Don’t be fooled by the reviews. Completely overrated and a waste of time. Finally had a chance to visit after hearing all the hype. Arrived before opening time with just a few people in line. Was told there “wasn’t space” for us and we’d have to wait at least an hour for a table. I doubt the lack of space was a true statement. After hearing about how difficult it was to get a table here I found the inside of this place to be pretty tired and cheap looking. The furnishings look like they came from a prison cafeteria. The “members only” concept is simply there to create false demand for a completely underwhelming experience. The food is good but it’s certainly not the best Italian restaurant this city has to offer. Philly is filled with a ton of tastier, trendier, more opulent Italian restaurants which will take reservations and won’t rely on pretentiousness to create false hype. They also seem to play games with memberships here - they likely won’t sell you one in person. Don’t be a sheep, look elsewhere, there are countless better options. Check out Little Nonna, any number of Marc Vetri or Michael Schulson’s restaurants. They are all better options and more deserving...
Read moreSo, I'm originally from Philly but have been living in Italy for 30 years and normally I don't eat italian outside of Italy. If you're from Sweden, are you looking for Swedish meatballs in Japan? But I heard about this place via the "all-knowing" internet, and it piqued my interest. Turns out this is a members only restaurant. 😪 But not only did the door man let us enter, he welcomed us and gave us the immediate feeling of greeting with no sense of him doing us a favor. Living in Italy, I've realized food tastes better when it is served by charming and friendly people. Both of those boxes were checked and double-checked. And now the food! Delicious, delectable, and overall dy-no-mite!! (J.J. Walker voice). No spoilers, but I will leave you with this: Brown Butter Sauce!!!! I want a membership, even though I live across...
Read moreI really wanted to go after I looked up the best Italian restaurants in the city. So without researching further we took a lyft to the location and the lights were off. I smelled something delicious in the air being cooked so I almost thought they were open but quiet. No such luck. Instead, we we to D'Angelos and had a lovely romantic evening of delicious Italian. We were instead stuck in the pitch black. The number wasn't on the door either. I'm also not sure if it is wheelchair accessible. We were in town visiting for a bar mitzvah and wanted to take in something unique. Oh well. Please email me at my name at the owner of this review's site dot com if you have a membership. I'd be delighted for a chance...
