We visited Qu Japan for lunch, the staff was pretty friendly, service was fast and the decor is very pretty but every one of us at our table didn't enjoy our food. One of us ordered the chicken teriyaki entree, another the chicken teriyaki bento and I ordered tonkotsu ramen and an avacado roll. The chicken in both my friend's dishes were a weird mix of really squishy but the outside was somehow very dry and hard, I would not be surprised if the chicken was not made fresh, if it was, I'm not sure what was done to it to get that kind of consistency; the white rice was also old, like it had been sitting for a while, or was made the day before and reheated. My ramen was just okay. The noodles were pretty spot on with the consistency of the nearly translucent noodles you'll find in instant ramen, the pork was very thin, dry and chewy, almost like a lunch meat shaved from a dry pork roast, the seasoned egg was pretty good though and the broth was decent, but over all that wasn't enough to keep it from being the type of dish that you stop eating because you're just tired of eating it, and not because you're full. My avacado roll eventually showed up over 30 minutes after getting the rest of our food with no explanation or apology, I ended up trying a piece (it was pretty good!), but had to just get a box and take it with me because we had finished the rest of the meal and needed to leave by that point. Overall, considering it's the city and there are tons of restaurants all around, and this is a very new restaurant, I would have hoped that more effort and care would have been put...
Read moreLast night, my dining experience was extremely disappointing, and I will not be returning. The shishito peppers were deep-fried, which ruined their taste. The fried chicken rice had corn in it and lacked flavor. The sushi was very mediocre, missing something essential. The only decent item was the veggie spring rolls.
However, there was confusion when they brought out “veggie gyoza” instead of my rolls. The staff acted as if they could interpret my order; I had said “veggie rolls,” but I literally had to ask for the menu to clarify what I was referring to.
Additionally, I discovered their unadvertised policy regarding takeout during happy hour: you are allowed only ONE takeout container. The excuse given was that happy hour is intended for dine-in only. I sat down, ordered food, and spent a minimum of 45 minutes eating—surely that qualifies as dining in? Once I received my takeout container, I left it behind. I don’t appreciate having to take food home just to “doctor it up.”
When I asked to speak with a manager, I was informed that the person was not present and was asked to leave my name and number. At that point, it was clear they didn’t care; the manager could have easily been in the establishment.
I also felt misled by their happy hour advertisement, which claims $5 for food, yet everything starts at $6.50. To top it off, both my party and I ended up with upset stomachs and spent the morning feeling sick. I recommend proceeding with caution at this...
Read moreQu Japan is one of my top places to go for sushi, Ramen amongst other things. I've been quite a few times and each time they never fail to impress me. Even when they happen to be busy the service is truly exceptional. They bring out the food in such a quick and sufficient manner without being making it look sloppy or messing up. One of my favorites is the yellowtail scallion roll which is pictured below next to the shrimp tempura roll. Both are exceptional options that will make your taste buds go on fire. Also pictured is the shoyu ramen with corn, fish cakes, eggs, corn, etc. The shrimp fried rice is always phenomenal and I feel like you get a good portion for $6(happy hour special)
