My first time in Pittsburgh. Everything closes very early at about 8pm or 9pm. I’m use to places being open till 12am or 2am being from Florida. The food was great. The Street Corn Bowl is definitely my favorite. The tangy sauce was a nice balance of ranch / mayo and zest like. Very creamy. Very cheesy. The perfect amount of rice, chicken, beans, onions and cilantro. The portion is enough for two meals depending on your appetite. It’s enough for one person for sure. I highly recommend this dish. I forgot to take a picture of the other tacos I ordered. The purple haze / Ooey-gooey / Korean BBQ. Although I didn’t like any of the 3 tacos that doesn’t mean they weren’t good. For me they were a little spicier than I thought they would be. While the food was not bad by any means this is just my opinion based on my personal pallet preference. The purple haze was flavorful and tender. The sauce you can taste and it didn’t over power the flavor of the dish. However I am not a fan of red cabbage and unfortunately I didn’t finish the dish. I am not a fan of cabbage. The Korean BBQ was great. Succulent and moist pork. With a hint of sweet pineapple. Great combination for the sauce. For me I felt the sauce lingered too much and coated your mouth. Maybe a bit less heat on the dish. For that reason I was unable to finish the dish. The Ooey-gooey was also great. The consistency of the chicken was there. Not dry or over cooked. Very tender and moist. The beans cheese, onions and corn were very tasty. But again the dirty sauce got me. I love spicy food but the lingering spice eventually drowns out the flavors. I would order it again without the dirty sauce if possible. The Augua Fresca I felt was a bit too sour almost like straight up sour mix. I would probably skip it unless it had alcohol. But I will say the alcohol they make a well balanced house margarita. 10/10 The drinks are balanced and the serving is a little laid back but not slow. The quality of food and drink are spectacular and I would definitely recommend this place. The bathrooms were also really clean. All in all the most I spent was 15-25 bucks per visit and I went there 3 nights in a row. As I was in town for work and they were the only thing opened that late at night across the street from the venue. I may not have liked all the food but that doesn’t mean it was bad. The flavors are there. I love spicy but we all have our flavor preferences. The venue is small but the flavors are big. Don’t sleep on...
Read moreDuring our first visit to Pittsburgh we tried out a taco place near our hotel. The kids didn't want to go out for dinner, so we went somewhere that we would not usually go when with the kids. We were very excited upon entry to Condado as it screamed authentic Mexican food. Cool 2 floor set up, Big and bold colours and a very cool vibe. Our energetic server got us even more excited for our drinks and food. Then it all went downhill. Our order of guacamole and chips was cold. Maybe the chips were fresh at one time, but they were cold. I have never in my life had chilled gaucamole before. It was dark green, meaning to us, it wasn't fresh and was sitting in the fridge. Ok, drinks came. They were very good other than the odd flavour of sugar on the rims. We ordered 2 tacos each. I even asked our server to recommend the most popular ones. Then they came. We already had our guard up from the cold gauc, then the tacos came, presented in foil like they just came from the oven. They were cold. I mean oddly cold to touch. The tortilla was cold. All 4 tacos. We debated how weird it was. My wife took a bite and her face said it all. What was this? Now I have never sent food back in my life, I find it awkward. But this was supposed to be a special evening out - no kids - and we love tacos. I asked our server about the food - should they be cold, is this something they did? He said, only the salsa should be cold. BTW - why should salsa be cold?? Anyways, it was exactly what I hoped to avoid - awkward. The server was very defensive about the whole thing and finally instead of getting us new tacos, he took them back to be refired. That turned out to be microwaved cause we got the same tacos back and the inside was hot and the outside was still cold. We decided to move forward. I ate mine cause I was starving. The flavours were really good and I liked the double layering of the taco. We agreed if they were actually hot they would have been really good. My wife could not eat her second one due to temp, so we took it back to hotel. We ate it the next day heated up and you know what - it was also tasty warm. Maybe this was a one off experience? Maybe if we went back it would be different. I will admit, the place was pretty busy and nobody was eating tacos, it was all bowls. Maybe that's the trick - order something else? I don't know if I will be back in Pittsburgh again, but I know we won't be going back. It has given us a story to tell about the place that...
Read moreNice location downtown Pittsburgh. Upon entering, you end up, jammed up in a tight little vestibule, waiting for a person to seat you. Then more people try and walk in, making it worse. And then, people are also coming down the stairs, trying to leave through the same vestibule. Hostess finally appeared, pretty slow for a weekday, non busy time, and proceeded to take us upstairs to that seating area. Handrail was sticky and seemed to be lost in the cleaning of the place. That's if there was any. Table seemed like it was wiped down with a dry cloth at best, as evidenced by the stickiness and markings on the table. The server was nice and quick to the table and was accommodating as to answer questions about the food. Being one that can't stand the taste of cilantro (possible allergy), it really limited my selections of foods. They did have a nice allergy chart with major allergens and showing what foods contained certain items. After looking this over, we ordered the queso and chips and placed our meal order. Mind you, I only had a few possible choices because they use cilantro on just about everything. Maybe if you can't get good flavor, you kill it with cilantro. But whatever. The queso and cheese arrived and had an ok flavor, nothing great, but there were enough chips to have 3 more orders of queso, and i guess salsa must cost extra, so lots of wasted chips. I opted for a Blue Dream Taco and a chicken bacon ranch. Well, it was either cross contamination or not thoroughly covered allergen list, or server oversight, there was pieces of cilantro on the chicken bacon ranch taco. I tasted it immediately, opened it up, and found a few more small pieces. Ruined the taste for me, but whatever, I ate it. The Blue Dream was good but tasted very greasy. When I was finished, there was a puddle of oil/ grease on the plate. Evidently, this place is a chain restaurant with locations near me. And needless to say, I'm good, I'll not waste my time going to any of those. But if you like everything covered in cilantro, this may be the place for you, or maybe a different location if you...
