YumBar is just what I have been looking for in Melrose. A casual, fun, upbeat place to grab a bite or cocktail. The entire concept of the Royale - with multiple business sharing a common courtyard space is really great. You can get a bite to eat, listen to some music, get a coffee at Window and now get ice cream at Licks, or is it Lix? Also you can shop at the gift and flower shop, and even get your haircut and why not stop by Scott Kirby photo and set up a photoshoot. And there are more businesses coming. But back to Yumbar.
I love the service - the staff is super super friendly - from Dane the manager to Sasha, Elliot, Ivan, Gabriel, David, Jonelle, Ernesto, Alex, Fabian, Jordan and More! Some of these lovelies I know from other places - and so glad they have found a new home!
I have tried many menu items - my favorite is the Spinach Artichoke dip with a secret to add bacon suggested by Dane. The yum burger is just what it sounds like - yum. I have also had some of the pressed sandwiches, the chicken club is my favorite.
Most days I will just park at the bar to get a bit as I am alone, but also there is great seating inside and out. I attended Drag Brunch this past Sunday and it was really entertaining with the always hysterical Barbra Seville. Tyra Marie was beautiful as always and Chardonnay can dance the house down.
The Sunday Funday from 1-5 on the patio seems to be the new go to Sunday spot - get there early for a good table - but as well there is lots of seating inside. They have a dj and it is a vibe. Parking is plentiful along the side streets - but if you can ride share it helps everyone! I hope this place is around for years to come - please support our local businesses, or we won't have them!
By the way - as Reese Witherspoon says in SWEET HOME ALABAMA - "you've got a baby, in a BAR". But to be clear - this place is kid friendly - there's plenty of seating on the patio during brunch away from the drag show if you want to bring the kiddos. I saw many families and they have a kids menu. Talk about serving the...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of organizing the most significant event ever for our nonprofit, the PGFFL, at Yumbar in the Royale Phoenix. We hosted an astounding 205 players for our year's kickoff, and the experience was nothing short of phenomenal, thanks to the Yumbar team. First and foremost, I must commend the Owner, Mark, for his exceptional leadership and commitment to ensuring our event was a success. His attention to detail, proactive communication, and willingness to go above and beyond set the tone for the event. Mark's dedication to excellence was evident in every aspect of our experience, from the initial planning stages to the execution of our opening ceremony. Supporting Mark, Dane, and Jarick showed outstanding leadership and organizational skills that significantly contributed to the smooth running of our event. Their ability to manage the logistics, cater to our members' needs, and maintain a high level of service throughout the event was remarkable. They were always available, approachable, and ready to assist with a smile, making our members feel welcomed and valued. The staff at Yumbar, under the guidance of Mark, Dane, and Jarick, went above and beyond to accommodate our large group, ensuring everyone was taken care of with the utmost professionalism and kindness. Read moreMy wife and I have been pretty excited about this place for a while. When you hear the Fez folks are building a restaurant, it comes with some degree of hype. We went here a few days after it opened, and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that the hype is real.
My wife and I arrived first thing Saturday morning and were the first customers. Our waiter, Jeremy, immediately seated us and had drinks ready to roll. Jeremy was super attentive, friendly, and prompt with service. He was great.
Speaking of great, let’s get to the food. I ordered a Bagel Egg sandwich with bacon, a side of hash browns, and a mimosa. My wife ordered the Pesto sandwich with sausage and a Bloody Mary. 10/10 on both fronts.
I had my reservations about the Bagel Egg. I mean, cream cheese on a breakfast sammy sounds a bit odd IMO. I’m happy to report that I was dead wrong on that front. The sandwich was incredible. The bacon added a nice texture/smoky juxtaposition, and the eggs were cooked to perfection.
My wife said her meal was phenomenal as well.
The overall ambiance was also something worth noting. The inside was bright, colorful, and really provided a fun, mid-century, Miami-style vibe, compete with a flamingo motif in the outside patio area.
Seriously cannot say enough great things about this place. Get in while ya can, cause this place will eventually be poppin all day. Sorry about the...
