Hello again,
Today, we talk about the commoner and the far above common food.
Service: everyone was very friendly and absolutely amazing individuals, we had a group of three dressed in varied levels of common attire, we had no one sneer or give us odd looks, and were treated perfectly by all staff. We thank the staff for the professionalism of their employees and hope that all staff are treated well. 10/10
Atmoshere: You first enter through the connected hotel. Once inside, you will see stairs to your left about 3 short rows leading down into a mellow feeling area, generally calm music playing only loud enough to ease you, not to distract from a conversation, dim lighting, and bar and kitchen lit up so you know where they sre. The bar is well stocked, and the kitchen has open viewing to watch the chefs as they work (as far as i could tell from my vantage point, we chose a booth closer to the stairs). The tables are preset with real candle lights and silverware, and the menues are one page short menus on a menu board. Very clean and no intense smells off putting a meal (at least in relation to the smells from the city, we could have been nose blind but i dont believe so) 10/10
appatizers: apon looking at the menu, we all got the potato appitizer, and we were not disappointed. These things are to die for. When delivered, we saw a small size pan of what appeared to be a random assortment of potato sizes and shapes, and they had a crispy appearance. We had skepticism as the price seemed not to warrent what kur eyes saw, but when the madem who delivered the plate said "warning: they are addicting," we got more curious, each taking a piece of potato via fork and realizing there was a pool of what appears to be white cheese sauce in the bottom. The fork glided into a perfectly cooked center, and the potato stayed in one piece, not splitting at all. That first bite will, in fact, get you addicted and my description will not be adequate, but i will try to get the description down.
The potato had a crisp exterior light and flaky with a smooth and moist potato center. The potato was clearly coated in some spices. However, they were so light that i could not identify but sonstrong that the flavor was eye-opening, then came the sauce in the base, it was not quite cheese it was a light cream sause that had cheese similarities and had its own light spice that was almost sweet, there were green spices inside it however, they were so finely chopped i cant identify them. All i can say is that the lady who gave them to us was accurate. These are addictive and we will be coming back for more.

The Commoner is a must-visit destination for any foodie looking for exceptional cuisine and outstanding service in a truly unique setting. From the moment you step into the restaurant, you're transported to a world of rustic elegance and contemporary charm.
One standout dish that I tried at The Commoner was the chicken and waffles, which was simply amazing. The dish was expertly crafted with perfectly crispy chicken and fluffy waffles that were a true delight to the senses. The dish was elevated with a drizzle of sweet and savory sauce, making for a truly unforgettable culinary experience.
In addition to the chicken and waffles, I also had the pleasure of trying the seasonal salad, which was a fresh and healthy take on a classic dish. The salad was perfectly balanced and paired beautifully with the freshly baked bread.
The service at The Commoner is also exceptional, with friendly and knowledgeable staff that are passionate about the food they serve. The warm and welcoming atmosphere makes for a truly enjoyable dining experience that will leave you feeling both satisfied and inspired.
But what truly sets The Commoner apart is the building itself, which is a true masterpiece of industrial design and contemporary style. The space is beautifully designed with rustic elements like exposed brick and wood beams, as well as modern touches like sleek lighting and contemporary art.
Overall, The Commoner is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for exceptional cuisine, outstanding service, and a truly unique dining experience. The restaurant's commitment to quality ingredients, expert preparation, and outstanding hospitality make it a true standout in the Pittsburgh dining scene. Arriving downtown around 9:30, there weren't many options for dinner in walking distance outside of hotel restaurants. I decided to go with The Commoner at Hotel Monaco. It's got its own entrance on the corner, but you have to walk the whole way through the place to reach the hostess, which is a little awkward. Other than that, I loved the design.
I was seated at a stool across from the kitchen area where I was given a carafe of water and a menu. Based on reviews, I knew I needed the sticky toffee pudding. I asked my waiter if I could order that to eat in and a lamb burger to go. My pudding came out fairly quickly and did not disappoint. The best part was the caramelization around the edges--especially the bits that had a crunch to them. I found the $10 price tag reasonable for its size and quality when not even a handful of entrees come in at under $20.
I had to wait a bit for my burger to arrive, but that was fine as the man working the area of the kitchen across from me was great for conversation. I have really learned to appreciate a restaurant that doesn't make you feel uncomfortable/judged for solo dining.
By the time I got settled in to my own hotel, my food was just warm, so I can't be the best judge. The burger was cooked well (medium) and was plenty juicy. My one complaint would be that the greens used had stringy stems. As they weren't the easiest to bite cleanly through, the full leaf often came out with the bite. Fries were good.
Overall I would return if I needed to dine downtown...
