Tdlr: The products were average and poorly made, the service was horrible, prices ok, parking average. I don't recommend.
Menu: My biggest problem with this menu is that there are names for things (in Chinese and also poorly translated) with no description whatsoever. At some point we read the Chinese and English and had no idea what some of this stuff was. Considering this is a US based chain there's not really an excuse for this. And my grandmother and father are both HK immigrants, so in theory this should be up their alley. My other qualm with this shop is the fact that everything has dairy in it, which you can only tell from the tiny dairy free sticker on like 3 products. Like even the sesame soup has dairy in it. For a population that is lactose in tolerant, other than drinks there was not a lot of option. I didn't remove stars from this, but it was a disappointment.
Food: I ended up getting a "mango pancake" which is just a slice of mango and whipped cream under a crepe. I don't understand how an American chain can have such a poor English description, like in no world was that a pancake. My sister got the black sesame soup and it was poorly mixed and had a skin on it, my pancake was good for what it was, my grandmother got sago with herbal jelly which was OK and my father got the mo mo cha cha which, as both him and my grandmother pointed out , "it's good but not a real mo mo cha cha". This place has so many good reviews but honestly this place is below average for a cafe. The only thing that's good is their drinks, which is why there is 2 stars instead of 1. We wanted a taste of HK bit got a taste of mediocrity.
Service: All of our stuff came out at vastly different times, to the point where we ended up getting a 10% discount because of slow service. There is no reason that this is a sit down service, I'm surprised it wasn't an order at the counter and pick up your food when ready kind of deal. The girl couldn't remember our order, and it took way to long to "cook" everything that we ordered. They were nice but it was overall irritating, especially since our food wasn't what we wanted.
Parking: like typical Philly Chinatown you either have to street park or get in a garage. We managed to get a street spot a few blocks down pretty easily.
Overall based on our experience we won't be going back to any locations. I want to support Asian businesses so bad, that I tried to convince myself this is good. But the experience was so poor that I can't in good consciousness recommend this to others. Find a local mom and pop cafe to support instead of this bad chain, lots of options...
Read moreI called to place an order for pick up, the guy on the phone treated me with a rude, impatient attitude after I only asked him "how long will my order take" because I need to catch the bus. When I went in to pick up my order, this is what I paid for on the receipt but I did not order A4, I ordered the mango juice with rice ball, not with the Ice cream. And clearly you can see in the picture there is no ice cream in the order, but the receipt says it. I paid for something I did not get. On the receipt you can see I paid for the combo that came with ice cream but there is no Ice cream, because on the phone I ordered without Ice cream. So, the server charged me for the wrong order and also gave me the wrong order. I confronted the skinny guy at the cashier and he told me there is a change in the menu and he put it as if it is my fault after I clearly told him what I want on the phone. He took everything out from the bag to show me there is no ice cream but did not put my stuff back until I asked him. Really disgusted and pissed about the attitude served for this. I did not receive any apology but faced this ignorant and nasty attitude. I did not ask for anything because I got what I wanted, but I simply wanted an explanation of what's on the receipt for what I paid for. Nobody wants to pay extra for something they did not order and worst part you should train your employee with proper manner when it comes serving people. Some people buy your product for convenience, not how good your product is. You should learn how to speak to people working in the food service field. I am not looking for some superior customer service, but you gave me an unwelcome and unfriendly attitude as if I am not paying for the order! Don't know his name, but it is the same guy who picked up my call and took my pay, the skinny guy with perm. I am trying to hold off my language here but definitely not coming back...
Read moreService/Atmosphere : The service was great! Everything was served quickly. Everything was clean. It’s small on the inside, so tables are close, but not close enough to be an issue. It’s very dimly lit, with a warm & peaceful ambience. I went on a day where they happened to be having a promotion, and ended up receiving a free cup with my order🤗! Overall - 10/10 Follow @citycriticfiles on IG for more reviews!
Strawberry Mango Juice Lychee - Wow! An amazing treat this is! This dessert is so refreshing! The fresh flavors of the fruit, matched with the creamy sweetness of the ice cream is brilliant! The Lychee & Sago adds some texture that keeps your tastebuds engaged throughout the entire treat. There’s truly nothing I’d change about this. Outstanding. Overall- 10/10
Mango Sticky Rice - The presentation of this dish is beautiful! I loved the plating & extra garnishes. The Sticky Rice itself was slightly dry. It didn’t have the moist inside that fresh Sticky Rice typically has. Even with adding the cream, it didn’t seep into the rice. The mangoes were okay. They were very soft, and juicy. However, they weren’t as sweet or flavorful as I would’ve liked. It didn’t give me that burst of mango flavor that I was expecting. To add more moisture,I decided to spread some of the ice cream on top of the Sticky Rice and THAT is what fixed it for me. The cold, creamy ice cream penetrated the rice and added a flavor that I fell in love with. If they had a treat where it’s Ice Cream between the Sticky Rice patties, I’d be there JUST for that. My suggestion is that they use riper mangoes (but I’ll give it grace because they’re not in season right now). As well as work on maintaining moisture in their sticky rice, and not allowing it to dry out. Maybe add coconut cream into the cream mixture to add more flavor....
