Updated review August 2023

While I still enjoy Dave and Andy’s ice creams and sorbets, their management team and workers have become inconsistent and rude turning what should be a fun experience grabbing ice cream into a frustrating experience. If this was an isolated incident, you could brush it off as a bad day, but having issues the last three out of four trips, you cannot write this off as a bad day for one person. Issues include being told that they have specific flavors, you saying great you will be in in 8 mins, then saying great and then they sell out and you had a wasted trip; going from being able to sample any flavor your want to bring limited to 1 or 2 depending on who is working - there is no sign that says they have changed their policy, and employees being rude when you ask basic questions!

Given all the issue, it’s not worth the drive to grab ice cream here. I’ll be going to Treat on Walnut street where you can sample any and all flavors and interact with the husband and wife couple who runs it who always have a smile on their faces! A much better experience all around.

Original 5 star review -

Hands down my favorite place for ice cream in Pittsburgh! Better than Millie’s and others. Frozen yogurt, sorbets, and sugar free options make it inclusive outing for those with dietary restrictions/preferences.

However their waffle cones - yummmmmmmm

Their single scoop is like a double and you guessed it their double is like a triple. Their hand packed pints and quarts are some of the best value in town.

Unique rotating flavors alongside tried and true staples make it so there is always something you will enjoy.

Bonus - they now take credit cards!

Highly recommend grabbing a scoop or two and walking around Schenley plaza (if it lasts...

on our midwest road trip, we have been trying the "best ice cream" in each city. pittsburgh has a lot but dave & andy's seemed to be a top choice.

small interior. past reviews said only 1 sample but i asked for 2. service was okay.

personally i did not think the ice cream flavor selection and taste was anything special.

pricing: double for $5.14 (fairly average)

flavor variety: there is an okay amount of flavors to choose from on their menu, from ice cream to yogurts to sundaes. they accommodate dietary restrictions.

flavor uniqueness: i don't think dave & andy's had many unique flavors. many were pretty traditional that you can buy in a grocery store. when paying for ice cream at a shop, i gravitate toward unique flavor combinations and homemade flavors (ex: jeni's and salt & straw), so i was disappointed in this category.

// flavors //

oatmeal raisin cookie: i ended up getting this flavor because it was the better out of the ones i tried. it tasted as expected, and pretty sweet. didn't really have the creaminess and bigger chunks of cookies that i was looking for.

chocolate raspberry: this one was also okay. it had chocolate and subtle raspberry, but was more on the milk chocolate side and was missing flavor depth to me. could have been better if it was darker or bittersweet chocolate with a stronger raspberry flavor.

overall, flavors and ice cream were not memorable to me so i would...

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Dave & Andy’s Ice Cream!! This iconic ice cream parlor has been scooping joy in Oakland since 1983 with over 200+ flavors made fresh in-house—and yes, they hand-roll those heavenly waffle cones right on site! After a brief closure last year, they’re back and just as nostalgic as ever. The moment you walk in, you’re hit with the delicious smell of fresh waffle cones being made. Each week, they feature 24 rotating flavors—core classics plus seasonal specials—so there’s always something new to try. Grab a cone, cup, sundae, or milkshake—or take home a pint or two! Indoor and outdoor seating lets you soak in the old-school charm, with their classic benches adding to the vibe. I had a birthday cake ice cream in a fresh handmade waffle cone and it totally hit the spot. Also tried a mint chocolate chip milkshake topped with whipped cream and a cherry —pure nostalgia! And for the ultimate sweet treat, don’t miss their dirt dessert cup: cookies & cream with chocolate pudding, Oreo crumbles, and gummy worms. A fan-favorite, especially with the younger crowd! Whether it’s your first visit or your hundredth, Dave & Andy’s is the kind of place that always feels...
