Tacos, Tequila, Whiskey !!!! Now that I got your attention...Bakersfield doesn't sound like a Taco Joint but it is. With multiple locations across the US, Bakersfield is renowned for its take on Mexican Street food. We stopped in at the downtown Pittsburgh location while attending a conference at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. I called ahead to get a reservation for our group and was fortunate enough to get a same-day reservation. Bakersfield is one of the busier places in the downtown core, so be smart and book ahead. It's decisively large than it looks from the outside with high ceilings, a massive bar, a patio, and a lower level to accommodate more guests. We sat at a large booth at the back of the restaurant and luckily, right beside the bar. We ordered drinks which included tequilas, whisky, and some craft beers. We then moved on to several apps, but the one that stood out the most was the Short Rib Queso, made with braised short rib, pickled white onion, crema, radish, queso fresco, and cilantro. This was interesting and very good, and we ended up ordering two of them for the table. next up for the main course, our table agreed on the Selecciones De La Casa which is marketing as a multi-course experience designed for parties of 6 or more and they charge$18 per person. The Meal was a hit as we all got to try various tacos from the taco menu and some other dishes. This was a great experience and if you are a Taco lover then give Bakersfield a shot.

My experience here was quite underwhelming. I was here early after work on a weekday and sat at the bar with my friend and ordered the grapefruit margarita. It was ok, a tad too sweet for my taste. As I looked at the menu, I had some questions about vegetarian options and asked the bartender if a certain dish was vegetarian. Our bartender that day was NOT in a good mood. He seemed annoyed that I had a question in the first place. He didn't even look at us and mumbled a response. I couldn't catch what he said, but a bit intimidated by his attitude, didn't ask him to repeat it. We ended up ordering the papas toastadas which tasted good. But by then, I needed my next drink! Uhoh.. time to get our pissed off bartenders attention again! I got the spicy margarita. Normally I love a kick to my drink but what I was served that day was undrinkably hot.. Sweet, but also really really hot. One sip had my lips, mouth and insides on fire. My friend, whose spice tolerance is much higher than mine felt the same way. We asked for water (much to our bartenders annoyance) and waited a whole 10 mins for it! By then the bar had gotten busier and I certainly didn't want to deal with the already grumpy bartenders attitude if I requested an adjustment to my drink. So, as a favor to my digestive tract, I left my entire drink untouched. Oh, we did order their two vegetarian taco options which tasted fine. But if it's tacos and awesome margaritas you're craving, I'd direct you to Täkō or Condado tacos, both of which are in the same area. Better cocktails, better tacos and the added benefit of not having to feel like you're getting on your server's nerves every time you order/have a request.

We heard great feedback and reviews on this restaurant and decided to stop here after an event. It was so very busy. We ordered a dip, salsa, guacamole, chips, drinks and one of each taco from the menu. The appetizers were delivered very fast but we were still waiting for our tacos. Soon, our excitement turned to disappointment. We noticed it was taking a while for food that day when we looked around the room. We asked neighboring patrons how long they had been waiting for food. Some had been there waiting for food as long as 45 minutes. We decided that we did not want to wait. We called the waitress over to cancel our order. The manager (wish I could remember his name) stopped over to our table and was so apologetic and completely amazing; transparent of some kitchen challenges experienced that night and let us know this was completely uncommon. We really appreciated that. Very top notch leadership there to come and do that. Thank you. You are the reason for the 3 star. We will certainly be back to give it another try in the near future and change my rating if it applies. 🌮🌮

Bakersfield has a great atmosphere every time I visit. I have visited the location several Times, and the food has been good every visit. If you’re in search of a good cocktail, then this is the spot. They offer special pricing for a different liquor each night of the week. So, there will always be happy hour on at least one of the liquors in the restaurant. The wait times are almost nonexistent once you are seated. If you order tacos, they’re usually at the table within 10 minutes. I’ve been a busy nights and not so busy, and the delivery time was almost the same. The waiters and waitresses have always been nice, and are good with keeping water and drinks refilled. If you’re in search of a nice place to dine with friends, family or to just network, then this is the spot. If the weather is nice, they offer outdoor seating. The location is in a cluster of restaurants, but they stand out with service. I would recommend this restaurant if you’re in the downtown Pittsburgh area.

Bakersfield helped in creating a special memory for us on our big day by hosting our wedding party for a lunchtime taco break between the ceremony and reception. Despite the busy weekend in Pittsburgh, they were able to provide us with a quiet, large space in their beautiful lower level. The tacos and drinks served were some of the best you'll find in Pittsburgh, contributing to a fantastic dining experience. The friendly service extended for special events added a personal touch to our wedding day. Bakersfield's ability to offer delicious food, a great atmosphere, and accommodating service made our wedding party lunch a highlight of the day. If you're looking for a venue with excellent food, a charming ambiance, and exceptional service for your special event, Bakersfield is the way to go. Our experience was memorable, and we highly recommend Bakersfield for any wedding-related celebration or gathering.

On a volleyball tournament weekend my daughter and I had dinner with some of her teammates here and there were couple of good thing about this place: 1) It's one of the few restaurants out there that have large booths for about 10 people (or even larger parties) 2) They were able to switch my reservation from 4 people originally to 9 people in a quick, easy way, so that goes to great service. 3) Food was good for the most part, try the Quesos as appetizers for sure, as they were the highlight of the night. Same goes for the Guacamole and Salsas Trio. Now on the negative side, unfortunately the tortillas in my tacos were cold when I got them, as if they came straight from the fridge (and I didn't have the time for sending the order back), otherwise I would have given this place 5 stars. I'll come back with no doubt anyway and give those tacos another try.
