Tldr; Mayu ramen is extremely flavorful with excellent broth teeming with garlic. Paired beautifully with melt in your mouth pork, a delicious egg, bamboo shoots and etc. Noodles were firm and held onto the broth perfectly. Karaage chicken was light and crispy. Not too salty, it focuses more on the chicken itself and how juicy it is underneath the breading. The food here is always amazing! After being in Japan, Terakawa’s ramen is generally the only place that can satisfy my cravings for flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles. I loved this place and been coming here since they opened 5+ years ago, so I decided to bring my friend to try it for his first time. We just sat down at the table and he hasn’t had time to look at the menu yet and a server comes by 3 minutes later and asks if we’re ready to order. I always order the mayu ramen with extra spice and no ginger with a side of karaage chicken. My friend asked if he could have more time deciding and the server gives him the side eye and a click of the tongue. Now normally the servers are super nice and this threw me off and I told him maybe it’s because they’re overwhelmed since it’s busy. Another server comes by and asks my friend if he wants to order and he points to a ramen on the menu on his phone asking if he could get the signature and said that he’s trying it out because he hasn’t had ramen before. Now, we are seated right next to the workers eating their lunch and the chipotle they had, made us want it more than the ramen lol. They eventually gave him the same ramen I have and I said that’s not the signature and my friend said that it was alright, he would take it anyways. All said and done right? No! The server who took his order comes up right behind him and starts off aggressive, “no, you ordered the mayu! I heard you say mayu!” And my friend did not mention anything else except that he said signature and retorted that it was fine, he was going to eat it anyways. As she storms off mumbling under her breath saying he ordered mayu. At this point, he did not want to eat anymore because of how rude this person was especially after he told them it was fine. The servers never came back to refill our waters so we asked for the check and they packed up his food. After leaving, he mentioned that he doesn’t want to come here anymore. I’m so upset because this restaurant is so well-known for its delicious food and he wasn’t able to...
Read moreBe prepared for a long wait for subpar Ramen.
Decided to go here with a small group of friends and didn't realize how busy the place would be. The restaurant is fairly small with a super limited number of tables. When we arrived, each table was taken, so we had to place our names down on a waitlist. We were number 2 in line and the wait was showing around 5 to 12 minutes when we first arrived, but this was highly inaccurate. We wound up waiting about double the amount of time, so more than a 20 minute wait, which would not have been a problem if the waitlist was accurate.
When we were finally seated, it did take some time for our orders to be taken and for the food to come out.
I wasn't too impressed with the menu. It's mainly what you'd expect from a Ramen shop, a few different apps, several Ramen options, a singular type of dessert.
We decided on a miso Ramen, spicy Ramen, and a bibim noodles for our main meals. We also ordered pork buns and takoyaki for our apps.
The portion sizes are fairly large but it does make sense for the price. It would make more sense to serve smaller portions and charge customers less so there isn't so much food waste. My friends really enjoyed the miso Ramen and the bibim noodles, but the spicy Ramen lacked flavor. Aside from the spice, there was nothing truly special about it. I was left a bit disappointed. Would rate the the spicy Ramen a 4 out of 10.
Regarding the apps, the pork bun was okay. Lacked flavor as well and not enough meat. 5 out of 10. As for the takoyaki, I just may not be a fan of that appetizer. I didn't like how mushy it was on the inside, but I do believe that is just part of how it is meant to be cooked. Regardless, I would rate about a 4 out of 10 but, again, the rating is lower due to my personnel preference for texture in food.
I think this would be a great place for true Ramen lovers, but unfortunately, I am just not the biggest fan of Ramen so my experience wasn't...
Read moreNow I absolutely used to love this place, but my last experience was unacceptable and I will not be back. I ordered the Seafood ramen just to try something new. I’m a seafood person so I said why not. When it came out, the smell of it was so bad. I mean it smelled like they served me seafood that expired a week ago. I’ve never had that experience with seafood. I passed the ramen to my friend because I thought ‘ok, maybe it’s me.’ She too said that it didn’t smell like anything anyone should eat. It was like they went through the trash to get whatever seafood they put in it. I didn’t make a big deal out of it. I simply said the ramen smells bad and that I’d like to order something else. They of course let me order something else, but guess what.. They made me pay for the expired, trash smelling seafood ramen. I mean they had the audacity to serve me bad food and make me pay for it. Now I could’ve walked out after seeing that, but I paid anyway. Their excuse was they’re a small business and that it cost for them to prepare the ramen lol… the waitress also seemed to be aggressive while explaining this.. I said ok.. I paid and left a $0 tip. The cost of the Ramen was her tip so it didn’t mean much to me. I just wish they understood the price of doing bad business. Me not liking the food is maybe one thing.. me being served expired food is another. We walked out to catch the Uber and happened to walk past the trash on the curb.. my friend said omg “that’s how your...
