Totally underwhelmed with this place, both in terms of food and service. I was staying in Philly for the night and wanted to try something new; the hotel recommended this place so I figured I'd give it a shot. When I called, I ordered a large margarita pizza, which is pretty hard to mess up, right? (Especially if your specialty is pizza!) I also got a side order of cheesy bread. I was quoted a half hour delivery time by the guy on the phone. An hour later (right after I called to check on the status), it finally showed up...cold...and I was over-charged for an extra large pizza rather than a large; but by this point I just wanted to eat so I wasn't going to fuss about it. I figured all would be forgiven if the food itself was worth the frustration, but sadly, that was not the case - my friend and I were both completely underwhelmed. Due to the long wait, everything was lukewarm, and the cheese had already turned completely cold. I know things happen and sometimes deliveries get delayed, but we're talking DOUBLE the wait time -- and when I called at the hour-mark to check on the status, I was not offered any kind of discount or make-good offer, which -- as someone who has worked in the industry and has also worked customer service extensively -- is just not a great way to handle things or inspire faith in your clientele. Yeah, it's Philly, and I get that there can be busier time periods; but it was midnight on a Wednesday, and if you're expecting longer than usual deliveries then at least be honest with your customers upfront. Beyond just being cold, the pizza sauce tasted really funky and not in a good way. I don't even know how to describe it beyond saying it didn't taste good, nor did it taste fresh/homemade. The cheesy bread was better than the pizza, but it still tasted pretty bad, and the cheese had already turned stiff and developed that gross texture that some chain pizza gets when it's been sitting out for too long. The ice-cold marinara sauce they included tasted weird, very watered-down and nothing about it indicated that it was fresh or homemade either. All this being said, I usually try NOT to leave any negative feedback for places unless I really have a bad experience (you can check my review history for proof that, if anything, I usually try to do the opposite), so I don't want anyone to read this and think I'm just complaining for the sake of complaining. I love finding awesome new food spots, and I don't like trashing the local joints -- I'm a huge proponent of supporting the local spots -- but I really needed to share my experience after such a thoroughly disappointing and underwhelming experience with Pizzeria Cappelli. I'd definitely reconsider ordering here if you're in the area and...
Read moreBEWARE!!! Truly terrible customer service. I walked in and waited very patiently on a busy day. I spoke with a man (possibly an owner) at the counter to pick up an online order for 2 medium pizzas and he said that the order never came in. I even showed him the confirmation number/email. He did check with the kitchen but he did not show any interest in apologizing or offering a refund. He said it's a really busy day and it would take a very long time to put the order in and just took the next customers order. He just did not care at all and gave me attitude about how busy it was. At this point I did not want to wait another hour for only 2 pizzas. I came back in to talk to him again to ask for a refund. I waited patiently again and was given no solution. A much kinder employee working the line stepped in and took the time to look at the email again and ask the kitchen about the order. This man did apologize and said that I would be refunded.
I waited for the refund on my card and I was NOT refunded.
It's safe to say I will never order from here again and I DO NOT...
Read moreInsanely expensive!!! Other reviews mention criminal, and they're right. You've even got people coming from NYC telling you you're pizza is crazy expensive! Stop gouging and taking advantage of drunk people and the community! You could surely still make money hand over fist without these astronomical prices.
I've been coming here since before it re-opened a decade ago. Gay Pizza saved me many a night after a night out and being open as late as they are. I'd happily grab 3-4 different slices whenever I came in. In the last few years I started noticing the bill approaching $40 every time. huh??? looking back at reviews pre-COVID I saw prices more what I was expecting, $6 for a specialty slice, still high but tolerable. Nearly $10 for a slice now is just ridiculous. Dont support greedy, price-gouging business...
