First off, I extremely regret not eating at Piola's sooner! I had always heard great things but was turned off because it was a chain---don't make the same mistake as me! Located in Suniland, a door down from Flannigan's, parking does get somewhat busy since there are so many popular businesses in this shopping center. I came with my boyfriend on a weekday to try out their lunch special that had peaked my interest. They have a Mezzo & Mezzo deal for $11.95 which allows you to get half salad (or minestrone) with half a pasta or pizza. They also have select full-portioned salads, soups, pastas and pizzas offered at a lunch special price (the most expensive item only being $12.95).

I decided to try their Mezzo & Mezzo deal and ordered the minestrone with their Capricciosa pizza: ham, sauteed mushrooms and artichokes. My boyfriend ordered from their full portion lunch menu the Penne Cividale $9.45: prosciutto crudo, cream, reosemary, diced tomatoes, and grated Parmesan. The minestrone I received was huge and delicious-----all very fresh ingredients and an authentic recipe. I loved it. My half pizza was also a lot larger than expected (more like a full size flatbread); the topping were top notch! The crust of my pizza was also perfect by being thin and crispy so I can't wait to try their other pizzas! My boyfriends pasta was also a large portion, the creamy sauce and bold flavors true to Italian cuisine! We absolutely loved our meals and though we were pretty full decided we had to try one of their desserts because of how much we loved our entrees. We went with their tiramisu which again was amazing!

I can't rave enough about how perfect our lunch here was; the service was also top notch and attentive. I will most definitely be back for more and will be telling friends that live in Pinecrest that this trendy restaurant is a must...

i never write reviews but the food here was so bad i felt like i need to. first of all, we arrived and it took at least 5 minutes to get our menus. we were the only guests in the restaurant. then, we ordered a caprese salad, gnocchi, and margarita pizza. there were several flies flying around us and our food once the food arrived. the caprese salad had about 5 pieces of tomato and no basil whatsoever. they also charged us extra balsamic when there was almost none on the plate as is. the margarita pizza was a cheese pizza with one piece of basil ripped into 3 on top of it. it was mediocre and not a margarita pizza. finally, the gnocchi was one of the worst dishes i have ever had at a restaurant. when it arrived at the table, what immediately struck me was how thick and bubbly the sauce looked. it looked like the sauce was not done cooking. it tasted so bland, i added salt, oregano, red pepper, and cheese and nothing could make it better. the sauce was powdery and thick and made me nauseous while i was eating it. it has been hours since i ate it, and i’m still feeling naseous and sick to my stomach thinking about what i just consumed. i don’t know if it was just a one time thing, since i was really excited to eat the gnocchi after seeing pictures and reading the description but what i received at this restaurant was such a bad experience all around. server was kind...
