I come here often, but I think my most recent visit will be my last. At least at this location. Food is good. Never had an issue with flavor or anything of that sort. The issue is the only time I can guarantee my order is right is if I go through the drive-thru. Which takes a while, understandably. Because I know the drive thru takes a while, I pre-order through the app, or DoorDash. Usually there’s only minor issues with my order. Most common is my sides of ranch are missing, or my salad dressing is on the salad even though I requested it on the side. One of these two things happen almost every time, which again isn’t really a reason for me to leave a negative review.
Today though, I ordered on the app and pulled up to the curbside pick up. I got a text saying my order was ready, but when the lady came out she took the order to the other car parked in the curbside area. The car was there before me so I though ok cool I’ll give them a couple minutes to come out with mine. Maybe 5 minutes later they went back to the other car with more bags, and proceeded to take the bag they first gave them back. The lady went inside for maybe another 5 minutes and when she came back, I swear she had the same bag she took back from the other car. I actually asked her if that was the same bag, and she said “I don’t think so”. I’m not confrontational so I didn’t push it further, but I’m positive she gave me back the same bag of food the other people had. Their bags usually come pretty crisp, but this one was crinkled. That’ll happen when putting it in and out of a car window multiple times. As I drove off I thought to check the temp of the food. It wasn’t hot, just slightly warm. Another indication it cooled off while the other people had it.
If you make the poor decision to come here, make sure you go through the drive-thru, but you’re probably better off just going to...
Read moreI have been a Habit Burger Grill enthusiast for many years. But as the old axiom goes... they ain't what they used to be.
I began eating at The Habit restaurants in Northern and Southern California around 2010. Then, every location was always packed, the menus were simple, and the burgers were excellent.
Restaurants have a tendency to be trendy or popular, and then, all of a sudden — not so much. That's were I think The Habit is in the current marketplace. Well, at least the locations in greater Phoenix. I haven't been to any of the locations in in California for eight years. So, I don't know if the chain is on a decline there as well.
A couple of weeks ago, I was in Scottsdale and decided to have lunch at The Habit in the Promenade on Frank Lloyd Wright and Scottsdale Boulevards. To my disappointment, the restaurant had permanently closed.
So, I drove to the nearest Habit at 4045 E Bell (near the 51 Freeway). Talk about location, location, location. This Habit took a BIG STEP DOWN from an upscale Scottsdale shopping center to a run-down old strip mall in a somewhat blighted area of Phoenix.
Anyway, The Habit on East Bell Road is not a burger place I would likely revisit or recommend.
The restaurant's interior was not inviting, the seating mediocre, and the lighting was not upbeat like other Habit Burger Grills. Plus, the "strip mall" views out the windows, definitely took away from the dining experience.
The burger was "okay," but nowhere near the quality and tasteful experience of The Habit Burger grills of just five years ago.
My evaluation may sound a bit "snooty," but it is actually not. Simply, if your are paying $12 to $15 for a burger lunch: (1) the restaurant should be in a "nice" location; (2) the place should have a warm and inviting interior; (3) the food should be exceptional and WORTH...
Read moreI’m from Santa Barbara, CA where the original Habit Burger restaurants opened and ran for years. The quality of their food is phenomenal and I’ve eaten there countless times growing up. This specific location is an absolute disgrace to the brand. I’m aware that the owners ended up selling to Yum! Brands who own Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, etc.
We purchased two charbugers, they charged us extra for processed American cheese. The original locations give you an option to choose real slices from pepper jack to American and several others. I’m almost positive the location in Tempe offers this but I have a strong suspicion all of them now use processed cheese slices.
The young girl who took our order had a really hard time understanding no pickle, no tomato, no Mayo on one char burger and no pickles and no Mayo on the other charbuger. When we said what the first order was, she cut us off and said, “Is that all?” And apparently we didn’t reply fast enough because very quickly she said, “your total is …” My husband replied, “no I would like to order too.” We did use the drive thru.
I was so excited to enjoy a slice of home right here in Phoenix until I opened my food and our burgers were totally smashed and mushed together. The cheese was on everything but the patty. The onions were completely BLACK, entirely burnt, and the buns were smashed. Both burgers were in the perfect shapes of an oval.
This was an extremely disappointing experience at this location and if you look at other locations around the valley, they all have 4.5 stars or more. The quality of their food and service was just awful. I will never return here again. I may give another location a shot but...
