They really need a zero stars option.
Got food at home? Spotify or Apply music subscription? You could stay at home. Really wanted to give this place a try but not one part of my experience was good. When we first arrived, they did not want to seat our party as we were waiting for one more person citing that the late food order would "mess up the timing of the table." Working in the food service, I knew what this meant in terms of the kitchen and trying to flip tables but it wasn't that crowded. We assured the staff that we would have the order for the extra person, so they sat us at a 4 top table instead of 5 for the size of the party (they never brought our 5th person a seat after she arrived). Table and seats were wet and dirty and we were given just one paper napkin per person that we used to clean the table and chairs.
Just before last call our waitress took our order. From there the restaurant ran out of most of the food items and cocktail ingredients. Like the place is called Brunch House but you've run out of the main ingredient for a mimosa. The math wasn't mathing for me. Especially on a holiday like St. Patrick's day. They brought our food out as it was ready after waiting a really long time for the food to eventually begin arriving. No substitutions or exchanges.
The fried green tomatoes were almost red, over cooked and flavorless, the collard greens came as a bowl full of stems sitting in 80% juice. The Seafood Lovers Brunch came with two pieces of thick, dry bread as French toast, and catfish fried in really old the grease. The breakfast potatoes are just frozen potatoes tossed in the Five Guys Cajun fry seasoning. The food was cold. My other table mates didnt get their food until I had asked for a box. My 2 chicken wings came as 4 sports wings and definitely not fried hard and definitely after all the food had come out. This means that my food is in a box just as wings and two entrees arrive at the table for 2 people.
Don't bother asking to speak to the manager because he won't come to speak to you unless you physically walk up to him and leave him feeling embarrassed in front of the owner and owners father he was talking with outside of the establishment. The owner and his father are present during this madness but do not step in to help. Instead they came to the table blaming everyone under the sun instead of owning the faults in their own business. First it was the kitchen's fault, then the waitresses fault, but never their own fault for setting the success standards so low at their business that the kitchen that it was okay to serve what they thought was food.
Please ask the DJ to replace that blown out speaker. As a DJ, that is entirely unacceptable for the volume at which the music playing and can be damaging to ears. The DJ should also have a subwoofer instead of adjusting channels and levels on the speaker to attempt to increase the bass. Honestly, the establishment should have invested in an internal sound system to avoid things like this and should have a space for.the DJ that does not make you feel like the blown out speaker is sitting at your table.
Also, the father runs the Hookah offering at the establishment. No menus, no knowledge of how to service hookah, just vibes for sixty bucks. The man cut off the air supply to the coals, never came back and checked on the coals, but had enough time to sit up at the table and tell us about how the waitress should have gone into the kitchen and cursed out the chef about our food. Sir, THAT IS NOT HER JOB, IT IS LITERALLY YOU AND YOUR SONS JOB!
Like I said, if you have food, drinks, and music at home... Just stay there. Don't go here.
I really wish I could get my money back. BTW, none of us were ever actually shown our bill on paper. We were just told the total and had to pray that it was accurate. Feels a little...
Read moreI recently visited a spot called Brunch House while in Arizona. Being from Chicago, I'm definitely spoiled when it comes to good food, but I always try to keep an open mind when trying new places. That said, this was honestly one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve had.
Let me start with the good. The restaurant was very clean, which I always appreciate. The interior was beautifully decorated, and the atmosphere was perfect. The DJ was playing good music, and I truly enjoyed the drink I ordered. So in terms of vibe and aesthetics, Brunch House nailed it.
However, the food and service were a completely different story. To start, our waitress took 13 minutes to greet us. I timed it. Having been a server myself, I know the standard is to greet a table within 2 to 5 minutes—especially when the restaurant isn’t busy, which it wasn’t. That delay also meant our drink orders were slow to arrive. Normally I might let it slide, but the lack of attentiveness was noticeable and confusing.
Now, onto the food. I ordered the BH All American Combo and asked for sausage patties fried hard (a Chicago thing). What I got were soft, soggy patties that reminded me of the frozen Brown and Serve brand—very cheap-tasting. I could only stomach one.
I also requested my eggs scrambled hard, but they arrived runny. I asked for them to be redone or cooked more, and while the server said yes, it took another 15 minutes for the new eggs to arrive — after I noticed them just sitting on the counter while our waitress chatted with coworkers. When they finally made it to me, they still weren’t good. I only ate about half, which you can see in the photo I took.
