Delanie's Coffee Shadyside — Restaurant in Pittsburgh

I have been to Delanie's twice so far and loved the experiences. I super appreciate how the owner, Lavinia, is so knowledgeable about coffee. From bean to mug, there is a science to making good coffee drinks. Delanie's is exceptional in their attention to the details and delivering quality coffee. Special shout-outs to their popcorn latte and blood orange tonic espresso - both fantastic! I like the cafe's design, seating options, pretty little flowers on the tables, nice and walkable location, high standard of cleanliness, and sizable bathroom large enough for wheelchair access. I also love how they have a self-serve water tap and mugs/glasses if you want to stay in. There's even a jar of dog treats! I ordered a bacon mushroom sandwich. Maybe because at the time there place was almost full, the barista didn’t ask me if I want to have it for here or to go. After heating the sandwich, she handed me the bag and realized I managed to find a sitting spot and asked me if I wanted a plate. I said no. But when I opened the bag, I saw that my sandwich was pretty much deconstructed. Cheese was flowing all over the foil and half of the mushroom bacons were not kept between the bread slices. Comfort food turned to a messy tasteless jumbo. This is something so basic and I really expect people to handle it properly 😅 other than that, they have decent ambience and good coffee. I come here often and I usually love this place but I came with my mom, who has a dairy allergy, and it was a mess.

Barista was unfriendly and we didn’t feel like the allergy was taken seriously. She seemed inconvenienced by our questions and when we asked if the vanilla flavor contained dairy she repeatedly said she “would be surprised” instead of checking, which isn’t a safe answer for a severe dairy allergy. She rang in a drip coffee instead of the americano we ordered and then the other barista at the bar was dismissive and didn’t offer to fix this because we paid for the drip coffee we didn’t even order.
