This is just what I have been hoping for - an upscale, spacious, welcoming community gathering place with a relaxing vibe that serves terrific food at good prices. All this in an appetizing environment and look at those mountain views not to mention the mountains of creamy gelato that will whet your appetite as you walk up to order at the counter. First I need to say let nothing said of the negative in any other review here cause you to even hesitate to visit the Wood Fired Pizza on 32nd and Shea. It is a wonderful stop and so much more. I had the lucky luck to walk in unaware on their first day or second of operations and they were still working out the kinks yet everything was terrific- I can only imagine that others carried their bad experience in with them. The kale salad, pizza, gelatos, brownies and an old fashioned, a best next to my first one and that one was prettily done but the one my server hostess Madison made here for me was layered so nicely with flavors I thoroughly enjoyed it and told her so. She admitted it was the first she ever made! Beginners luck? No! She is good at hostessing, cashiering and making old fashions and small talk too. Thank you. On to the foods, I've since been back for happy hours and sampled many things and loved them all. Bruschetta piled with chopped fresh vegges marinated in light oils and drizzled with a balsamic like snap of something. A secret recipe for sure. The pomodoro that is so prevalent in their dishes like the spaghetti and meatball plate I had tonight has a freshly rubbed basil and peppery oil on tomato flavor I adore. It doesn't taste like the pizza down the street or my mothers sauce and I'm glad. I've had those, this is something different and I enjoy it's originality. I hope you will to. What a bore if all the restaurants were the same. All the of food is fresh, hand selected by the owner or chef of the kitchen. Thank you. Your love of the food shows in every dish served. I feel like I am eating in the kitchen of a good friend when I eat here and it is quickly becoming my go to place for comfort foods. Cauliflower, cannolli, margherita pizza or build your own pizza, happy hours when you can try many dishes it's so affordable, such is the list of things on the menu you might have a hard time deciding. I did. So it keeps me coming back. Don't forget to save room for GELATO! Pictures next time I'm there,...
Read moreGelato is a really cool creature - it's silky smooth & kinda has the consistency of Italian Ice, only it's creamy too, like custard, despite having no eggs in it. They have their recipe up on the wall. They have fruit & creamy flavors, & SEVERAL DELICIOUS VEGAN OPTIONS as well - I've added scoops to my order, & yes, they're very yummers!! You're gonna spend a little over $12 for TWO people ordering a THREE SCOOP cup - so you get an idea of the price 😇 This shop is right on the corner of 40th St & Greenway - it's very easy to see from the road & has a Starbucks attached to it...PARK in the big parking lot, as you're also now in a mini shopping plaza...walk in through/around outdoor seating & through the doors. Yay!!! Sometimes this place is very crowded, but around night time closing, they're not!... Which is when I go. The floor is clean, the display case is too, the staff is very nice, happy, & bubbly, who will offer you samples, lots of samples if you just wanna try before you buy. There's fluffy chairs & tables w/ half "booth chairs" & then normal chairs - so several comfy places to chill. You can buy little scoop cups for here/to go, w/ cookies stuck in them & teensy neon colored plastic spoooooooons! Haha you can buy gelato cakes in the freezer where other desert/fancy things are, & bigger tubs/pints of gelato, too (those things are hella expensive - like Cold Stone Creamery prices - gelato is EXPENSIVE, but yummy & smooth!!!!) The bathroom is really really nice & I took pics, lol.
For an ice cream treat that's not dairy cream, lol TOTALLY I recommend The Gelato Spot!
UPDATE!! - 17JUN18 - Visited today, which was great cause Phoenix is waaaaaarrrrmmmm & humid! New flavor for curious & adventurous folk, CUCUMBER W/ LEMON! Omg it basically knocked the air outa my lungs! It's light, fluffy, heavily flavorful, refreshing, but also super weird & trippy. Gelato Spot is always experimenting & offering new flavors, from themselves or...
Read moreLack of consistency! I know the place is new and they have to shake things out but its past time now. Each time (4) we have been there something has been less than desirable. First time I ordered meatballs they were served cold. How they melted the cheese and hot sauce and the meat was still cold is a puzzle. Next time the meatballs were hot but at best the pizza was warm. We had an order of garlic bread that was terrific but it didn't come until our meal was almost over. Third time everything we ordered came out piece mill, first pizza, then spaghetti, then garlic bread which was absolutely terrible. -the cheese on top was melted just a little but basically it was cold and the bread wasn't even toasted.. So tonight we got an order to go - Spaghetti and pizza. I was shocked that my order was ready to go in about 5 minutes but then I got home. The spaghetti was nice and hot but the pizza was stone cold. I only live about 8 blocks away and there is no way a pizza would get that cold that fast. And by there way everywhere I have had margarita pizza it has tomatoes on it. Have yet to see a tomato? We are so happy to be getting some nice eating places in the 32nd street area but this is a big disappointment. I agree with the other comments about the young folks running the place seem to have a don't care attitude. I'm going to give then a few weeks to get their act together and then give them one more try. If not better than it will be an occasional gelato and that's it. Never had a bad...
