It is difficult for me to write this review with such a low rating, but bear with me. I want to preface by saying that I love the food from Dancing Crab - the flavors, spice levels, speed of delivery - it is all very good. Even though the dining room closes earlier in the evening, they continue to offer delivery late into the night. I have ordered delivery from them on a couple of occasions after 10:00-11:00pm. I have always been very pleased with how fast the food is made and delivered, always arriving earlier than the estimated time. Last night, my partner (who is a vegetarian) and I (I am not a vegetarian) decided to order delivery via UberEats as a treat after a long and exhausting week. We got a couple appetizers - spring rolls to share, fried tofu for her, chicken satay for me - and a noodle entree each - Pad See Ew with tofu for her, Pad Thai with chicken for me. Despite an estimated delivery time of 45-55 minutes, it was on my doorstep in only about 30 minutes, which was great! We each ate a couple bites of our appetizers before opening our noodle entrees. Immediately upon opening her Pad See Ew, we noticed that there was chicken in it, and no tofu. I checked my Pad Thai to see if they had somehow gotten mixed up, but no, I had chicken, as ordered. She was disappointed, having been looking forward to the noodles, but said she would be okay with just the spring rolls and fried tofu. Knowing that she had already had a rough week, I decided to re-order her Pad See Ew to surprise her. I left a very clear note on the "customer note" field (pictured in this review) in all caps asking for tofu, making it clear that they had already given chicken instead of tofu not one hour earlier. Once again, the service was incredibly quick, and the order showed up in about 35 minutes. The receipt on the bag clearly shows that I had ordered Pad See Ew with tofu, and the note in all caps was immediately below. I brought the food in, and she opened it up to find... chicken. Again. No tofu. Had the mistake only happened once, I would have passed it off as accidentally mixing up two orders of Pad See Ew due to a high order volume and simply accepted it. That being said, having the exact same mistake being made, not even one hour later, when it was the only item in the order, with a very clear note - that is unacceptable. Once again, it hurts to leave such a low rating, as the food is delicious, the service is incredible fast, and is available late at night, but because of the exact same issue happening twice in less than an hour, my partner was left with no entree to eat.
On both orders, I reported the item on UberEats, explaining the issue, providing pictures, etc. They passed it off with a simple "sorry" and provided a $5 uber credit each time (so, $10 total). This part is no fault of Dancing Crab - this is a bone I have to pick with Uber. Getting back $5 on a $20 item with such a major issue was a bit insulting, but I can't blame Dancing Crab for that as the order was facilitated through UberEats.
Had this issue not happened, the experience would absolutely be a 5/5 across the board without question for the several reasons I have listed. Unfortunately, I feel it necessary to bring up my concerns, and advise people to double check their food before they begin eating it to make sure that they actually received what...
Read moreI decided to order from Dancing Crab last night since they were open later and cheaper than Thai Me Up. Until last night I haven’t tried either, but chose Dancing Crab, so I’m not comparing the two. I tried ordering online but it wouldn’t let me add any items to my bag, so I just called the restaurant. Ordering was simple and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes for pickup.
Chicken Pad Thai, spice 6 Red Curry with Chicken, spice 6 Crab Rangoons
Red Curry with chicken was a 5/10. The flavor was certainly good, nothing exceptional, but the spice level seemed low for a 6. The dish was viscous, almost watery in consistency, and that’s not a dig at the flavor at all, but I thought the curry itself could’ve been a bit creamier in consistency. The vegetables in the curry were cooked at all different levels, some soft and fully cooked, some crispier than others. Not sure if that’s a positive or a negative but I didn’t mind it too much, it added some variety in the meal. The rice, however, was undercooked. I felt like the dish skimped on the chicken a little, but not too badly where it’s a problem. Overall I’ve had better and would’ve paid the $4-5 difference to have an excellent curry.
She gave her Chicken Pad Thai a 6.5/10. It seemed to have a healthy amount of chicken. She said her spice level seemed a bit low for a 6. I tried and agreed about the spice level. She said it was missing the lime, which changes the flavor.
Crab Rangoons were good. The wonton wrapper Dancing Thai uses is thinner and makes for a nice and crispy crab Rangoon where some restaurant will give you ones where they’re very hard and crunchy. Served with a duck sauce+ chili pepper flake tasting dip.
The prices are lower than other Thai restaurants in the area. My Red Curry included chicken for 16, whereas Red Curry can be 16.50 and an additional 4.00 for chicken at other places nearby.
Personally, I’d order here again if it was late or if I wanted to save a few dollars but truth be told I plan to spend the extra few dollars next time I order Thai and will try somewhere else. I probably will come back to Dancing Crab, too. If they offered deal like “spend 30 get spring rolls/rangoons free or spend $50 get small entree etc” or if prices were cheaper, like equivalent to Chinese food prices (14.00 entree) I would probably visit 2-3 times a month. Nothing wrong with Dancing Crab, just think it could be better but it’s certainly good for the value. I don’t eat takeout or even Thai food often so I don’t mind splurging when I do and would choose the more expensive option next time to ensure a 10/10 meal. If you eat Thai often I don’t see a reason this restaurant shouldn’t be in your rotation. Cheaper, open later, decent/solid but not outstanding. There’s a place for that in...
Read moreI was strolling down Carson Street at lunchtime today when it began to rain and I found myself standing outside of the Dancing Crab Thai Noodle House. Hungry for a delicious lunch I decided to pop in and check this place out. The decor is very clean, appropriate and comfortable. ( bathrooms were very clean too). The server was very knowledgeable of the menu and very nice! She might be the manager or owner, but either way did a fantastic job! Her recommendation was the drunken noodle dish with chicken. Intrigued by the unique name, I decided to give it a whirl. The spice scale is 1 through 10 so I felt very comfortable ordering a five. (I live a very average, middle of the road lifestyle.) I also added a Thai iced tea for good measure. A few short minutes later, when my dish arrived, I could not believe my senses. The sights and smells we’re beautiful and aromatic. Vivid green bok choy, hearty chunks of Napa cabbage, sweet onion, whole leaves of basil and aromatic bits of garlic, all paired with fresh flat rice noodles, were prepared with chicken so tender, it already seemed to be falling apart in the dish. (here’s where the drunken part comes in) As if this wasn’t enough to capture ones palette, a sauce so savory you could drink it, was flooding over the noodles and vegetables into a pool beneath. The tender chicken acted as a vessel to help get the Drunken sauce to the party in my mouth. If this doesn’t make you hungry by just reading it, just walking through the front door of the place while all of the delicious smells of all the meals being enjoyed fill the...
