From the anime decor, to the amazing food, I just can't say enough about this place. Friendly staff that helped with menus and ordering as they are through an online app due to covid. I would honestly like it to always be like that as it was super convenient.
The place itself is clean with bright colors, comfortable seating, and a tv was playing music videos loud enough to hear but not so loud I couldn't easily hear conversation at my table. My favorite part was the anime stuff on the walls, especially the one piece wanted posters.
Now for the food, which honestly this was the best place I have ever had ramen. And I have had ramen from most middle shops around the Phoenix area. The pork was super tender, the noodles cooked just right, the egg was soft-boiled so it floated in the broth perfectly, and the broth was just an amazingly creamy(for ramen) delight that I drank all of once I was finished.
Really if you want ramen, come to this place. We also had takoyaki, which was a version from a different area of Japan so it had more of a barbeque type sauce than the mayo based sauce I'm used to. Still very good though! My wife had a royal milk tea that was rich and delicious.
The person who was either manager or owner also gave my toddler a little pouch of japanese cookies which just made her day.
I plan to come here often and make my way through the whole menu. This is probably going to be my go to spot for...
Read moreI went in with the intent of getting ramen, but when I saw curry on the menu, I knew I had to give it a shot.
Years ago, I served in the US Navy and was stationed in Yokosuka Japan, the place where Japanese sailors first brought curry back from overseas, and as a local described it, where they "perfected it."
So, long story short, I've had the best curry in the world, I know what good Japanese curry tastes like.
The Katsu Curry literally brought a tear to my eye. Mostly because they provided chili oil on the side to add some spice and I ate quite quickly, but also because it conjured up wonderful memories from almost 20 years ago. I felt like I was back in Yokosuka and much much younger.
The flavors and textures are authentic Japan, but will be accessible to an American palate. It's traditionally eaten with a spoon, so even the utensils will be familiar.
I can't promise that this curry will fill you with youthful nostalgia, that's probably due to my specific life experiences, but it will fill you up.
Make sure to bring a smartphone as they use an online menu and ordering system.
The service when I visited was rapid, and assuming that's typical, this might be a very good choice for a short...
Read moreI KNOW! The picture looks unappetizing! But I assure you this one one of the most delicious bowls of ramen I've had. Origami has been a consistently reliable place for delicious ramen. I am no ramen snob, at least, not in the traditional sense. I haven't been to Japan so I make no claim to the authenticity of the ramen served here. But I can tell you that it is delicious compared to most other bowls of ramen I have received at other establishments. I have been particularly fond of the rich Miso and spicy Rich miso and now recently the Japanese curry ramen. It is a real shame that this is a limited time menu option. The flavors were so well balanced and complimentary. I hope I have a chance to try it one last time when my wallet recovers from dropping $20 on a bowl of ramen. The atmosphere is fine and definitely geared a little towards weebs. Service is average. Everyone is pleasant but it is a little hands off which is perfectly fine with me. As I kind of hinted before The bowls of ramen which are in my opinion The best choices are fairly expensive. I would definitely recommend this for treating yourself to a good bowl of ramen when you have some extra...
