So I am ambassador level with Marriott. I am Staying at the Vespera hotel and thought I would have dinner at Pequin with my partner. Been here 3-4 times and always found the food and service to be inconsistent, though sometimes pretty tasty. So we went down to the restaurant and there was a twenty minute wait. I’m ok with that although the host told the people behind us it was only a 10 minute wait. Curious! We were seated in about 30 minutes then was walked to our table in the outdoor area. We waited for about 15 minutes for the waitress to take our drink and dinner order. We ordered an appetizer, salad and the pork chops. The drink came right away! So then we started the wait. 20 minutes went by and not once did someone check with us. So I thought I would set my timer on my phone to see how much longer we would half to wait. And then we waited, and waited and waited more. Another 45 minutes went by and still nothing, no appetizer, no salad, not even a check-in. About that time I witnessed two waitresses fight over a plate of food that just came from the cook! Some of the food fell on the floor. I stood up and asked my partner if she minded leaving. So we stood up and waved our waitress over. She saw us and ran over to us. We asked her to cancel our dinner. She gave us an unbelievable apology and turned away. I then went to the front desk to complain and they didn’t seem too concern. So much for an ambassador level with Marriott! Very disappointing experience this trip. I'll definitely be eating someplace different the rest...
Read moreI made reservations for the Mother's Day Brunch Experience and was very disappointed. We arrived for our reservation and the lady who seemed disoriented said they ran out of food so we would have to order off the lunch menu. This should have been our first red flag to leave. A manager came over and repeated what she said. Even though I had made a reservation for the experience. They sat us outside because they told us there was heaters as we got outside the waitress just said "oh the heaters are off" but never took the time to turn them on or offer us a seat inside. We waited about ten minutes for our server to come and ask for our drinks. And waited maybe another ten minutes before we got anything. We asked if our appetizer would come first because at this point it was almost 45 minutes of just sitting there but they said all the food was put in at the same time so they would all come out at the same time. Our food finally came and it was mediocre especially considering the cost of the food. Food also tasted like it was cooked in old oil. I also asked for a drink and the waiter never came back to check if we wanted refills or anything else at all. I eventually, after waiting 30 minutes after we finished eating, went inside to ask if they could bring us a check because no one bothered to come see if we were done. Needless to say it was far from the brunch I was hoping to have to treat my mother. NOT WORTH THE MONEY! I highly recommend you DO NOT visit...
Read moreWe have a vacation property in Pismo Beach and always look for new places to dine; rarely do we go to "touristy spots" as we don't enjoy the crowds or mediocre food. Since it was "low season", we decided to try a place down by the Pier, that we had never been to.
The venue was spacious and well-appointed, though virtually empty (good). Daniel was our server, and he was friendly and professional. Though the menu had fewer selections than anticipated, each was intriguing because of the contents.... I told my partner "this food is going to be good"! He was not so sure.. but with items such as "cilantro rice" and "microgreens" and "vegan enchiladas with harvested mushrooms", how could it not be... and it was GRAND! Distinctive and unusual flavors, cooked to perfection (NOT overcooked), presented with artistic flair......... Pequin is definitely one of the best places that I have dined at on the Central Coast, and I will visit them again.
Though there weren't many diners (January) the kitchen was busy preparing food for hotel guests (as noted by the carts/covered dishes).
Pequin also has happy hour from 3-6 at the bar, and there was live music when we were there. This was definitely a "happy surprise" that exceeded our expectations (and we found street parking half a...
