We've been going to snooze for a long time, probably at least 3 years. It's our go to place for breakfast and brunch in the area. The hosts and servers are awesome--I don't think we've had a rude one yet. I love the outdoor area and the bar area-both are fun, depending on your preferences. The music is usually modern, but not aggravating. I love all the t-shirts they have! I should have snagged a pride one when I had the change several months back. It's usually bright and sunny in the restaurant, which is nice when sitting down for breakfast or brunch.
Now....wait times. They are often long, but really, for breakfast or brunch on the weekend, who isn't? What I like about snooze is that you can check in online to reserve your spot and they will text you when you're next. That way, you don't have to wait in the crowded and extremely loud restaurant the whole time, or bake in the sun outside.
While I do enjoy the servers and service and the restaurant itself is great, the noise level is just out of this world---it is sometimes too much, and we don't even bother talking. I don't know how that problem would be fixed at all, but it is a factor in deciding whether or not we should go sometimes, so its fair to mention it, especially if you have babies or neurodivergent family members. That's where the star off for atmosphere came from.
Food...I would say food used to be 5 stars, but bumped down to 4 probably 9 months ago or so. It just feels like sometimes, someone drops the ball. Sometimes it's a little baby drop and the hashbrown's just aren't very hot or crispy, or they forgot to bring the orange juice or the toast. Other times, the food comes very late, or the pancakes don't taste like they were mixed quite enough, things like that. I also wish they had more gluten free options. Different GF pancakes, for example, GF French toast, GF waffles, that kind of thing. Otherwise, the food is still consistently good, the coffee is great, and the orange juice is delicious.
I've had some very sweet servers, too. I was in eating a lone one day, after a particularly hard few days. I answered my server honestly when she asked how I was (oops). After I was done eating, she brought over a little plate of specialty pancakes on the house, because she wanted to cheer me up. So nice.
All in all, despite some drawbacks on noise level, crowding, and the occasional food flop, we still go back to Snooze often and...
Read more3rd Update: Minus one star. I was hoping to add another star to this review if Snnoze could repeat my good experience detailed in the 2nd update (below). No such luck. This is the problem with not fixing the root cause. Hash Browns should be BROWN and crispy and nobody wants giant chunks of corned beef in the hash. I should not have to explain how to prepare the food, as it is hit or miss if it actually happens.
2nd Update: Added another 1 stars based on my latest experience. To get crispy hash browns, you need to order them "flat and crispy" and to avoid giant chunks of corned beef hash, request that they break it up. I did this, and the food was good again. Why soggy hash-browns and giant chunks of corned-beef is the standard is a mystery. My wife's scramble was still warm, so this was another improvement.
Update: Added one star back because someone from Snooze contacted me and made a promise to improve and to try to make things right. I will wait a couple weeks to see if the food improves, and will update this review accordingly.
Original review: Loved the food at the Gilbert Snooze, but now I live out here. My go-to dish is corned beef hash with a side of hash-browns, but after being disappointed several times, I complained to the manager. I explained that the hash browns are always soggy instead of crispy, and the corned beef hash is also soggy with giant chunks of meat. They need to break-up the meat before they cook it, and cook it crisp.
I was a bit surprised when he said they changed the recipe, and this is how they make it now. I'm sorry, but hash BROWNS are supposed to be brown, not white and soggy, and nobody wants to eat giant chunks of corned beef in their hash.
My Wife complains that her eggs are often cold, and the one time we ate on the patio, it was filthy and covered with ants. It feels weird giving Gilbert Snooze 5-stars, and giving this location 1-star, but I can't eat here anymore. That combined with the lame response and indifference from the manager earned this Snooze the...
Read moreJust returned from a fabulous brunch at Snooze with my family. The restaurant itself was bright, cheerful, neat, and all the staff were friendly. Our lattes could have been more artfully presented, but the espresso and foam were otherwise on point. When they arrived (which was promptly) our meals were lovely: my vegetable frittata with arugula and pesto was delicious and the vegetables were just the way I prefer them, neither raw nor overcooked; my sister's blueberry danish pancake was a lovely balance between tart and sweet; and my brother's hash was the perfect crispness. In addition, we really appreciated the attention given to sustainability at Snooze: there were no plastic straws (the paper ones worked just fine) and the food was responsibly sourced (all the eggs were cage-free, and the restaurant's farms and community partners are listed on the back of each menu). Knowing that our meal was fresh, non-factory farmed, and more sustainable than most made it that much more pleasant and enjoyable. Thank you Snooze for your conscientious business practices!
Aside from the food, our server Kelly also provided us with something I've sorely missed since moving to California: excellent, sincere service. She listened well, inquired about condiments when she took our order and brought it with our meal, refilled our waters several times, checked twice to see if anything further was desired, and deftly yet differentially processed the bill. We had everything we needed, yet I couldn't recall her ever interrupting our conversation. She was attentive but not ingratiating, obsequious yet unobtrusive, and consequently gave great service throughout the meal.
Overall we had a wonderful experience. I'll definitely come back during my next...
