I visited this restaurant on Saturday, 3/25/23 at around noon. We ordered Okra and fufu, The West Hut with Chicken and Jollof rice option. Palm Wine, side of plantain, yam fried etc
Rated this place 3 stars due mostly to service and in my opinion (I am Liberian American), the food was lacking in flavor! Please note that being West African myself, I can practically make most items on their menu so my expectations are extremely high. I think most non Africans would find this food tasty.
However, the restaurant is clean, nice and beautiful, modern. The menu is simple and well thought out. Their prices are reasonable. The cocktail menu is exciting, but actual drinks were grossly lacking. I don’t think there was an actual bartender when we were there.
The service was very very slow, food came out separately for each of us, one was almost 10 minutes apart. We asked for two protein options, Goat and Shrimp. I assumed would come with my Okra I ordered, but the shrimp came out 10 minutes after I had eaten most of my Okra and fufu. We also struggled to get some hot pepper which for an African cuisine should be readily available. The Jollof rice was just okay, decent flavor, Okra was bland and fufu was overly soft.
Due to slowness in service I completely forgot to take pictures of the food before diving in. Sorry for the lack of food images. I got good ones of the place though.
I am always excited and very supportive to see and try African owned businesses. I will go again to this restaurant and hopefully next time service...
Read moreOrder fufu and spicy goat meat with spinach soup. Order came with red sauce and no spinach. Talked to waiter about the order missed up. She went back and get us a side order of spinach with egusi that includes muchroom. The pepper soup was a concotion of oil, boiled goat meat and sauce. Not a typical setup for western african fufu and stew sauce. The bill came to about $91 ( less tips) for me to notice that i was been charged $9 for the spinach soup. There is room for improvement on this establishment but owner need to work on the food been served the customer. I have hard much better fufu and goat meat from other similar establishments. I will not recommend business based on my dinning experience.
Today is 05/07/2024. I did not ask for extra per your response below. I only requested for the waiter to rectify the error on the order. Any other business will have easily fix this mistake. Did the waiter tell the customer that the vegetable will be a cost adder at $9? I see you're trying to protect your business without addressing the customer complain or concern on your reply below. If this is about the cost, will i still leave her a tip after the food i was served at your establishment??? How do you address the red sauce coming out as a concotion of boiled...
Read moreWe came here for dinner. Great music, comfortable atmosphere. Service was very friendly. Our first waitress was ending her shift while we were there; she made sure to stop by our table to let us know someone else was taking over. We ordered the beef patty as a starter. Great flavor! Then I ordered the west hut with chicken. It was served with sweet plantain, salad, and I added the jollof rice. Chicken was a little over but had great flavor. The jollof rice was delicious! It was a little spicy and was of great texture. The rest of the sides matched well with the dish. My boyfriend ordered the spicy goat soup. He was warned of how spicy it was and she was not exaggerating. Luckily he likes spicy dishes and he said the flavor was rich. He did wish there were more goat pieces in the soup but says the little pieces that he got had good texture. He ordered it with a side of fufu but wished he had the rice after trying mine. We are not sure what fufu is supposed to taste like but there wasn't much flavor to it. I also ordered the Sobolo drink; it was sweet which I enjoyed. My only issue was the price, it was expensive. Next time we come, we will likely order one dish to share. Overall it was a great place for dinner and we would...
