Tropical Sno — Restaurant in Phoenix

I saw this place on my way home so I Decided to stop and get a nice cool treat for this hot weather.

Service was excellent from the young lady working the booth. No complaints with the interaction.

Great concept with lots of different options.

I decided to go with mango pineapple sno.

Which looked really good and refreshing but here is the reason for the 1 star.

Whenever I order from any established that serves food or drinks. I look at the cleanliness of how they handle the food and drinks.

After I paying with cash and receiving my change from her.

I noticed she didn’t wash her hands. She started moving shaved ice with her hand. Thinking she was going to clean the leftovers of the previous drinks. Maybe wash hands after but no.

She literally tilted my cup and started catching the ice from the machine in her hand and placing in my cup. No gloves or washed before touching the ice.

2nd issues was to watch her refill one of the syrup I believe it was the mango. As she proceeded to refill the bottle. She dropped the pouring spout. Which rolled on the dirty ground. She picked it up and just placed it in the bottle and proceeded to make my drink. She didn’t even wash that before placing into the bottle.

I threw my drink away. It looked good but couldn’t tell you if it was good.

Unfortunately I will not be going back due to the dirty operations.

The chance of seeing fruit flies in the syrup...

I was extremely upset at how we were treated tonight when ordering sno cones. We arrived at 8:54PM clearly while they are still open and the girl had an immediate attitude. It made me so uncomfortable. As someone who has also worked in the food industry, I would NEVER make someone feel like that when it’s MY JOB. She already started making both the sno cones and my boyfriend let her know we wanted ice cream in ours. Again, more attitude and irritation from her. We come here frequently and have for years. I’ve never had an encounter like the one I had tonight. Both sno cones were done in less than 5 Minutes. The window was closed already by 9:00PM I can imagine that pre closing was already done and the amount of time it takes to close that place down, I can’t see it being past 9:30. Regardless, this employee is extremely unprofessional, has terrible customer service skills, and should really see this as a learning opportunity to treat paying customers with respect regardless if there’s 6 minutes...

I've been coming to this little shaved ice hut for most of my life. When the temperature hit 100 and up, my friends and I would grab our bikes, go play around in the highway construction zone (shhh...don't tell the parents!) and cap a long, hot day of mischief with Tropical Sno! It was always affordable, they always had high schoolers working their first jobs that were friendly to us kids despite the lack of A/C, and the flavor combos were the best anywhere.

I don't think I've seen such a collection of syrups to this day...well, maybe at Macalpine's, but that's it. The ice is still soft, the cream is still a great addition, the kids working there are still friendly, although there's A/C now.

And I just saw a family with a couple boys, about the same age as I was once, haggling over flavors and debating the best choice.

This place isn't just for shaved ice. It's a community fixture - the kind every kid deserves to have nearby. I invite you to stop by on a summer day at sunset. I...
