Rude customer service and seafood robbery to say the very least. (Warning: long explanation below)
I discovered Capt'n Dave this crawfish season and had reasonable experiences the 3 or 4 times I ordered crawfish from here, even though it's a bit on the pricey side than what I'm use to, being from the gulf. I understand the transportation cost it takes to get to Plano, so I was willing to pay the premium. However, my last experience was completely different and the last time I will ever purchase anything from here.
The wife wanted a last boil of the season, so I called Dave, and per the usual he quoted me a per pound price for half a sack for pick-up on Saturday. I reserved this by providing my credit card information. I purchased all my ingredients and was ready for a Saturday afternoon boil. However, the night before, I received a text message at 11pm with news that my order would not be fulfilled due to farmers not providing the crawfish as promised. It happens. I completely understood and called them back the next day to carry over my crawfish reservation to Sunday.
Excited as I didn't received a cancellation message Sunday morning, I went to Capt'n Dave to pick up my crawfish. It definitely caught me by surprise when Dave charged me a quarter more per pound that he quoted over the phone. When I questioned the price vs. what he had quoted me over the phone, he rudely gave me an ultimatum of "if you don't want it, I can put it back". WHAT? What kind of response and customer service is this? If I wasn't trying to please the wife, I would have walked out of there and never looked back. It would already be unacceptable receiving this tone and service from any employee, but this was from DAVE, THE OWNER.
I wouldn't have been able to get crawfish anywhere else on such short notice. So reluctantly, I paid the inflated price, then mentioned that what they were doing was dishonest and ridiculous. I was met with a response of "don't bother coming back then". How is this place still in business with this kind of customer service? I sure as hell will not be back.
On another note, I've been purchasing crawfish for years from multiple vendors, and have always known a sack to be 30-35 pounds and half a sack to be 15-17 pounds. I was charged 24 pounds as half a sack, or should I say BOX. Not sure what's going on here.
These dishonest tactics makes me question what else this establishment could be doing to deceive honest paying customers. ...
Read moreI have always loved this place Dave and his Brother in law Rocky are the greatest and the employees are fun and they remember you. Today i went to pick up some seafood and on the door there was a sign handwritten that said " Bathroom for employees only" i thought this was funny because this to me is not the type of business you would think had a public restroom. Its a seafood counter just like The Plano meat store where you buy what you need and leave. It struck me funny that people would request a bathroom enough that Dave needed a sign. Being a place that i go often and people know me by name and always a funny good time, I walked in and joking said to the woman by the counter, Can I use the bathroom and in the same breath said to the same woman behind the counter, who would come in here and ask for a bathroom? she was smiling and we had a small laugh. From the back i heard someone yelling at me and i thought she was playing along with the joke and i laughed, then she said Laugh all you want but its not funny? what i thought? Then she yelled from the back I hate men like you? again i thought she was kidding so i said, i am not a man but an ugly woman. Shen then replied then i hate ugly women like you!. I turned to the other woman at the counter who is very nice and said is she upset about something? she stated that she was having a bad day. I told he that that was not a way to respond and you could see that she was embarrassed. All the while the the angry woman (Daphne) was still yelling some stuff at me but i could hear what she was saying. I told the nice lady that that was a rude way to treat a good customer and that i am sure Rocky and Dave would not appreciate this type of behavior. First of all I was never speaking to Daphne and she was just angry and rude. I did call back and Daphne answered the phone and told me that I was too aggressive and she does not stand for that?? Get a sense of humor as Captain Daves has always had one and a great people to work with. I spoke with Rocky and explained everything and since Rocky and I always joke around and he knows me as the U-12 guy, he sounded sad and apologized. Rocky is a helpful and happy guy and I enjoy buying from him. I would say if you encounter Daphne, don't smile or try and be fun and happy or she will go off on you!. Make sure you ask for someone else of she will ruin a great experience and a great seafood store with lots of other...
Read moreMy wife, our son, and I came in to check out some snow crab legs and some fresh fish. I asked the lady at the front if they carry crab legs because none were in the visible freezers. She said yes they have them in the back and i then requested to took a look at them and she kinda just starred at me with disgust. She then return 2-3 mins later and had a box of snow crab legs. She took them out for me to take a look and they were very small. I have seen bigger crab legs at Kroger but I didn’t tell her that. I then said “ thank you but those are a little small from what I’m looking for.” She then looks at me in disgust and says “ how big are you looking for?” I then said “ A little bit bigger “ she says “ which part the legs or the clusters” I said “both” she looks at me in disgust for 10-15 seconds. She then asks again “ how big do you want them” I then said “a bit bigger those look pretty small” especially for the $17 per pound. She asks me again “how big do you want them?” I replied “a bit bigger but I think I’m interested in the fresh grouper you have”. look of disgust came across her face again. She then asks me again “ how big are looking for because these are pretty big”. My wife answers and says “ I’m from the Pacific Northwest and we are looking for much bigger than that” she then responded ignorantly and said “there’s a big difference from up there to here” I then replied with “ I’m from Florida and I’m very familiar with snow crab leg clusters.” She then said her captain is from Florida. I then said “awesome then he should know these are kinda small”. After all this I waited to be helped with the grouper and they never came. So me and my family left and found a different place that treats humans better. Shop around because these guys think no one else knows seafood and they charge top dollar.