I also ordered grits, but let the server know I don’t eat cheese—not on eggs, not on anything. So imagine my surprise when the grits came out with cheese all over them. The menu didn’t mention cheese, and I specifically asked for cheese to be avoided. Only after they were served did I get told that all the grits already have cheese mixed in, so there was no way to get them plain. At that point, they offered me extra toast instead—which took another 15 minutes, and only arrived after I asked the manager directly.
Lastly, I ordered a side of salmon croquettes. These were deep-fried in a very odd coating, almost like fried chicken? I wouldn’t have minded if they had flavor—but they were bland, dry, and just not good. I took one bite and sent them back. I’m used to the classic-style normal croquettes—pan-fried with some seasoning. This was something else entirely.
In total, I only ate the toast, half the eggs, and half of one sausage patty. That’s it.
I spoke with the manager, but the only item removed from my bill was the salmon croquettes. I still paid full price for a meal I couldn’t eat. I want to be clear—I understand people who finish their food and then try to complain, which is shady. This is not that. I genuinely couldn’t eat the food. It was the worst I’ve ever had.
As someone who’s worked in restaurants, I know what good service looks like and how to handle food concerns. I came in with very reasonable expectations. Sadly, Brunch House missed the mark on almost every level; except for cleanliness and vibes. I will give them that. I hope management doesn't disparage or argue with my honest and kind review and allows me to freely share my experience without being harassed or debated.
I sadly cannot recommend this place to visitors such as myself. I does suffer from the Atlanta brunch curse; brunch spots that feel like a vibe, but are not tasty. Go there for the yummy and great drinks, and maybe a little fresh fruit. But...
Read moreLawd bless it, let me start by saying it pains me to leave this review because I genuinely believe we need more black owned businesses and entrepreneurs in the valley! With that being said if we are to be here I want our quality to be superior PERIOD I don’t want us to just be anywhere I want us to be known and for excellence! With that being said let me tell you about my experience.
I went on a slow morning mid week and brought my beautiful little family and a friend and her son! There was a wonderful pleasant server who sat us down we where served our waters you know the basic beginnings atmosphere was wonderful clean music was playing we where told this was the premier breakfast spot in town!
The food we ordered was pretty basic pancake 2 red velvet waffles and the lamb chops per the server’s suggestion said that everyone orders and I might order 2 after eating! Said it’s so requested the increased price from marked on menu 38 now is 42.99!
After a decent wait the food begins to roll out presentation was wonderful however to be expected my lamb came last. So long that if my party didn’t begin to eat immediately their food would have been cold waiting on my meal to arrive!
Finally the moment I have been waiting for has arrived needless to say anticipation was high! First let me say it was in juice not gravy gravy is thick this was like colored water more like the consistency of an extract than anything! Had a sweet flavor to it.
3 ribs I ordered medium well to get the highest potential tenderness possible. Let me say about the lamb chops specifically for what you’re charging get quality cuts of meat might I suggest baiz market! Meat was a bit tough still for my liking. I bit was not a fan of flavor choice or tenderness of meat I passed to my wife for her to try as well. I also took a lamb and gave to my friend to try all of us shared the same look of just lack of quality!
I continue to try the grits which where warm and consistent however bland put some salt in that water! As well as my eggs where cold I’m sure from wait of lamb also had a sweet flavor to them from juices of lamb running onto them! (Plating issue) also was served cold dry toast.which says kitchens cooking order is off!
Lesson to the chef start with your meat and anything needing to be boiled and prepare eggs and breads last for optimal freshness!
My biggest issue with this establishment beyond all that I’ve have taken the time out my day to mention is that.
-we had a party of 3 adults 1 kid (6) 2 kids (2) 1 infant we got a service charge of 17.00 how sway when you served 4 meals giving six water classifies us as a gratuity size group interesting.
-quality of food skip the preparation the actual quality of food choice! I know we on the south side but your price says you should be up in Scottsdale or north phoenix somewhere. You just know that lack of quality is not gonna resonate out that way! Especially with your prices people ain’t going for that!
-lastly your choice in management I’m all for equal opportunity however you must have standards somewhere! My server was my manager tattooed from eyebrow to knuckle and when my wife spoke to him about meal suggested a 5% reduction of price! I felt like I was in an episode of the Chappell show!
needless to say vast improvements need to be made to make the customer experience better. When that happens I would like to return a patronize I think this place definitely has potential to be a gem...
