A few of my friends mentioned how delicious the food was, so Moodz has been on my list for a while. 3 out of 4 of my Research Assistants are vegetarian and I wanted to take them out to lunch as a thank you for their work this semester, so this was the PERFECT place. The vegetarian/ vegan scene for food has improved in Pgh, but their choices are still always limited so they really appreciated that they could eat everything on the menu. It was cute because they kept asking me "Is this what chicken taste like? Is this what beef taste like?" All I could say was, no but it's pretty darn close. The portions are huge so we all left stuffed. We had plenty to share so we all tried a bit of everyone's food so in all I tasted the cheese fries, po boy, burger, and junk wrap. All were delicious and well seasoned. Thanks to someone canceling their online order, we got to try the cheese steak egg rolls too and that was also really good. They ran out of cheese sauce for the fries, so we had melted vegan cheese and they were good Will definitely return to try them with their real sauce. After having tried it, I actually think I preferred their version of a po boy over real oysters or clams. It was lighter and crunchier. Texture wise, pretty spot on to fried clam.
One of the owners was our server and she was extremely pleasant. Vegan or not, if you're in the mood for a fast food fix, this is the place. The two of us that weren't vegetarian didn't miss the meat at all. I was too full to eat the apple pie egg roll, so took it to go along with the other half of my po boy. I have to say, both tasted good even room temp a few hours later. Veggies or not, eating fried food everyday is no good, but this was such a nice treat. Thank you, will...
Read moreToday, May 25, 2025, I had Moodz, DoorDashed to my apartment. On top of the $4 tip, I gave the an extra $9 tip as I appreciated him coming to my door.
After receiving my order and tasting it, I was absolutely and immediately disappointed.
The mac n cheese was bland with a little burnt cheese buried underneath. The Yams were over cooked and mushy with burnt clumps. 3.The rice made from a box and salty and gummy. Tasted like Zataran Rice. The eggplant was maybe almost the best, it also was salty.
Being that, I myself is a Chef and Baker. I wanted to support a Black owned business.
Using MSG to enhance the flavor is unexcceptable.
After calling multiple times, and finally getting a returned call was even worse.
After speaking with Her as she is the owner, She tried to say my age was a factor. No, it was clearly The Cooking. My guest on the First visit, her order was wrong and the Philly cheese steak rolls were extremely salty.
Even with that, I understand you can have a off day. As she was on speaker and my guest heard the conversation. She offered me to come and get the original fried lemon pepper mushroom wings.
I told her, no thank you. As per the website, Refunds are Supposed to be credited back to my card. As she originally said. She continues to say it was my age and other excuses, She rudely hung the phone up in my face.
She was definitely in the Wrong...
Read moreI had to update my review. This time decided to eat in with friends and get more than just wraps. We were the only people there. People were very friendly, but our cooked food took over an hour at 1pm on a Saturday. Smoothies were fast. Sides were expensive ($6 to add a 1/2 cup of kale to an already $15 sandwich, etc.) There is also a smell in this place that coupled with it being really hot (sweating in t shirts in winter) stuck to all of my clothes. I assume they have really bad ventilation and it's a smell sort of like moisture, old meat, and cigarettes that was probably there from whoever had the place before them. Bathroom was also pretty dirty.
It's a shame, I think this is place could be better with better organization, hiring a second cook, and temperature/ventilation/etc. in the future I'll only be getting take out and will stick to entrees only as it's too uncomfortable to wait that long for food and have to wash my clothes right after. If you wanna eat in, make sure you don't have plans for hours as I imagine it's even slower at busier hours.
Original review: Friend and I grabbed food here for the first time today. I'm not even finished yet while writing this. It's so effing good. Big portions for the money and really tasty vegan comfort food. Bbq chkn is to die for....
