Biggest issue was the waiting… 30 minutes for cocktails, 1 hour+ for food. I was genuinely excited to give this location a try, but I left pretty bummed.

This was a weeknight visit, 3 total floors of seating. First floor was closed, second floor, and rooftop were open. We watched as the same plates of sushi rolls sat on the sushi bar for around 20+ minutes while the manager sat just in front of them on her laptop. When the server returned after dropping off the plates, the manager proceeded to reprimand the server in the middle of the dining room, citing slow and inaccurate orders etc etc….

Not only is that kind of behavior inappropriate… it demonstrated how disconnected the management was from the status of the dining room. Not once did anyone check in on us or offer some kind of remedy for the long wait. I was curious if one floor was busier than the other so I went for a walk… counted a total of 16 people across both floors… which made me further question the long wait times. 16 people… the majority of the seats were EMPTY. I’d hate to see a Friday/Saturday night. Overall it seemed like a lack of urgency from the staff. We were being informed that the kitchen was closing and that we could make final requests now… meanwhile we had not yet had a single item delivered… so how would we know if we wanted to order more food… when we had yet to consume any food haha…

The food itself tasty, prices reasonable, servers kind… my qualm is with the logistical barriers- which is likely growing pains of a new restaurant.

But managers! Please help your staff run food. Coach them privately! Stop by tables and see if they are ok. Offer remedies. Create the opportunity for guests to leave happy! Reading through the recent experiences it seems this is a major pain point, and a common...

I was so excited to go check out Sushi i as I was thrilled about Pittsburgh gaining another AYCE Sushi restaurant that offered other choices as well as sushi. I was also very excited to check out the rooftop bar on a nice, sunny 70 degree day. Upon arriving at sushi i, we inquired about the AYCE sushi and were instantly disappointed when the host told us that they don't offer that anymore (I was extremely surprised since they have been open for less than a month and there is no indication of this on their website). I still wanted to check out the rooftop bar, so we took the 3 flights to get upstairs and came to a small patio, the chairs were disorganized and we had to move things around to get to a table. There was no bar open on the rooftop and the music was quite loud for being the middle of the day and having only a few patrons. Though it was 70 degrees and sunny, the surrounding buildings blocked the light, which made it quite chilly, and there wasn't much to look at. The waitress was attentive, which was great. The martini I ordered took a little longer than expected to receive. We ordered a lunch sushi combination and two special rolls to share (the tobiko and the green turtle roll). The miso soup was very lack luster and only had a couple of pieces of very small tofu and one or two slicers of scallions and seaweed. The sushi arrived in a timely manner and they were large rolls, but the sushi was not rolled tightly and tended to fall apart. The most disappointing aspect of the sushi was that two large fish scales were found, which is not very appetizing at all and the fish was slightly chewy and did not taste very fresh. Overall, this is not somewhere I'd visit again when there are an abundance of incredible Asian restaurants in Pittsburgh and the...

I came in with two friends on Sunday. We had heard about this place from the buzz about the all you can eat sushi. We did get a heads up before that the all you can eat sushi was a miscommunicated promotion. We still wanted to try the place regardless. While the food was good I do think this place wasn't prepared to open and need a little bit of more time in the oven. I came in and was told we had a 30 min wait. I assumed the place was just busy... After 30 mins we were taken to a table and the whole room was empty. I assume they were just understaffed. Once we sat down service was ok. The waiter could have checked with us more than he did. I was also never asked for a refill on my drink. That is usually a red flag.

In conclusion my experience wasn't horrible but I wouldn't recommend this place as it currently is. Maybe in a year after the growing pains have went away if they are still here in a year. I don't wish bad tidings on any place but most of the buzz I hear now is about the all you can eat sushi and how my friends are mad the place false advertised.

With some time I think this place could be great but right now...

I had an incredible dining experience at Sushi I and I can confidently say it’s one of the best sushi spots I’ve ever visited in Pittsburgh. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm, inviting, and elegantly minimalist—perfect for a relaxed meal or a special occasion. The sushi was nothing short of exceptional. Every piece was beautifully presented, incredibly fresh, and expertly crafted. The tuna sashimi melted in my mouth, and the chef’s special rolls struck the perfect balance of flavor, texture, and creativity. I especially recommend the SUSHI I ROLL, an unforgettable blend of ingredients that worked in perfect harmony. The service was equally impressive. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and made thoughtful recommendations based on our preferences. You can tell the staff truly cares about the customer experience and takes pride in what they do. Whether you’re a sushi connoisseur or just exploring Japanese cuisine, SUSHI I is an absolute must-visit in downtown Pittsburgh. I’ll definitely be coming back—and bringing friends with me next time!

Escape the ordinary and dive into an unforgettable dining experience at Sushi I in downtown Pittsburgh! From the moment you step onto their rooftop oasis, you’re transported to a tropical paradise — the perfect setting for a night of exceptional food and atmosphere. Sushi I seamlessly blends traditional Japanese flavors with contemporary Asian influences, creating dishes that are as beautiful as they are delicious. Every item I tried — from the perfectly seasoned edamame and crispy crab Rangoon to the sweet potato roll, tuna roll, and their OMG roll — was outstanding. The chicken hibachi was flavorful and tender, and you could tell everything was made with care and premium ingredients. What truly sets this place apart is the attention to detail: house-made sauces, fresh seafood, and expertly cooked rice show just how committed they are to culinary excellence. Whether you're a sushi enthusiast or just looking for a memorable meal in a unique setting, Sushi I is absolutely worth the visit.
