Bought a Groupon to try this restaurant because I saw they had a variety of vegetarian food options. We went on a Wednesday night and there were a few bar tables available but the place already had about 6 people there at 5:30pm, always a good sign. We seated ourselves and immediately the bartender came over to offer water and ask us about drinks. My husband asked if they had any specials and she told him about it. He ordered the special and I ordered an amazing (and strong) cider from their extensive beer list with local and upscale beer selections. Not just a Miller lite and IC Light side street bar!! Hallelujah! We ordered the seitan cheesesteaks with french fries. All hoagies are on Cellones buns which I love. Food came out quickly and was hot! Only side bar is that it came with pickle chips, we told the food runner who immediately apologized and said he would fix it and enjoy the pickle chips. I did enjoy them and he came back with fresh hand cut piping hot basket of fries for us to enjoy before we had even finished our hoagies (which were big). The bartender was attentive the whole time and super nice. Paid with the Groupon with no issues and left knowing we will be coming back to enjoy that fantastic homemade seitan and the great wait staff!! Did I mention the place is super clean and has a great Rugby theme!?!?...
Read moreRuggers is everything you want in a casual dining experience. The food is always good and reasonably priced. The menu options are varied and they keep it fresh with specials.
The beer selection is great, but PBR tallboys are also $3/piece if it's that type of night. Liquor is also reasonably priced with plenty of specials to pick from.
What really sets Ruggers apart is the people. The staff is fantastic. The culture and energy is very open and neighborly, which is increasingly rare, unfortunately. Even during such difficult times as the COVID-19 pandemic, the bartenders and waiters have been wonderful and strict with adhering to regulations. I can't rave enough...
Read moreWhat a brilliant place. It's an old school Pittsburgh bar with great (and cheap) food and drinks. Don't be put off if you aren't a sports bar fan. It's not an over the top 50 big screen TV place. It's low key sports. You can watch some European Rugby or Penguins Hockey and and strike up a conversation with someone that probably knows more about it than you. Or you can skip the sports and banter with friends. And while am not a vegetarian or vegan, would emphasize to those who are that half the menu are those things. And if you aren't, can recommend the Buffalo Chicken and Signature Half Pound Burger (done Pittsburgh rare...), both with pickel chips. Go...
