Let me tell you a story 🤬🤬 we went to Metro Diner for dinner this evening. The first time my chicken came out, it was over cooked, dry and chewy. The manager offered to have the cook remake it. While the rest of my family ate their dinner, I sat and waited and waited and waited for fresh chicken. The manager decided that since I had waited so long by this time that he would be oh so generous 🙄🙄 to take my meal off of our bill. Finally, after asking us to pay beforehand, my chicken came out. I cut into it and it is raw 🤬🤦🏼♀️ then as the waitress, who I feel really bad for you could tell she was having a rough night, asked how it was I proceeded to show her. At that time she tells me she's about to have a mental breakdown so I tell her to go get me the manager and I will just have him deal with this. He has the nerve to look at me and tell me that he's already taken my meal off and ask me what else I would like for him to do. I told him that at this point in time I feel that my family should be getting their meal for free because we have all been inconvenienced for me having to wait for my meal to be cooked twice and it to be incorrect still. We came to eat dinner as a family and could not do that this evening. He wants to get loud and argue with me about how he gave me mine for free, and everyone else had already eaten their meal so he was not accommodating them . At this time I proceed to go take a picture of my raw food. This man slams his hand down on top of my food on my table to try to avoid me taking a picture. When I pick it up from underneath his hand to try to move it he then tries to pull it out of my hands to the point that I had slight red marks and scratches on my arm and he elbowed me in the back of the head. 🤬 I take my picture, gather my children who unfortunately had to see this event and I proceed to go to my truck. Before it escalated to anything more than what it already had!! Unfortunately I was not able to get a picture of the manager. But the old bald white man that was working this evening should absolutely not be a manager, or even work with people. This is one place that will never ever see another penny from me...

I arrived at Metro Diner in Plainfield on a Friday at 5 p.m., expecting it to be busy. Fortunately, I seemed to have beaten the rush—the dining area was only about half full, so there was no wait. The staff was friendly, and the restaurant appeared clean, which was a great first impression.
Since it was Friday, I noticed they offered fish and chips, a classic staple. However, I was immediately disappointed to see they use Heinz malt vinegar, which is incredibly weak—almost like water—compared to authentic malt vinegar. A small detail, but one that makes a big difference for those who enjoy fish and chips properly.
The hostess was welcoming, and I appreciated being seated in a booth, as requested. My waitress was also kind and attentive. Wanting to give the restaurant a fair chance despite a mediocre experience three years ago, I ordered the Iron City Meatloaf Plate with mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans—a comforting classic.
Unfortunately, my hopes for a 4.7-star meal (matching their rating) weren’t quite met. The water tasted unpleasant, similar to the kind of bad tap water you might find in a large city, which affected my perception of any other drinks they serve, like lemonade or tea.
As for the meal:
Green beans were flavorful and enjoyable.
Mashed potatoes were decent, but the gravy had a bitter taste, bringing down the overall dish.
The meatloaf was dry, with the gravy acting as a necessary cover-up rather than a flavorful addition. Even with the gravy, it wasn’t anything more than average.
Overall, while the service, cleanliness, and seating experience were all positives, the food itself didn’t live up to expectations. I’d give the food a 3-star rating at best. Given my past experience and this visit, I’ll likely wait another three years before trying Metro Diner in...
Read moreWe haven't been to Metro Diner in over a year and decided to go for breakfast this morning and am so glad we did. Upon entering the doors, the manager held the door for us, told us how beautiful our family was and got us seated right away.
When we got sat, Kellie greeted us right away and got our drinks promptly (with 4 kids that was very helpful). She gave us the time we needed to look at the menu without being pushy and came back as she saw we were ready to take our order. We didn't wait long at all for our food either, maybe 15 minutes. With as packed as the restaurant was, that was very impressive. You could tell they were fully staffed and prepared for the morning/afternoon rush. Kellie even came back and said they noticed the Dr. Pepper had run out and asked my husband if his tasted ok and got him another drink right away.
None of the staff looked unhappy, or like they didn't want to be there. They genuinely looked as if they enjoyed what they were doing. The staff was all wearing a smile as we passed by. We had about 7 staff members wish us a good day and to come back on our way out.
Whomever is in charge is definitely doing something right with the training in place and has carefully chosen the employees in their hiring process to be the right fit for the restaurants expectation. This was one of the best restaurant experiences we've had in awhile and we will most definitely be back.
Kudos to Metro! Great job today. P.s. The bacon Avocado bowl and chicken and waffles...
