, fried chicken wings, and salt and pepper squid are yummy appetizers. The bean curd salad leaves more to be desired. Between the cucumber salad and bean curd salad I would recommend the cucumber.
My boyfriend had ordered their spicy beef brisket noodle soup and beef brisket tomato soups the previous two times but wasn’t a fan of either — but on his third visit he enjoyed their signature fish maw noodle soup :) (This 5-star review is based on my experience though, not his haha)
They give a peanut side dish and salad to munch on while the main dishes come. I like the atmosphere, it’s cozy and feels almost homey in a good way.
I’d be willing to try their other dishes but the fish maw noodle soup is so good...
Read moreHOW TERRIBLE! Family of 5 visited Philly, was dining in this place yesterday, also the last day of our trip. Few points to say;
2)Awful foods, we don’t want to eat something salty or something you can get from 99 Ranch or Asian grocery store to cook at home in a restaurant, especially it is opened at Chinatown. What a shame.
Only my sister took a pic of her own ramen, I can tell the boss approaches to customers for good reviews and feedbacks, this’s not a bad thing, but please in an appropriate...
