This place is set up to be a fun time a great hangout, but it's got a few short comings. I've visited about 6 or so times and every time I do visit they have run out of a significant amount of beers and food items on the menu. For example on my latest visit my BF tried to order a beer 3 times. Each time he ordered the waiter came back 5 minutes later saying that they were out of that beer. Three times! And they didn't offer any sort of discount or free beer for the total run around and let down. Why didn't they communicate up front what was out of stock? The waiter was discovering a dead end with every order - seems like poor behind the scenes communication.
The original reason we were visiting my first trip was for the summer trend of Frozé & Frosecco. We arrived around 6pm on a Friday in August and they didn't have their feature promo ready yet. What?! That's prime time! We waited an hour before being served half frozen versions of the cocktails. They also weren't served with the festive flower decorations that were pictured across their promotions :( the fun was sucked out of our fun summer friday happy hour.
The place does have great location, fun rooftop, fun selection of beer (if you can pick one they actually have) and does serve the most delicious German pretzel. It's more of a fluffy, buttery croissant - than a pretzel. And thats what makes it delicious. I will return - for...
Read moreI am somewhere between 3 and 4 stars on Biergarten. The atmosphere is cool, being one of few rooftop bars in Pittsburgh, but for their name their selection of beer sucks. Me and my boyfriend decided to stop by one evening and the place was pretty packed, which was a good sign. We walked up to the bar (we were the only ones at the bar at the time) and it took us forever to get a beer. I wouldn't usually complain about this but every time I looked over at the bar once we had sat down, everyone seemed to be having the same incredibly slow service. They only had 4 or 5 on tap which I thought was weird seeing as that is kind of what their known for. Once we finally got our beers we sat down, we had a wonderful evening. They have games set up outside and the views are neat. (This rooftop is surrounded by buildings so no river view or stadium view, but it is still nice to be outside) If you are looking for a place to stop in for a quick beer this may not be the place for you, but if you want to sit back and relax outside this is a great...
Read moreMet friends there for drinks and admit the rooftop atmosphere and drinks were the highlights . Definitely overpriced $14 Froze, but it was good.
What was AWFUL was the $14 “soft” pretzel that we couldn’t cut through, only to give the cheese/pickle plate a chance, and at $22 it was an even bigger disappointment, which I didn’t think was possible. 3 miniature sweet pickles, a few tiny pieces of cauliflower that were “pickled” but tasted like dirt, a hard boiled egg, and a few small chunks of hard cheese. Small as in the diameter of a golf ball is larger than this cheese was.
I paid $240 for our drinks and garbage food, and at that price have no plan on going back. Lots of rooftop bars in Pittsburgh with better food and drinks just as delicious that cost less.
I hope they fix this, since it seems to be a common theme in the reviews....
