Came for their famous vegan seitan wings… was blown away by this entire place!!! Such FUN decor & vibe inside! Loved to see they had vegan choices on the menu from their large menu of Mexican meals! Wouldn’t really expect this place to be vegan friendly but it WAS! What we got: Seitan wings- we came here because we heard so much hype for their vegan seitan wings and WOW! So GOOD! Perfectly crispy, seasoned with their spicy sauce! Seriously, perfection! Tofu tacos- the tofu was seasoned and crispy! Loved that it was a nice amount of tofu in the soft taco. They offer vegan cheese/vegan sour cream to be subbed in which I did making it a fully vegan taco! Super fresh. Tasty. It was perfect. I normally have issues with places not preparing tofu good but Mad Mex did it right! The gauc- I’m a guacamole snob. I just love some good gauc & Mad Mex has some of the BEST gauc I’ve ever had. It was so fresh & out of this world. We got the chips & gauc appetizer & it was a nice sharing size for the table. My partner got the chicken burrito & loved it. Also pointed out the freshness & flavor. Really great place! Loved the food presentation as well. Everything just LOOKED (and tasted) amazing. Mad Mex has fun decor, vibes, large dining area for big crowds & offers high quality Mexican food (along with decent vegan finds!) hands down some of the best food during our Pittsburgh vacation!

I decided to step a little outside of my comfort zone and try something different that I would not normally try, so I ordered a bowl of chick pea chili. Normally I would stick with turkey chili, but I said to myself "self, you need to try something else". What a great decision! It was delicous! Cooked in a tomatillo base with onion and dalloped with sour cream and cheese, this little bowl is packed with major flavor and protein without the meat! It's so good that it does not need any additives; however, since I am the kind of gal that loves to bring the heat, I added about 2 TBS of the habañero chili hot sauce which added a nice kick! I loved this chili so much that I had it for the second time this week. This bowl of flavor was so filling that after finishing it, I was only able to eat 1 taco. As pictured, the "Nacho Momma's Soft Taco Platter with Chicken, beans and rice was also a tasty bite. Of course I added some heat to my taco, but again it was so robust with flavor, that no additional dressings were needed. I highly recommend these two dishes.

I actually really liked this place. It’s located in a prominent part of the town with a lot of other restaurant and businesses, so this area is quite happening over the weekends. The restaurant itself is huge, and they have a perfect mix of indoor outdoor seating. It was quite busy when we visited. I wouldn’t call the food authentic Mexican, but it was still very tasty. We got the birria quesadilla and it was a flavour bomb. So good. We also got the nachos with chicken and again. It was very tasty. The chicken wings were just so so. I tried couple of their margaritas, and all of them were very, very good. My personal favourite is the mango. One which taste just like mango juice which I used to drink as a child. Also, the habanero Margarita is the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. The service was excellent and our server was so nice welcoming. It’s a great spot to hang out with friends.

Lunch time. Waiter has 2 tables other than ours. Restaurant is not visibly busy. My partner ordered a glass of water with his tea because he was rather thirsty and didn't want to have waiter running back and forth for refills. I ordered a tea and chips and salsa as our appetizer. Waiter brought out 2 teas 5 minutes later. No water. No chips. No salsa. We order our entrees (two chimis). 30 seconds later he's back to see if we need refills on tea. We hadn't taken two sips. This is the last time we see the waiter until the check. 20 minutes later the hostess brings out our entrees, we inform her we ordered chips and salsa, implying that we thought we should have had them before the entrees. She (the hostess) brings them right out. We are focused on the entrees and leave the chips to snack on afterwards. We finish our teas halfway through the entrees. No sight of waiter for refills. The food is spicy but we manage to finish entrees without a beverage. The chips and salsa barely get touched, because it is to spicy to handle without having something to drink. We stack our entrees plates on top of one another and sit our empty tea glasses on the edge of the table, hoping someone may notice that we need refills. No one does. We continue to sit there for another 20-25 minutes before the waiter finally comes out and asks if we are ready for the check. Doesn't offer refills. Brings check, collects payment, and makes slight reference to the fact that our chips and salsa to a while to get to us. Needless to say, we...

I recently decided to visit this location for my 33rd birthday, which I hadn’t been to in quite some time. Since I was dining alone, I figured it wouldn’t be too difficult for one server to manage. I gave the server a birthday code to get a birthday burrito and also placed a to-go order. Everything seemed fine initially, with the server taking the birthday code and preparing my order. However, things started going downhill as the restaurant got busier.

I understood that it was getting busy, so I tried not to bother the server too much. After asking for the check, they brought it promptly, but it took over 20 minutes for my to-go orders to arrive. During that time, the server didn’t even check back with me about the to-go orders, and I eventually had to flag them down. To make matters worse, I was charged for the burrito despite having provided the birthday code.

When I brought this up to the staff, I was told there was nothing they could do, which was frustrating. They eventually gave me another birthday burrito code, but that didn’t make up for the money I had already spent. On top of that, my order was burnt. The customer service at this location is a joke. It’s one of the busier locations, but the staff is inattentive and inconsiderate. If you’re planning to visit a Pittsburgh Mad Mex, I recommend going to the one in Robinson or another location—definitely...
